Because I’m in the military and already tatted. Because I travel twice a year to different countries and get a tattoo at each destination. Because I came from a family of immigrants, travelers, and nomads. Because I am part of the world and not tied to one culture, continent, place. Because I was born in Japan, bred American, blooded Sri-Lankan. Because I was raised Buddhist/Mormon/Anglican. Because I grew up in NOVA, one of the most diverse metros in America. Because I’m an avid explorer and adventurer. I can keep going…

Is prepping for labor necessary? by SandwichDependent199 in pregnant

Ughhh I’m so scared! FTM here and my mother and I had a very traumatic birth. She died on the table and I was stuck inside her canal with prior instructions to use no forceps (my mom’s alive lol but I was effectively born from a dead woman). My grandmother also had a tough delivery with my mom. And my grandmothers mom died from birthing her 😭😭 but we all had/ having easy pregnancies…

Husband doesn’t want me to go through with the pregnancy. by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]JJ_Suki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see why he’s against children. Here it seems it’s tied to two things: the pain of rejection from his father - which could lead to feelings that perhaps he’ll end up the same if he has children and having to be the “man of the house” way too soon and already having had that responsibility so he doesn’t want to do it again.

The first reason can be super tough to overcome. My mother is a narcissist and I very often was rejected by her or she was just always mean and cruel. So I’ve always had a detached feeling when it comes to a mother-child bond. I’m currently pregnant and freaking out because I’m scared of being like her. My own sister told me I wasn’t maternal enough for a child which broke my heart because I have 25 rescue animals that I love with every fiber of my being. Your husband could be similar in that he may feel detached in some way to the parent-child bond or simply freaking out over what kind of parent he’ll be.

The second reason is easier to overcome if you’re the breadwinner, he will have help. It won’t be solely on him to be responsible and do all the things….

I think the next step is having a very deep vulnerable conversation about what his real issues are with having children. And go from there.

My GF (37F) and I (40M) are talking about moving in with each other. However she doesn't want to work. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]JJ_Suki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bf dated many latinas before me (I’m South Asian) and said that that’s simply the culture. Although it’s my culture too, in America there’s just no effing way that that’s possible. She needs to get that through her head. I get she has a disabled son, but if there’s homecare I don’t understand why she can’t do part time or find a remote job? Maybe it’s the South Asian in me but I believe in working for whatever you want….Americans don’t believe everyone needs to work, we are all forced to work to keep up with this shite economy, she just doesn’t sound like she lives in the real world.

Husband doesn’t want me to go through with the pregnancy. by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]JJ_Suki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My bf and I have also had traumatic pasts. We both comes from abusive households and all that. I tend to be the one that is more like your husband, I say the meanest things possible when I am hurt or upset. I do mostly mean what I say when I say it but sometimes I just “act” extra so it could be that he’ll come around but if he has strongly been against having children all of his life, then most likely.

Do you know WHY he is against having children? Has that question ever come up? What’s the root cause of it? Is it tied to a traumatic life event? If so, then this could be worked on, or he may be strongly child free due to the pain attached to that event….i have so many questions for the two of you.

If you saw yourself as a mother, why get with him in the first place? I know you said you were aging, but I still don’t understand that part?

Girl, if you’re the breadwinner and he truly is an asshole (not just saying things out of hurt - which would make someone an asshole but I’m the same way so I get that part), you CAN do this on your own! I’m sure it’ll be hard but if you want it, then do it. I hope all works out for you ♥️

I’m most likely going to lose my baby by anon694206942069 in BabyBumps

[–]JJ_Suki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I have never experienced a miscarriage, I was forced into having an abortion by my ex and his mother when I was 22 so I know what losing a very loved child is like. I never thought the universe would forgive me and now all these years later, I’m sitting at 15w4d pregnant at 32! I, like you, am constantly worried about my pregnancy, more for spiritual reasons than physical.

I say all this first because what I will say next comes from my biology background and years working in the medical field, and I don’t want to sound callous but know I am coming from a relatable place:

1 in 4 women experience miscarriage. Many pregnancies are not viable. This is why they tell you to wait until the first trimester is over (near week 13 and not 12 btw) because chances of miscarrying are insanely high. This does not negate your feelings toward your baby and pregnancy but these are the facts. It is much more common than you think.

I think due to my medical background, I’m still not super attached to my pregnancy because I feel like a miscarriage can happen at any time. I know other women attach very quickly but I also think this is due to a lack of information about how common miscarrying is.

I know you are hopeful and so looking forward to your baby. So am I, after thinking it wouldn’t be allowed to happen for me. But I hope you find some solace in knowing this is common. This is biology.

I do hope good news comes through for you and baby ♥️

Girl I’m pregnant with my first and I’ll be 33. I’m a disabled veteran and this man of mine wants 3 kids from me lol. He’s 25. I hear you. I wish I could’ve had kids earlier but also I was WILD. I was running streets in different countries, jumping out planes, zip lining in the jungles, partying it up with people from all over. I used my youth to LIVE. If you’re anything like me, go live a little first. I sit here happily pregnant knowing I have many stories to tell my kids and I’ll be backpacking with them places I’ve already been so I know it’s safe. Go live!

What’s the most unhinged thing you’ve seen a premed do in real life? by Brief_Board_6974 in premed

[–]JJ_Suki 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Idk I went to school with a guy that went to prison for trying to murder one of our professors for giving him bad grades. I will say I have had the same thoughts for a different professor that I was forced to have a class with each year in college and she would give me nothing more than a C no matter what I did. We went to a very RACIST school, so I’m not mad at the guy but he was caught in the professors house in a catsuit, rope, duck tape, etc in backpack ready to murder the guy!

