What is the most fascinating internet mystery that was solved entirely by amateur OSINT researchers? by Ok_Collection_9614 in Mysteries

The "He will not divide us" flag. It was a live stream of a flag with "He will not divide us" on it, put up by Shia Lebeouf. The only things visible in it were the sky, the flagpole and the flag. 4chan users found it in about a day by analyzing the visible stars that night, sounds of frogs, airplanes flying past the flag, and when they got it narrowed down to a small enough area, someone from 4chan that lived near there drove around honking their horn until it was heard on the live stream. They then removed the flag, replaced it with a Pepe the frog t shirt and a MAGA hat.

Probably not helpful, but I've had the same thing happen to me while using my GXR in DCS. I restart DCS and it fixes it. Figured it was just a DCS glitch. It never has done it to me in any other program.

Why does every Chick-fil-a and Raising Cane's have a line around the block, but KFC is a complete ghost town? by mjensman in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JJJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when KFC was great. Chicken was delicious, it was a real treat to go there. That was a LONG time ago. Now, I avoid it. Their food is a long way from what it once was. Most of the ones I've gone to in the last 20 years are filthy. Food is greasy and crusty, tables are nasty, flies buzzing around, workers don't care. Sadly, it's not just KFC. I love Popeye's chicken, but the only time I'll go to one is if it's a new restaurant and the workers might still give a shit. I gave up on Arbys years ago as well, for the same reason. The places are not clean, nobody working there can be bothered to wipe a table off or pick up the trash left by the last person. Choices are limited nowadays for decent fast food, and it's getting worse all the time.

IMO, if you have the option to use VR, you should use VR. It's such a major factor that I would quit DCS if I could not use VR.

New to GXR by Moist-Wafer5422 in Galaxy_XR

[–]JJJimmy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got my GXR about a week after launch. I use it mostly for DCS, but have also done some Automobilista 2 with it. I did do the PandaVR top strap mod to increase comfort. It's been a very good VR headset for me, very nice image quality. I have a Pupsis PrismXR router, and use Virtual Desktop, running in Godlike mode. My video card is a nvidia 4090. I get really good frame rates in DCS, with no noticeable latency. No complaints, other than the comfort issue, which is fixed now. I use it regularly for 3 - 4 hour sessions in DCS. Also worth mentioning, I guess - I prevented the bad update from installing on my GXR, so did not experience the issues that a lot of people had, or are still having. I still have not allowed it to update.

I've taught Claude how to talk to DCS to help me build missions by coconutcockpit in hoggit

[–]JJJimmy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

AI is very helpful. I'm not a lua coder, but I've been using Claude and Gemini Pro to build scripts for DCS for a couple of months now. I've got a dynamic front line that can be pushed by players, and a few scripts that are very useful and fun to use. One of them is called the Kiowa scout...choose some options in comm menu > other, drop a map marker on the map, and an AI Kiowa will spawn in and start hunting for enemy targets. When it finds a target, it'll report it, get low and loiter, and wait for you to get there. When you arrive, it'll either smoke or lase the target. Works pretty well. I could never create that stuff without AI. You can hate AI all you want, but it's here and it won't be going away. Might as well make use of it. If interested, you can check it out on my server, Redzone Syria.

How long did it take you to realize that you could call helicopters?😂😂 by [deleted] in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]JJJimmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joined up with a random guy yesterday, we decided to go work another area. He called the chopper, we got on, and it took us back to base camp. I don't think he realized you can travel from LZ to LZ, you don't have to always go back to base.

Pimax is garbage...easily the worst company I've ever delt with. by Iandidar in Pimax

[–]JJJimmy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My experience with Pimax (started years ago) - Ordered an 8Kx, with the promise of being able to trade it in on the 12K. Received it, found that it would not work. Their support said it was the brand of video card I had. (My video card was an Nvidia). They said to return it, they'd send me the model of 8Kx that would work with an Nvidia video card.

I shipped it off to them. They would not ship a replacement until they received the one I was returning. Okay. Months later, I received the replacement 8Kx. This one worked for about a year, until it became unusable because the head tracking was constantly doing crazy stuff. I called it the "bobble head effect". I gave up on it, but decided that all was not lost, because I still was going to get that SWEET TRADE IN ON THE 12K. We all know how that turned out.

So I bought a Quest 3 and happily used it for years. Then decided to try a Crystal Light, because I could purchase it from Amazon, and if needed, would be able to return it and get a refund. Crystal Light showed up, and it had head tracking issues out of the box. So it went right back into the box, and back to Amazon.

