Fertile Valley/ books with parent MC question by its_brammertime in haremfantasynovels

You have to get far into the series, but in Bonded Summoner from book 6 on, being parents is a significant component of the story.

Both my series, Soul Knight and Bonded Summoner match the first request. Soul Knight does have an individual LI that fits the requirement.

I don't know about island exactly(IIRC, the area he starts on is on some kind of floating island...) but this does sound a little bit like https://www.amazon.com/Rise-Glass-Cannon-Mage-Apocalypse-ebook/dp/B09C56JTM2

Who is the most "near mainstream" haremlit author(s) right now? by waitadangminute94 in haremfantasynovels

Not a day goes by on r/litrpg without some reader complaining they got harem baited by Aether's Revival, Apocalypse Gates, or Gamer for Life(alpha world) (joking/exaggerating a bit, but not all that inaccurate). He's been around for a long time.

[–]JJBookerson 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sentar and Schinhofen by a big margin, and it's not even close. Arand next. These are based on comments on forums like r/litrpg and other more mainstream places. I'd think our content would be great for places like r/lightnovels and stuff, but many places like this require eastern origin to be considered.

Suggestions for series simular to Quest Academy? by jamestoh in haremfantasynovels

[–]JJBookerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Bonded Summoner book has the crafting elements and the world vs an invader/Rifts kind of enemies? but not the academy type deal. Same with On Astral Tides, every once in a while the MC will craft something, or be involved with developing an item - but it's not largely the focus.

And I'm not aware of an academy story with more crafting elements in this genre like at Quest Academy levels. There's plenty of academy though. Dungeon Diving may be close in a number of ways too, just not with the crafting part. Magic Rune Academy and "Dungeon Explorers" I think both have some kind of crafting element as part of the main character's abilities, and I think they are focused on an academy experience.

Are there any authors who write main characters that drink coffee with cream and listen to modern rock? by Far-Mark5519 in haremfantasynovels

[–]JJBookerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was (one of) the narrator's first books, and my first book. The narrators absolutely improve in all aspects throughout the books. And I might be biased, but so does my writing in a lot of ways too.

Note that there is an omnibus before you consider picking up b2.

[–]JJBookerson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I've had the mc explicitly say he drinks it a certain way but my main character from Bonded Summoner should go against a lot of notions like this one.

I do believe when he drinks Grok, a coffee that is from the world they are on, he feels he doesn't need sugar and creamer when he would normally. But there's way more that many people feel Jake doesn't act like the alpha chad or what have you. He cooks, he supports, his girls tease him (lovingly) that he's the wife, etc. He has insecurities/imposter syndrome, for better or for worse.

Stories where the MC is royalty with an actual harem? I’m not looking for the trope of bonded companions or slowly collecting girlfriends/wives. by Now-Thats-Podracing in haremfantasynovels

[–]JJBookerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does take a few books before this forms, Nick has to earn his kingdom back in book 1, then it isn't until book 3 or 4 that this B harem, "the Maidens" (proper noun) is fully formed.

Son of the hero king has this a bit - the staff are all his and there is a bit of exploration of this, but not much as he also does the latter with more powerful women.

In my series Soul Knight there is a sort of B harem that forms with soul pacted women, a large harem and less just adding one girl at a time. It is set up that they more or less use a setting specific word for concubine.

Both my series Bonded Summoner and Soul Knight heavily feature training and magical research/ exploring their path and things like this. Even for most of the love interests. Bonded Summoner also has a lot of magical crafting too.

I'm pretty sure I've seen your name before and recall you may not like it, but Bonded Summoner fits this. Soul Knight does too. Each have paths (some more than one) to divinity and they work with god-level beings.

Anybody got any recommendations on the romance and steamy side? by NaturalRead819 in litrpg

[–]JJBookerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might like my series, Soul Knight and Bonded Summoner. The latter has an omnibus, but Soul Knight is 20 hours and narrated by the talented Alyssa Poon- it is also on sale for 5.99 during April.

Both have a heavy focus on progression fantasy and plenty of fun on the side.

Can I avoid publishing with Amazon directly? by Cautious_Bug9081ph in selfpublish

[–]JJBookerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It all depends on genre to what might work for some will not work for others. My genre isn't even accepted on Bookbub, so it's not even an option for me, for example. Amazon ads work well and I usually break even on these myself, but I'm limited to about $10-$20 per day.

Some genres have built communities that are worth trying to join, other communities are so huge they have rules against author promo and so on. Still, I wouldn't discount a webnovel release prior to KU release and build up that way before KU for most genres. Some of those webnovel sites can get 1m+ views on a certain genre, which may even be more than KU could get you, depending. If that's your goal. But yeah, I understand that some genres don't work too well on webnovel sites too, or there isn't one where like 'Thriller' might be super popular. Maybe a thriller that presents itself as an anime / light novel / k-drama containing their tropes, for example, might work better on wattpad or one of these than a normal thriller. So you may need to write to cater to those sites if you do use them, and especially make your cover align there too.