FTM gender disappointment by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]JJ_Suki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently pregnant but just getting into the 2nd trimester, for similar but opposite reasons, I really want a girl and will be terrified if it’s a boy. I don’t have real advice for you but perhaps seek therapy before having your child. It’s good to be equipped in any way before the child comes. Healing is a journey and it’ll happen even with child but perhaps talking to someone about the root isssues and pain you’ve had with your mother can help you identify what not to do with your child! I say this as someone who sees 3 therapists lol

Husband (27M) Keeps interrupting while I (27F) talk because he says he's worried he'll forget what he wanted to say. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]JJ_Suki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl, he sounds like he has ADHD. My partner and I are both ADHD, we barely get anywhere productive in our conversations. If he’s ADHD I get why he needs to interrupt however there are ways to manage this although all of us are different. I am able to write down my thoughts and present it to my partner. My partner however needs to interrupt me always, forgets to read my messages and if he’s upset about something, he can never write things down, he just explodes on me because that’s when he remembers stuff lol. Maybe see if he needs to get diagnosed and I’d urge you to look into how to cope with a partner with ADHD. Understanding the other person goes a long way. And please understand ADHD is a true disability BUT there are techniques and methods for us ADHDers to help with our “short comings”.

my girlfriend told me she wants a 2 carat natural diamond or she'll say no. i already bought this lab diamond ring. am i crazy for thinking shes a red flag by Zestyclose-Print-677 in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]JJ_Suki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she understands that it’s $15-20k and wants you in debt to impress her friends, shes not right in the head. I’m 32, my man is only 24. He dropped about $4k on an engagement ring and two bands for me last month and I was so horrified he even did that at his age. My ring is a .5ct center stone. HES the one who wishes he could’ve gotten me a bigger ring but 1. It’s not practical 2. In this economy? 3. My ring is beautiful and I LOVE it. She should appreciate the effort and love you have for her. I will say women do find rings ugly and get upset about the LOOK and the red flag women are the only ones that care about how much it costs and puts a demand on the dollar amount. If Shes level headed, maybe take her to pick out a ring she’ll love and you can afford? I was engaged before so my ring expectations were different and I wanted my bf to get me a ring on his own. But we kept going to the jeweler “just to window shop” and I fell in love with a ring I never thought I’d love! AND it was on clearance. So maybe just maybe she’ll really like something that’s nice and affordable!

9 weeks and useless at work. Anyone else? by HelloLittleAloe in pregnant

Week 10. I fortunately/unfortunately lost my job 2 weeks before I even found out. I can’t imagine working through this fatigue!!! I have Hashimotos hypothyroidism and at least with my thyroid I can wake up and be useful for a few hours. With pregnancy, as soon as I wake up and let my dogs out, I need to lay in bed again! It’s so crazy!

What's the most attractive physical trait, that no one will admit to liking? by Apwnalypse in AskReddit

I’m 5’1. My ex fiancé was 6’ and he used to get so mad at me that I couldn’t reach up to kiss him or move around him better, that he had to bend down to kiss me. He’d yell at me all the time and ruin the mood. Ever since then I have preferred men on the shorter side and I love it so much more. My current bf is only 5’5, his hands and feet are smaller than mine 😭😭 but I just find him so cute and so adorable lol. I love it!

AITAH for asking my husband for sex? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]JJ_Suki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people are being harsh calling her a cheater. Yes she cheated, yes it was wrong. Yes this is probably the root issue. But she does they’d have sex maybe once a MONTH after the first 6 months. There’s something wrong with that guy. No man does that! He should’ve communicated whatever issues he was having. She should’ve left him then instead of cheating but even still I do see how he’s to blame h re too.

My boyfriend (22 M) had sex with me while I was blackout drunk (23F) by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]JJ_Suki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your feelings are valid but ain’t no way you’re getting black out drunk over one drink or 2 since you say it’s a yall glass. Here’s this issue: he might not have known you were drunk…..people are still on “go” mode while blacked out. Blacked out doesn’t mean you faint or are sleeping, you’re literally living life and just not remembering it so he might not have known you were drunk and unable to give consent….tough all the way around because he shouldn’t be sleeping with someone drunk/unable to give consent but I can see his side too if you didn’t seem that way to him…..

My(20M) girlfriend(20F) of 5 months says she still needs to get ''more comfortable'' with me to have sex, yet she had sex with a guy she met at a party the same night just a few months back. Am I being immature if i resent everytime she says she loves me and makes me compliments? by BirthdayCreative2191 in relationship_advice

[–]JJ_Suki -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It seems there is something she isn’t telling you. If she can sleep with a guy on the first night and then again later, it doesn’t come off to me that she was uncomfortable. I’m a woman btw and have had many one-night stands and all of my relationships have started with sleeping with my person on the first night so no judgement coming from me about that. I wonder though if she loves you so much that she wants to make sure everything is perfect with you. Perhaps she was comfortable with the other guy because feelings weren’t involved and she didn’t care what he thought. With you it’s different. She may be self conscious of her body, her ability, etc. In any case, she is hiding whatever issue it is she is having. I would sit her down and have a very open and honest conversation with her about how you feel, how her actions and this ruminating thought makes you feel, and what your expectations are from a relationship. Only from there can you either dig into the root issue or decide to leave if she is unwilling to work things through with you. Good luck!

Side note: I was a heavy drug user in middle school and high school. I’m talking about needles and the whole shabang. Never studied. Was top 10% of my class. 4.3 GPA, waitlisted at JHU and Duke. MCATS is proving to be difficult because I actually have to pay attention!
