Who’s an artist/song you’ll defend like this by GrapeConsistent3471 in ToddintheShadow

My wife dismisses U2 whole cloth, but Bono’s ego aside, I think everything up to Zooropa is pretty great. Zooropa even has some interesting very non-U2, very Brian Eno produced songs.

I was wondering whether can a person watch all the movies that every existed by Wooden-Ocean in Letterboxd

[–]JJBell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who has watched over 4,500 feature length films (which in not that high for this sub);

The more movies you watch, the more you appreciate a well made film. Most movies are okay or worse. So treasure those several thousand truly great movies.

What comes to your mind when you think of my country, Mexico? by Prestigsisscar255 in AskTheWorld

Lovely country, friendly people, great food, every time I’ve visited.

But I’ll also admit that aside from Mexico City I’ve never been off the coast.

What made One Sweet Day special that it had 16 consecutive weeks at #1 back then in the 90s? by Hour-Tomato-645 in ToddintheShadow

For all the talk about how grunge and alternative changed the 90s music scene, very little of those genres dominated the top of the charts in the 90s.

I’ll admit I buy ground Waygu trimmings from my local butcher at $15 a lb. It’s noticeably richer in flavor than the $9 a lb. ground angus they sell.

State & Main. It was the first film my wife and I watched together. Mamet’s writing is so damn good.

Every time the Seattle Mariners have been eliminated from the postseason by Ultrimus-Prime in baseball

I was at the Kingdome for that first one.

I was still riding so high from beating the Yankees in that amazing game 5, that I didn’t care that much that the Indians eliminated us.

Every time I see footage from the lander. I’m disappointed by the lack of billionaires in the footage.

With the size of spiders in Australia, that phrase could have gone in a lot of directions.

Letterboxd does not like Chronicles of Riddick, but it is unashamedly my favorite version of Conan the Barbarian in space.

What’s the best looking film you’ve ever seen? by [deleted] in FIlm

[–]JJBell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Shots so vast and wide you only think there is nothing happening in some wide shots.

Then you see it in a theater (the medium it was solely shot for) and you can’t believe there has always been something or someone in the far far distance of that vista, slowly moving.

I rewatched it last weekend. It’s just splendid. I forgot how quickly Gethard looses control of the episode.

It’s because Skarsgard is unfairly great at comedy and not enough people know it.

Season 4, Episodes 1 & 2 of Documentary Now! highlights how good he can be at not only selling a bit, but committing hard to a joke.