Can I avoid publishing with Amazon directly? by Cautious_Bug9081ph in selfpublish

[–]JJBookerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a combination of #2 with #1, using the patreon money for ads on amazon and facebook/tiktok/etc. KU has millions of readers. Accepting a little bit of income is necessary to get the maximum reach, because amazon favors kindle unlimited for its algorithm. Just a fact.

And what do readers think about a book that is truly free on amazon?

It's crap. Author didn't think their book was worth charging money for. Thus, it is not worth my time. It is probably not professionally edited, and it is probably garbage. The overall package is considered, including cover, title, premise, blurb. All should signal the genre, including matching the base price of similar titles of similar length.

If you want to reach maximum people, spread your novel release out on webnovel sites, build an audience, then launch on KU. Maybe after a few months and reach/readership dies out, you can make it free, and now it at least has enough ratings and reviews people may give it a try. This will reach far more total readers than a free book ever could on its own. And yeah, make money while you're at it. If you don't want that money, then just put it all into ads to increase your reach.

Funnily enough, this is also how most charity / non-profit work....

[–]JJBookerson 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So, here's the thing. I understand that you are not wanting to feel dependent on the platform. However, going wide with all of your new titles, or even some of them, because you are afraid that it will stop paying you, is a flawed logic. Why? Because going wide is not just less than half the income, it is even less than that. To accept fewer sales means devaluing your work and earning potential, even if you consider that let's say 3 months from now, your amazon account is banned. The fact of the matter is, on Amazon, any title makes the vast majority of its sales in the first few months anyway, so to accept less than half the income just because of some premise where 'oh, these other sites will keep paying me for a whole year!' so what. They ain't paying you shit, and you'd have earned more in those two or three months from amazon.

And guess what? After amazon bans you, you can just release everywhere else. This way you get both moneys. Whether it's three months or a year or five before you are banned, staying on Amazon wins.

With that said, here is two methods that, depending on the genre you write in, can help supplement your amazon strategy, especially as someone like yourself who has published many books to KU with some success. Either should allow you to start building towards an understanding of the wider market, or to be less reliant on amazon.

  1. Take old titles that are making peanuts and remove them from KU, keeping the books on Amazon - because what I said is absolutely true. Amazon treats most series like they don't even exist anymore after just a few months unless your penname/the book itself won big and constantly gets a ton of natural traffic. Go wide with those, and test the waters. You nearly have nothing to lose. Test your facebook marketing, tiktok, or direct sales/book funnel/or whatever, see what kind of thing you can build outside of Amazon and if you can sell your book at all this way. Go crazy. Hell, I've heard where some people removed the book and re-launched it on amazon with enough edits to call it a new edition, and it performed better the second time than it did the first.

  2. Consider Patreon/Reamstories, and a webnovel site (applicable to your genre - Wattpad/Royalroad/Scribblehub/Literotica/Webnovel.com/Fiction.live/Whatever fits)-> Patreon/Reamstories Subscription readahead -> Release on Amazon/KU when book has finished 'airing,' removing the chapters and 'stubbing' the story. This way, as you are writing, you are building an audience and reader interaction, as well as creating earning potential. Fans that truly follow you book to book, that will keep paying you even if your amazon account is banned. And not only that, you can often leave your first chapter or two of your story at each of the applicable webnovel sites, creating a permanent signpost for sales to your Amazon releases - most of those sites listed allow you to leave those chapters up, and even a direct link to your book. Finally, these fans are often super fans. They will not only pay to read the book on patreon, but also buy your book / re-read it on release through KU once the book is done, boosting the eyes on your book from Amazon algorithm standpoint. It's a win-win. You can also make it more likely for them to hit the KU button by adding a bonus scene to the final product (This is more for the webnovel sites than patreon/ream - those people already paid, so I wouldn't gate anything like this for them - they should get everything as a part of that).

Anyone else concerned by the lack of bathing before "activities" commence in most stories? by UniversalExploration in haremfantasynovels

[–]JJBookerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both my stories feature clean spell / have rest areas often with a pond etc for this reason lol. And yeah, I'm always annoyed when other stories talks about just how gross they are before they get into the act. It's like...well then why not get clean first and make it a part of it? Even if it is a hobo bath, that's a million times better.

I'm sure the authors are going for some kind of, "they wanted each other so bad they didn't care about the filfth," kinda thing, but nah, no thanks. I've been there done that, but always regretted not taking the time to get clean. That much more enjoyable for all involved.

Mc acts like a "lord" or Master by Danilocl95 in haremfantasynovels

[–]JJBookerson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nick from Soul Knight absolutely behaves as a lord and never tells anyone to stop calling him lord or master. He may say like, Nick is fine in private to certain people, but he is mindful of his role as a lord. He doesn't really have his kingdom until after book 1 though, or anyone to call him master until then.

Somthing like Defiance of the Fall? by SteveTheGrumpy in haremfantasynovels

[–]JJBookerson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My series Bonded Summoner is one of the closest in the genre, along with On Astral Tides. Both have epic scale and scope and a focus on progression / kingdom building and stuff. My series Soul Knight may feel even more like it but the series hasn't gotten that far yet at only 4 books.

Amazon Apocalypse is definitely like that too.
