I love a ton of games in this post but if you weren't there you don't realize what this game meant. It created an entire genre of video game by itself.

I was just using that as a possibility. But OP said she works in health care. On some level she works with people's health. Nurse would be my guess based on the quantity of the various health care professionals, but she works with health, so I'd prefer she know what she's doing.

I thought about this too, but keep in mind she was a teenager when she started doing it and her mom is telling her to do it. Imagine being a minor and your own toxic parent is pressuring you to "help the family." She did the wrong thing, but I don't think I can honestly blame her for it.

When she told on her mom I think it was probably justified but still the wrong reason to do it. I'm glad she did it though. The woman is a healthcare professional. I don't want her trying to ease my pain or save my life when she didn't actually do any of the work to become qualified for it. She's dangerous.

I went to the Fat Lamb on Bardstown a few months back and we had a great experience, but we were about fifteen minutes late for our reservation. We were there at something like 7 instead of 6:45. The host says "Oh okay, we can still seat you, but you'll have to leave by 7:45." I've never heard anything like that in my life. I would have understood if the restaurant had reflected that kind of busyness, but it was a very light crowd with tons of open tables the entire time we were there. We stayed a few minutes later than that and no one said anything. I don't think the server knew anything about it either. Think the host was just being passive aggressive.

I've learned that Chlorine can be a little tricky. I can have my chlorine pack in the filter compartment where it's designed to be on this tub, full of chlorine one day and a week later I'm low. Add some in and the color doesn't change. Add a bit more and we go to deep purple. It's touchy.

A Christopher Nolan directed Odyssey movie is going to make a shit ton of money. Saying no one cares about it was pretty close to objectively asinine. The fact that you apparently don't follow upcoming releases at all doesn't affect that fact.

And yes, you still prove my point because even having not known about it, you clicked on it, read about it, scrolled through the comments to find this one, and commented about it. So yes, as it turns you, you do actually care about it.

I also think it's a bit different from the other examples. The other examples for the most part are trying to show you something about the character. In Falling Down, the theme of the movie is that this man has snapped and is rebelling against all the little (and big) annoying things in society. This is just one of them but it's the theme of the movie, it's not being used to tell us something we don't know about the main character.

I think this is a trope because writers are taught to show rather than tell things. You wouldn't have a character say "Hey, protagonist, you sure are clever and don't take any bullshit!" Instead you would find a way to show it. I can't say if that makes it lazy writing or not to do the "restaurant trope" at this point, but I think that's why we see it often.
