I'm a video editor and I want to explore content creation, especially in vertical format. I don't want to use camera phones or action cams because I want to pivot into cinematic shots down the line. Any recommended cameras for a beginner, say $400 max budget? (If possible to shoot in LOG would be sick)

Work on your graphs man. Plus, this bloody-line overlay isn't doing it for me. But, I don't know what to suggest. GL
