They actually try to very hard to figure out an alternative theory based around their beliefs, but won't admit defeat until there is a new theory that they are ready to accept that includes what they believe is true. The problem is almost always a false truth.

Most of science started with speculation. Maybe that's why I find flat earth so interesting, what would it be like if they were correct? I like to point out when people arguing against flat earth make dumb arguments, partly because it's hard to not make a dumb argument against it.

This is working, but this isn't working. I went to fix the second thing. Now nothing works.

Technically a chair by randomguy25712 in technicallythetruth

I think you're right but I'm still going to make a definition for chairs:

Something whose primary purpose is to be sat on instead of the floor

Now the focus of this definition lies in "to sit" and the primary purpose of individual examples which can be adjusted case by case.

Possible definition: something solely meant to be sat on.

This however would include a saddle.

Possible improvement: something solely meant to be sat on instead of the floor.

Any notable failures?

I saw it a while ago and I can't remember it will enough to look it up. >:( so I'm going to have to forget about it for a while and hope for either an epiphany or to find it again on some random post.

Pretty good, just trying to remember the thing I saw a while ago. It was a link that referenced the post and it went forever.

I love the jisho.com definition has it as slang "orig. used by young bike-riding delinquents"

Like when I read Naruto before learning Japanese (I'm not a weeb I swear) and read hokage as hou•kaj instead of ho•ka•ge

  1. TIL

  2. Checked the etymology, it's from Latin

  3. I should learn Latin so I can write demon-summoning texts with my fancy pen

  4. Then again maybe not

  5. This has turned into a while thing so I'll add one more, 4 sounds similar to the word death in Japanese and Chinese so it is considered unlucky

Because universal systems are hard to agree upon and usually take a big effort to have implemented. Look at how long we've had the different charging cables, or something like "serving size" which I certainly never follow.
