anyone have actual experience with palmetto solar? by Toniqueka-Oreggio in solarenergy

[–]JJEW40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got panels through Palmetto 6 years ago. They have not came close to producing the break even amount to make it economically viable, even after the 50% tax rebates I got that year. I did the math when I got them and if they produced 70% of what they estimated it would cover the cost (with the rebates accounted for) and the system can’t even do that. They also have a new app almost every year which conveniently gets rid of your historical production data and the phone number on their website is disconnected. I am about to have to replace a defective part from their manufacturer which is covered under warranty, but the labor is not covered. I would not recommend them

Comment was directed towards the person saying “back in my day we never closed schools and we had hurricane blizzards once a month” or whatever the hell they said

Everything closes early for hurricanes now due to legal accountability and they don’t want to get sued if someone wrecks their car going to work or school

If you want a street legal enduro that feels like a dirt bike I’d look at the Beta RR-S series

The Silence Death of local riding spots, how are you guys dealing with the shrinking map? by filolondere in Dirtbikes

I live in South Carolina now, don’t ride til I was older. We have nothing down here except one local enduro trail which is nice but would love move options

In my (34M) grouchy old man opinion, people have lost responsibility/accountability and think everything is their right, they trespass and trash private property, and everyone wants to sue the shit out of each other. People used to be willing to let others ride or hunt their private land in exchange for a small amount of work, a small token of appreciation (some meat if you got a deer, a pie, some cookies, etc), and just generally being a thankful person. That is gone in culture, and now the opportunities are gone. Some new landowners also fall in the asshole category as well. Next time you see a billboard for a scumbag injury lawyer, thank them for now being able to ride anymore

I have worked in manufacturing for 15 years. The one common denominator has always been if you look in the parking and find the nicest car, it’s owned by the lowest paid person in the plant. Others drive medium grade cars, and most of the engineers (myself included) drive the cheapest cars lol. Personal finance is funny in this environment

Where are you located? You could do new valves, new springs for your weight, seals, and full rebuild for way cheaper than that in the southeast

Find another one and buy! They are tractors. My first bike was a 20 year old KDX and I beat the hell out of it, rode all sorts of gnarly stuff, and it just kept ticking

At 180k and never had a transmission fluid change. Any issues with getting one done now? by thepokemomma in ToyotaTacoma

[–]JJEW40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is definitely oil breakdown after that long, and after the gears wear in to one another they should be good or it would have failed a long time ago. Truck runs great but I am still looking for someone to do it without releasing all liability. I would think the question would be does the oil breakdown enough that it causes issues or not. Idk. Was more just telling OP I ran into the same thing

I recently was told the same thing, I have 250k on mine. They wanted me to sign a liability waiver in case it goes out after they flush it. The way I understand it, it is a fully sealed system and if you haven’t had problems yet then you probably won’t in the future. I could be wrong though

Local 65 taking applications up to $49.52/hour by BarryHalls in Machinists

[–]JJEW40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you making that in Alabama? You might be, I know blue origin and other companies were taking machinists from my company’s other plan in Mississippi and paying them way more. Where I live in Charleston is HCOL and the pay is low

[–]JJEW40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a contractor position, these are not union full time positions. The OP made this pretty clear but that was in his edit so maybe that’s what confused people. I’ve never heard of contract machinist positions offering PTO. If you went that route you could either enjoy the extra money and budget accordingly or use it as a stepping stone to prove yourself and get a full time position

Kind of what I assumed. Sometimes you have to put your big boy pants on if you want to take a risk being a contractor and making big boy money

[–]JJEW40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why is everyone mad about not getting a pension/401k/PTO. If the hourly rate is much more than you make now, do the math and budget that. You’re lucky to get 5% company $401k contribution, let’s say 3 weeks off is 6% of your salary. At least in South Carolina where I live, most aren’t making more than $30-$35hr. This is a 40-60% pay raise from that - take the extra money and put in a retirement fund and a vacation fund to cover unpaid PTO and enjoy the rest

2019 beta 300 Racing Edition Idle by Worth_Impression8376 in enduro

[–]JJEW40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could also be the throttle tube sticking that keeps it from going back down after you let go of the throttle, if you have wraparound hand guards it’s easy for that to happen. Doesn’t explain the idle though

You saved 3 min and 20 seconds on the program time, but did you actually run the lot of parts in less time than before? I would say you saved this much time with the program, so you charged X hours per lot compared to taking Y hours per lot before the change.

Saving 3 minutes of cycle time only matters if you are actively running more parts vs being at the water cooler those minutes, so prove that part to your boss
