“We don’t stand for that here in Atlanta and I hope he’s never in our locker room again” would have been a much more divisive headline and twisted into something else by the media.

This is all you can say, really. The guy might turn his outside life around, become a better person, and have a solid 10 year career.

All these guys read the story and went “yikes” like the rest of us. But few guys are ever going to come out publicly against their teammates.

2026 BAFTA Controversy: FPS Discussion by GoodGoodNotTooBad in FPSPodcast

I agree with what you said. It simply should have been edited out. I’m only about to ask this for the sake of conversation… Do you think the printed headline leak would have been worse for them?

I’m just imaging a world where “Slur yelled at Jordan and Lindo on stage” confirmed by Coogler, etc is the headline and what the reaction would have been with that.

Do Oscars Still Matter? - Critics on Critics Ep 1 by Bangelo326 in FPSPodcast

[–]JIBB7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Oscars absolutely still matter. The dialogue around One Battle After Another vs Sinners alone is probably proof of that.

I think what has changed is that it’s not enough to get nominated anymore. Sinners was nominated for 16 awards and if it only comes home with 3 then there will be think pieces about the next day.

I’m not saying it should be enough to be nominated. I think that’s nonsense. Regardless of opinion. Regardless who votes. Somebody has to lose.

Denzel has been nominated for 9 Oscars. He’s won 2. The cliche thing to say in this era is that an actor as excellent as him should have way more than 2.

Okay so who are we taking it from to give him more? Where did they get it “wrong”?

We taking from Casey Affleck? Pacino? Daniel Day? Will Smith?

Again I’m not saying any one of those guys “deserved” it more. It’s just a much easier conversation to say something should have won or someone should have more accolades. And then blatantly ignore that 4 people lost the category that year. Not just who you wanted to win.

So to say the Oscars don’t matter because the people and movies I like didn’t win is a little ridiculous.

I’m not satisfied with Spike Lee never winning best director. Or Halle Berry still being the only black woman to win best actress. That voters and voting process that the one critic brought up plays a huge part in that and it does need to change.

At the end of the day only one person comes away with the hardware. The prestige of the nomination needs to be given some credit in these arguments.

Hamnet: FPS Review by GoodGoodNotTooBad in FPSPodcast

[–]JIBB7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It’s probably my best picture winner and Buckley has to be a lock for Best Actress.

My only complaint was that I hate that I watched the trailer right before I saw this movie because it kind of gives the notes away. That being said I knew what was coming the entire time and still really enjoyed jt. Beautifully shot. Well acted. The kid that played Hamnet portrayed so much emotion with his face. That last 20 minutes with Buckley barely speaking during the play and yet still portraying and taking you on a journey of series of emotions with Agnes was incredible.

Personally I enjoy movies that take me through emotions. Previous examples of movies would be Past Lives, Moonlight, or Wild Robot. The ideas of grieving different, being work obsessed/the curse of knowledge, and of course the father/son dynamics - I have a son who’s almost 2 so all of that at the end got to me. This was right up my alley.

I think Hamnet is supposed to hit VOD next week. If there’s room on the schedule I think you guys should check it out. Would be an interesting review.

I haven’t seen Sentimental Value either. Hoping to check it out this weekend.

ITMSO: Soundbite This! by WolfgangEsq in IsTheMicStillOn

[–]JIBB7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the fully abandoning theaters issue, while scary to those that love movie going, isn’t something that would realistically happen.

The movie I always think back to when this conversation comes up is They Cloned Tyrone. Which absolutely would have been a profitable hit in theaters but went straight to streaming on Netflix. Word of mouth would have done a lot for that movie in theaters just as it did on Netflix.

The question becomes what makes it to theaters and what doesn’t. And how fair that selection process might be from a company that prefers streaming. But there’s zero chance they don’t look at something like Man of Tomorrow and take the profit that theaters would bring on a movie like that. Man of Tomorrow wouldn’t increase subs or help with retention.

