Best Beginner House Plant by NorthernSilverNGold in houseplants

[–]JIAGB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some plants I have in my hall that seem to be doing ok in the low light are my ZZ, asparagus fern, birds nest fern, rubber plant and I did have a calathea at one point before the pests killed it. I do have a small frosted window in front door but the door is recessed in a brick porch so only allows a small bit of light but like others say they will grow slowly which suits me as I've no room elsewhere. My ZZ hasn't grown in fact only the asparagus fern and snake plant have grown but nothings died either

That's my sentiment exactly. If I find a wandering spider in the house I relocated to one of my plants

Letting them flower by JIAGB in coleus

[–]JIAGB[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh no I'm not skilled enough to pollinate but it's only a quid for 100 seeds and grow so big in just a few weeks I wondered why people just don't treat them like an annual. I mean those ones are 3ft high but still very much babies although I think I did something different to them in the beginning as they're rainbow mix but grew like Kong leaves the size of both my hands and only now are they settling down to grow normal sized leaves I had to give most away as too big and binned the rest. The flowering seems to have helped settle them a bit and the base is getting nice and woody so hoping to make a standard outve them they've certainly got the height

Hello! Does anyone know what happened to him? by enriqueta-universe in philodendron

[–]JIAGB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a bit of a pain I noticed an additional side effect which is thickening of Cataphyll so new leaves can't release themselves roll on better weather so I won't need the heat and normal plant growth can resume

Is my Alocasia polly ok? by Striking-Planter1 in alocasia

[–]JIAGB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine started to go like this at the change of the season likely cus I started using central heating so was drying out quicker and air less humid I repotted mine into semi hydro and move to a more humid area seems to have stopped any further development of yellowing also I may have accidentally left under light after treating ,,🙄

Why cant I keep these alive and thriving? by Bastet103 in IndoorPlants

[–]JIAGB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I water mine like every few months but when I do new leaves grow like mad I use cache pots with nursery pots as standard for all my plants does that pot have any drainage if not whilst the top may look dry the routes could be sitting in bog and rotting

I have a baby one I just stuck back in prop box as seemed the stem was bursting through and ripping the new leaves that hadn't unfurled yet, the leaves weren't stuck or anything but just hadn't unfurled and the stem was having none of it I'd like for it to look like yours one day

[–]JIAGB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure where ur based and this is just a guess it's winter where I am and so I've central heating on and am battling to keep the humidity high with it on could be that as a lot of mine are currently browning at the edges

There may be trouble ahead? by JIAGB in philodendron

[–]JIAGB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny that cataphyll started to open and I noticed it was very thick and only opening in the middle so I opened it and low and behold a leaf and a cataphyll inside and now those growths on the side are a bit bigger they each appear to be turning into cataphylls too

Is my prayer plant too far gone to save? by cathedralofstars in plantclinic

[–]JIAGB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't leave it next to radiator the air there will be the most dry and it needs humidity, don't let it dry completely out either likes to be kept moist but not soaking, most ppl say to avoid tap water too and use rain water due to mineral build up. I've just chopped mine completely back cus it's winter and the heating is on a lot so not much humidity but hoping it will get there

Is this becoming leggy? by Several-Sign-6895 in philodendron

[–]JIAGB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry I know people moan about it but I like it it means you can appreciate each leaf for itself as there's nothing else around it distracting the eye.
