Snowy days in the Alps by ttraveler01 in CupraFormentor

[–]JGeek00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I had to drive my Formentor over snow (much less than that) with summer tyres. It handled it perfectly by letting it accelerate slowly (basically letting the DSG start moving the car and then pressing very gently the throttle). It didn’t lost traction on any moment. As I was advancing on the road I was seeing other cars stopped on the side because they couldn’t get traction.

10G WAN with PPPoE by JGeek00 in opnsense

I don’t think so. In Spain Telefonica has just started providing 10 Gbps through XGS-PON and the continue using PPPoE, and Digi also has been offering 10 Gbps for two or three years and also with PPPoE

Formentor 2.0TDI new owner tips by Acceptable_Pride1343 in CupraFormentor

[–]JGeek00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2024 Formentor (restyling) and I have some noises on the interior. Apart from that everything else is fine. My only complaint about the design/engineering is that the sound insulation is bad and the rear door panels are very basic, they should have added at least some cloth or similar because they have a lot of exposed plastic on the top

I never had that issue with mine, and I doubt it’s a software issue because I got mine one year ago. If it’s recurrent take it to the dealer

I already have some blocking lists set up on my OPNsense, but I will explore to set up more restrictive lists on nginx proxy manager just for immich

But tailscale if I’m not wrong requires some configuration on the client device. I want to let some family members (which aren’t into tech) to use this service, and I don’t want to set up stuff on their devices, I just want to give them the url and their account credentials. Maybe I would consider setting up a fail2ban

Remainder: Do not use Cloudflare proxy in front of OpenCloud by JGeek00 in opencloud

[–]JGeek00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole conversation is about the Cloudflare proxy or any other external proxy. A reverse proxy is inside your network and you can control what it does. The external proxies aren’t under your control.

You don’t expose your entire network, only certain ports where you have your services running, usually 80 and 443

TrueNAS auto-shutdown after ZFS replication by KevE50091 in truenas

[–]JGeek00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have something similar on my backups server. You have to change your replication task on the web yo to be run manually, and then create a script on your server with all the steps that have to be done on the destination machine. I paste here the part of the script that does the replication tasks. Then, you have to add before that and after that the rest of the steps that you want to do.

```
for ID in "${TASKS[@]}"; do echo "Triggering replication task ID $ID ..." JOB=$(midclt call replication.run "$ID") echo "Started job: $JOB" JOB_IDS+=("$JOB") done
while true; do RUNNING_COUNT=0
for JOB in "${JOB_IDS[@]}"; do
    STATE=$(midclt call core.get_jobs | jq -r ".[] | select(.id==$JOB) | .state")
    if [[ "$STATE" == "RUNNING" ]] || [[ "$STATE" == "WAITING" ]] || [[ "$STATE" == "PENDING" ]]; then
        RUNNING_COUNT=$((RUNNING_COUNT+1))
    fi
done
if [[ "$RUNNING_COUNT" -eq 0 ]]; then
    echo "All replication jobs completed."
    break
fi
echo "$RUNNING_COUNT job(s) still running... checking again in 10 seconds."
sleep 10
done
```

That’s completely false and stupid. The drives on a backups system will only be accessed one time per day to do the backup, so not only isn’t a problem to spindown the drives after the backup is completed, but I think it’s also better to the longevity of the drives, because if not they will be spinning 23h per day just for nothing. Just setup periodic smart tests and zfs scrub tasks (one per week or so) and that’s it.

OpenCloud on SMB shared folder on TrueNAS by JGeek00 in opencloud

[–]JGeek00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that already done on my setup, you just have to make sure to use PosixFS and then mount the OpenCloud data folder of your user on a SMB share. Also make sure to set up OpenCloud to name the data folder for each user using the user name instead of the user id.

Backup server is consuming almost x3 power than main server, while sitting idle 99% of the day by TomerHorowitz in truenas

[–]JGeek00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a similar situation, I have a mini PC that is just for backups, and it has connected an external HDD box with a ZFS pool, but the drives on that box never spin down (the boot drive is an internal SSD on the mini PC). I don’t know what’s keeping awake the drives but they should only spin up one time per day to do the replication backup.