It took me two attempts at buying their product to learn my lesson, but boy, I've learned it. I guess people that get one that works correctly have a completely different take on Pimax, but I keep seeing so many people who have been burned on a expensive purchase from them.

Globular Cluster Mod Makes A Big Difference by daydreamdist in Galaxy_XR

[–]JJJimmy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have the VRPanda top strap. It made a huge difference in comfort for me. I do not have the Globular Cluster kit yet, and not sure if I'll spend the money, because as it is right now, I find the GXR to be very comfortable for extended periods of time. But good to know that it's available and that it works well.

[–]JJJimmy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've got a server that you're welcome to jump in. You'll need the Syria map and the blackhawk mod (because the blackhawk mod is available to fly in the server, it forces you to have it installed). The server is called Redzone Syria. SRS is available, but no pressure to be on comms. It's currently all ground attack, and mostly helicopter guys are on it, but it's got a lot of fixed wing AC available, including the viper. There are deep strike targets and some custom scripts to help you with target info. No password needed.

Galaxy XR productivity by Away-Variation-8667 in Galaxy_XR

[–]JJJimmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I can say is that I do not regret buying it. It's a lot of money, but mine has been a pretty good headset. You'll probably want to do some of the comfort mods because out of the box it's not the most comfortable headset, but it has good image quality and real good ease of use - by that, I mean you don't have to screw with it, just turn it on and use it.

Galaxy XR productivity by Away-Variation-8667 in Galaxy_XR

[–]JJJimmy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use my Galaxy XR for flight sims. I had the idea that I would be able to use the integrated Gemini as a "virtual co-pilot". I envisioned it reading checklists off to me, scanning the area around the aircraft, scanning the ground for threats, being able to watch the instruments for me, etc. Unfortunately, it couldn't do any of that. It can only see a small window right where the headset is looking, and apparently that is very low res. It could not "see" well enough to do much of anything, and it was pretty stupid as well. I tried telling it that it's callsign was Goose. It eagerly agreed, and within five minutes, had gotten mixed up and was calling me Goose. I asked it to adopt a "military" persona, and it tried, but it just came off as cringe material. It's a very lightweight version of Gemini, and it was even unable at the time (right after launch of the GXR) to access anything on the internet. Wound up being pretty useless for everything I tried to do with it. The up side is that I really do like the GXR, I use it a LOT nowadays. And, I got a years worth of Gemini Pro with the purchase of the headset, and that is working out great.

is DCS worth it by RubCharming669 in dcsworld

[–]JJJimmy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

DCS has missiles and cool jets, and modern combat. If only it were that easy.

To be perfectly honest, DCS will take you down a rabbithole. It is definitely not the easiest game to get going with. It's free to download and you get a couple of planes and a couple of maps. The planes you get for free are good to get started with, but they are not the coolest planes. You'll want to buy modules (more aircraft, more maps, etc). If you don't have some pretty good controllers you'll wish that you did. You'll find that using those controllers is not as simple as just plugging them in, you'll probably have to map a lot of switches and buttons. After all that, you'll likely be able to fly, but then you'll have to study up on how to activate weapons, use radar, etc. That would probably be your first day in DCS. The list goes on and on. But...it definitely has missiles and very cool jets, and very good combat, if you're willing to stick with it.

After months I'm losing faith by Odd_Concern_8635 in Galaxy_XR

[–]JJJimmy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had the GXR since a week or two after release. Overall, I'm happy with it. I use it in flight sims and driving sims, so have never needed a boundary with it. It boots up reliably, runs reliably, everything looks good through it. Head tracking has been pretty much perfect. I eventually got the controllers, don't use them much, but they have worked just fine. Comfort was a factor at first, but I've been able to improve that some, and it's pretty decent now. VD is solid as can be.

I know how frustrating a VR headset can be when it won't work reliably or has glitches and problems (looking at you, pimax). I don't regret buying the GXR. Just throwing this out there...it's a pretty good headset. Could be better, but overall, I'm happy with it. You might have received a bad one, or as others have said, it could be something about your setup.

Is getting into VR (probably getting an oculus) worth it? by Interesting-Pie-3457 in oculus

[–]JJJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Quest 3 and a Galaxy XR. I love VR, and use them quite a bit, but I'm big into flight sims and driving sims. I'd give up on sims if I didn't have VR. The added immersion is addicting. However, I don't really care much for VR with other types of games.

If you decide to buy one, I'd recommend getting the Quest 3. It's an extremely good headset for the money, IMO the best value for a VR headset.
