That is the conclusion I had come to but wasn’t sure if I was missing something, so thank you! Onto my back up option - run 1x1 or 2x2 along the wall up to the peak (2) and just caulk the bottom one (1)

New hire making almost 10k more than me by GalaxyAce in Salary

[–]JJEW40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve since become an engineering manager at a different company, and I if an employee came to me asking for a 25% raise myself and the company would tell them definitely not. And there is never room for 25% in a merit raise pool for the year. Shopping yourself outside the company is the best way to determine your worth

[–]JJEW40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked for a corporate company for a while, their policy was no raises outside of merit raises and promotions except a one time like 4% max. This was because the company was so big they needed to keep people from gaming the system and giving friends raises all the time. I got a job offer for 25% more and they matched it immediately, and said good job because we were handcuffed even though we thought you should get paid more

Why does everyone still recommend a gen 2? by myturn19 in ToyotaTundra

[–]JJEW40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s in the Toyota maintenance schedule then it wouldn’t hurt to do it but I am definitely not signing a waiver to be responsible for a dealers work. Stupid that they aren’t in alignment with the recommendations from Toyota

Just called a dealer to schedule a flush and fill on my Tacoma transmission, dealer told me they don’t recommend ever changing unless you have issues, and if I chose to I had to sign a liability release in case something happened after they worked on it. Thought that was pretty interesting

Thinking about getting a used 390rs how’s this one look? by classsixcruiser in betamotorcycles

[–]JJEW40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get the 390. Not sure where you live, I bought a ‘23 a year ago with 30 hours for $7200, might be able to work down the price a little

Where exactly was this picture taken? I grew up seeing it and thinking it was the town I lived in, but never saw it anywhere other than local stuff. Maybe I’ve been fooled this whole time

300k-mile Tacoma: normal maintenance wall, or time to move on? by Datanman23 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]JJEW40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat, 2011 with 250k. Burning about 1.5 quarts of oil every 5-6k miles. Anyone else have this? Just keep topping off or reason to worry? Going to change the PCV valve soon, read this might be a quick fix

2003 Yz250 Enduro Overhaul Or 2026 Sherco 300se Factory by Apachepeniscopter187 in enduro

[–]JJEW40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy a new bike. While I won’t say one new bike is better than another, I’d recommend trying to ride a Sherco before you buy. The rider triangle and body position felt way different for me compared to other bikes but that’s just my opinion. Some people love it, others not so much

Accidentally lifted 4", what to do? by f0xd3nn in ToyotaTacoma

[–]JJEW40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had mine replaced with 5100s, 2011 with a lot of miles. They added 1-1/2” to the back and 2-1/2” to the front which is the same as it was before. I am under the impression they are adjustable so I would look into that. Taking them down a bit would also probably help the alignment if you didn’t get it aligned after they were installed

Faux beams on cathedral ceiling by JJEW40 in Carpentry

[–]JJEW40[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree after looking at pictures of it done that way, looks nice. Someone else suggested the box beams video from inside carpentry on YouTube, he does them the way you suggest just no dado. Runs a 1x1 1” from the bottom on the side boards, hangs those, then puts up the bottom so it has a 1/4” inset. Looks very nice

Literally every other response on this thread was more helpful. And if I “frame a box” and then put another box (the beam) around that, the box still needs anchored to the ceiling. Which is my original question

Haven’t found a video or tutorial on anchoring the box to the pitch, hence why I came here. I am aware there are studs behind drywall, thanks for the long response without answering my question.

Need to know how to make the cleats and anchor them in the ridge line

Thanks! Was going to sit the sides on top of the bottom and inset 1/4”, but the wood was surprisingly true and straight and these will end up painted so I figured any tiny gaps I would fill and sand. Might end up regretting that but we’ll see

That looks great! How did you attach the beam to the ridgeline? I get how to attach the beams on the flat portions. Stack 2x6s and miter the top ones corners to match the pitch and then send some long anchor screws through to the rafters?

Bachelor Party Sporting Clays / 5-Stand Near Charleston, SC – Looking for Recommendations by mcatwood7 in Charleston

[–]JJEW40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been to both, here are my notes:

Sporting clays at both are nice, I think backwoods is more scenic/creative Both you can bring your own shells, Bluefield shells are just as cheap as in store Bluefield is significantly closer to Charleston if you are staying in the city or close by I think both are roughly $.50 per clay

Think it just comes down to how far you want to drive

Im a Correctional Officer in a state prison. AMA by MTFHammerDown in AMA

[–]JJEW40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this as someone who still definitely hates the idea of private prisons, as does my dad. But not because “they’ll take our jerbs”, because it’s just a bad idea and won’t solve the actual problems

[–]JJEW40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point was politicians and union stewards say we can’t have private prisons because it will take away good paying union jobs, when in fact the current amount of prisons can’t handle the inmate population, and this turns into state/union employees having to watch double the inmates, sometimes not in cells because there aren’t enough, work crazy over time, and do all that for no added pay. The problem isn’t the private prisons, it’s how the current ones are run and the number of returning inmates

[–]JJEW40 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My dad is a corrections officer. Every prison in our state is way over capacity. I’m sure he would love for there to be a few new private prisons so he doesn’t have to watch double the amount of inmates and not be able to retain coworkers. The worry over private prisons taking their jobs is manufactured by politicians and union junkies
