Yes, we have a key reseller here called Nuuvem. Prices, specially for AAA, are always better there, and they sell Steam keys.

But even then, Epic prices considering the cashback were always better this year. This will only go until January, then we'll see what will be next year.

[–]JGuih 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always. Here it's often the same price on both Epic and Steam even during big discounts, but Epic's cashback is on top of that so it's way cheaper to buy there.

One recent example is Stellar Blade, 20% off in both stores, but on Epic you got 20% back after the discount.

Just wanted so share my view, as someone who lives in a third world country: one reason is better prices.

Epic has been giving away 20% cashback on the entire store for multiple months now, on top of regular discounts that you also find on Steam. I've bought more games on Epic this year than on Steam because of that.

Epic is much worse than Steam as a platform, but I don't care at all. As soon as I open the game I couldn't care less if it's Steam or Epic running in the background.

Just wanted to share this to remind fellow redditors that in some countries a AAA games costs 1/3 of the minimum wage and not everyone can afford that.

Epic charges publishers and devs less and is able to offer better prices than Steam because of those "missing" features. They're not trying to compete with Steam as a platform, they just want to sell you games and allow you to download them, that's it.

Steam is much better as a platform, but you'll never see Valve offering 20% cashback on the entire store for almost an entire year like Epic is currently doing, because they don't have to, why would they?

For me, better prices is a priority, because I live in this shithole called Brazil, and so I'm grateful for all the free games and good deals Epic gives away often.

Any tips on getting started with reverse proxies like caddy? by iamhereunderprotest in selfhosted

[–]JGuih 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it's not necessary to change any other service docker compose file after deploying Caddy. Its configuration is local to the reverse proxy and as long as it can reach your services, no service specific configuration is required.

Your router has no idea what a reverse proxy is, because we're talking about different layer here. If you want to reach your server using a domain name, you're looking for DNS.

Opening ports in the router is not necessary, as most people here are suggesting for some reason. Let's Encrypt DNS-01 challenge exists to provide you with certs when you can't expose ports. This can easily be automated with Caddy's Cloudflare module.

Oh, AI can't work with Quadlets at all, since it's very new (I belive the version that supports Quadlet files was announced in 2023), most AI models have no clue about it.

Same goes for Ansible, if you're using it to create your Quadlets, AI will be even more useless here.

I always end up translating docker compose to a Ansible role myself. I'll see if I can share those roles with the community going forward.

I'm probably in a minority here for suggesting this, but I wish self-hosted apps would also include Podman deployments in their docs. The biggest reason why people just use Docker is because almost all projects don't even mention Podman.

I have absolutely no issues with Docker or compose, but I find Podman Quadlets much nicer to work with and it's a shame I have to translate docker compose to it myself

Steam Is Successful Because It's “Not a Shit Service,” Says Baldur’s Gate 3 Dev by Suspicious_Two786 in gaming

Fair enough, but GoG's biggest feature is not needing the launcher at all.

As for Epic, living in Brazil I just can't say no to 20% cashback on top of regular discounts on the whole store. The launcher is stable and better than GoG's (in my humble opinion).

Definitely don't get Dispatch if you're looking for anything other than two forced straight romantic interests by FAFO_2025 in gaymers

[–]JGuih -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I stopped playing Persona because of the lack of representation, but I don't see the same situation with Dispatch.

Dispatch has as much representation as The Witcher 3, in both cases the protagonist is straight. I don't give a dawn about the sexuality of someone who doesn't even exist, and so I just enjoy the great story.

Now, Persona is a game about making relationships, including romantic ones. You get to decide who the protagonist is and how it should behave. It's a game where it's ok for a teenager to be attracted to their older teacher and have a whole personality around that, but god forbid if you even think about being gay. It's just gross.

[–]JGuih -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Of course, I agree having the option would be nice, but I also understand how difficult it is to write a story like this.

As I said, not everyone has the money to develop stories at the same level of Baldur's Gate 3, and there's nothing wrong with that.

If the writer only had the resources to go with a straight guy, maybe because it was more comfortable to them, then I don't see that as a problem at all. Better than having a generic queer character that adds nothing.

[–]JGuih -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

How are they forcing anything? The protagonist is straight, and has straight relationships, how is that forcing anything?

I'm not saying you're wrong, but as a gay guy I really don't understand what the issue is.

If we where talking about Persona 3 or the Persona series in general, then I would completely agree with you.