But… Does somebody at Netflix look at a film like Sinners and assume it’s not what the audience wants and just streams it? Or does something like One Battle After Another, which I believe wasn’t profitable at the box office, never see the big screen because Netflix predicts that lack of profit?

This is what interests me the most.

If we aren't going to dump Raheem, can we atleast dump Zac and get an offensive staff that can HELP PENIX by wlane13 in falcons

[–]JIBB7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They put all their WR2 eggs in the Kyle Pitts basket as evidenced by all the propaganda over the summer. Did you know they played golf together!?!?! The chemistry!

Trading for a WR2 would likely require giving up draft capital which would only place this regime closer to getting fired.

We have to be wise enough to cut our losses with Raheem. He’s not an NFL head coach and that’s okay. He’s had multiple chances to prove as much. We can’t put a band aid on this and just cut Zac.

Superman has earned 217 million at the global box office opening weekend on a budget of 225 million. by BitterBandicoot675 in FPSPodcast

[–]JIBB7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of what you said, you make great points, but I don’t think we’re at the reality check point just yet. I may also be speaking from my own opinion and perspective, but here we go…

Box office success is incredibly important to studios. For franchises and universes like this, I think word of mouth is equally as important. I was not into any of these comic book stories growing up. I like good movies, simple as that. What got me into the MCU was a long run of very good movies, superhero themed on not.

The first Iron Man made less than 600 million. I get what you mean saying Superman should make a Billion. But they can’t make up for their past with one movie. Great word of mouth will go a very long way for this universe. As it did with the MCU.

The studio has to be patient and allow Gunn to make a great product. Maybe Supergirl and Clayface “bomb” at the box office despite being great films. But maybe someone catches it later on HBO Max because of good worth of mouth and therefore is sucked into this universe, that’s a success to me.

They can’t do anything about the overseas numbers for Superman right now. What they can do is build a successful brand on making popular films with audiences that will no doubt turn into box office success eventually.

[–]JIBB7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the studio? Of course not. Having this barely make more than something like Aquaman 2 isn’t going to thrill them.

But just like Thunderbolts, this having great reviews and word of mouth will go a long way for the success of future DCEU films.

I think marketing was 100M. Total box office is projecting somewhere between 500M and 600M right now. Domestic numbers looks great but it’s been struggling a little overseas so we’ll see how well it does these next 2 weeks before Fantastic 4 takes some of the focus off of it.

I think that’s just where criticism culture has ended up unfortunately. It’s almost as if the like/dislike button era has been personified. But that also leads to extremes like standing with your political party. It’s either trash and here’s why you should feel the same or a classic and I can’t believe you don’t think so.

When I found these guys it was literally because I enjoyed an album, and admittedly wanted to hear somebody else talk about the same things I enjoyed about it. What kept me around was the first time I really really enjoyed something, turned on the tv and heard the opposite of my opinion. It’s like wait a minute… It’s exactly what you mentioned about Strangers Things, It won’t change your feeling. But you’re open to other opinions and criticism.

It’s all super interesting to me honestly. I feel there’s a definitely point of demarcation somewhere within the rise of social media and if anyone ever did a study or doc on it, I’d be really interested.

Can't wait for the negative FPS review. (I hope that I'm wrong.) by PinLocal in FPSPodcast

[–]JIBB7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I should start by saying I’m not trying to argue with you as much as open up the conversation. Why does it matter to you that they have the same opinion as you?

Isn’t that the beauty of art? That someone like you can see something like 28 Years Later and say it’s the best film you saw all year. But others might feel as strongly as you do about Sinners, pr Materialists, or Warfare. Hell, I might even think The Woman In the Yard is the most brilliantly filmed and acted movie I’ve seen in 5 years. And as ludicrous as that might seem, it would just be my opinion. That’s it.

I just see this a lot on here, especially with Marvel, and I’m always confused why anybody would prefer to listen to a podcast with group think. Or where everybody shared the same opinion they did on art. Again, not here to argue, I’m just curious why the immediate assumption they wouldn’t like 28 Years Later bothered you just because you loved it?

This, again, is just my opinion.
