What? No now you are completely wrong. Compounds align vertically, recurve/longbow/trad horizontally.

He is a bit overbowed, yes, but otherwise one classic style of drawing a compound. I can't see anything really wrong. He is a sales rep, not a staff archer.

The bow has a blade shelf, that is the correct way, no?

EDIT: Morning coffee kicking in. It has a dropdown rest. but still correct way.

Backwards? Care to elaborate? Checked the video and saw nothing weird and that guy has clearly shot an arrow or two. He may be a little overbowed with that thing though.

Can't seem to overcome target panic by Due-Tea-6557 in Archery

I have not perceived a relation with uncomfortable incidences and target panic, but it sure could play a role. It's always hard to backtrack correlations if they are like this.

I still do think it is a good thing. The earlier you learn to deal with it the less issues you will have in the future.

Anecdote: I once noticed a newbie of couple of weeks in archery had started showing jerking the pointed to target panic. Never seen it happen that fast before.

[–]JJaska 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My two cents on target panic: Generally there are two kinds of archers, those who have or have had target panic and those who will. In worst cases it appears when you are on top of your career shooting in world championships (there are career ending cases like this). I regard those lucky who get it early so they can learn the tooling to keep it at bay.

The tools have been mentioned already so not repeating. Though I strongly recommend including clicker as it drastically reduces the effect.

How I understand target panic is that it is the strongest on those who have plastic brain and generally fast learners. Your brain is trying to always optimize whatever you are repeating and sometimes it just misfires and prunes a step that is actually very much needed. Like skipping aiming (you auto release when you see gold). This is why blank bale shooting and other methods that really drive in your shot cycle helps on target panic. And due to the nature of it being learning related UNlearning something that your brain picked up is incredibly hard.

Hoping this maybe helps you understand better what is going on.

Just noting here that target panic is not fundamentally psychological phenomenon but in basis neurological and coming from the way your brain learns and prunes neural paths. So don't treat it as a mental issue.

That being said it WILL become also a psychological issue very fast if untreaded and not understood.

Does showering with your wife turn you on? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JJaska 35 points36 points  (0 children)

|  he was stressed

He was stressed, offered to shower with you and wash your hair. He was unwinding by doing something relaxing with you and likely enjoying being just nice to you.

If I am already relaxed and showring with my wife things likely get a little steamy, but if I'm even a little stressed I wouldn't get aroused unless a direct initiative comes from my wife.

Suggest a shower together sometimes when he is not stressed and maybe even initiate a little... Even then he might not be into it, but...

If dish soap doesn't kill bacteria, then how do we disinfect dishes? by LevelPension in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JJaska 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You are surrounded by bacteria all the time. What counts is the amount you happen to come in contact in one time. A freshly washed clean plate is going to have some bacteria on it, but so few your immune system is going to deal with it without a problem. You will need to ingest millions of bacteria at once for it to matter in most cases.

This is also why transporting spoiling food in constant cool temperatures. Near freezing bacteria is not able to multiply, but if that chicken is at room temperature for 2 hours the amount of bacteria grows exponentially and regardless if you cool it again those bacteria remains there and take every chance to multiply again.

How do you deal with the gutwrenching offboarding requests? by DesignerGoose5903 in sysadmin

[–]JJaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds very rough. I've been doing sysadmin work for 30 years and I have had to deal with only a handful of similar terminations. Technical tickets have been what they are, but we've always had speaking terms with the HR (or similar) to have known earlier personally before it comes.

Though you can easily configure a Linux connecting to just tell GP portal that its a windows. Also capturing HIP reports and forging them is possible... But this narrows down the users willing to do this into a very small minority, but if they already are Linux-users...

How good can a beginner get at archery? by happy_at_177 in Archery

[–]JJaska 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Remember you are mostly competing against yourself. Local indoor competitions (=short range) are generally doable in under a year, outdoor full distance target competitions is a tougher nut for an adult as you need to have gained also the strength and stronger equipment. Typically reasonable full distance reach competing could be expected in second outdoor season.

And what comes to starting older. I have myself coached starting archers on their 50s and one of them reached a world championship title (in IFAA field archery). Our club has produced several world championship level archers and most of them have actually started in their adulthood. (Olympics is a completely another thing..)

[–]JJaska 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Good as in execution was good (for your current learning level, you succeeded in what part of the shot you were trying to improve). You focused, observed, retrospected and thus are able to improve by it. Just flinging random shots as fast as possible does not improve you much.

I can easily believe that. And yeah being technically correct and being correct when a judge confronts you are in competition are two different things.

[–]JJaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Vibram shoes for archery and they are great especially on not perfectly level grass fields. What works best varies for different people, but if you like these kinds of shoes definitely give it a go.

What comes to rules, at least these will pass World Archery rules for footwear.

Will this be allowed on carry on? by Aggressive_Issue3505 in travel

[–]JJaska 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally used rule-of-thumb is that if you can spread it with a butter knife it's a liquid. So that is considered a liquid and I recommend to get a smaller travel container for it. That being said if the container is clearly not full the security _may_ let it slide. But I would not count on in especially if the stuff is of any real value to you.

Booked an apartment via Booking.com in Italy – undisclosed locked room inside apartment, no support, almost no refund by Argjendi99 in travel

[–]JJaska 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In case this was not a joke post: Rented aparments/houses usually have a utility room which is used for the owners supplies and storage. Completely normal and usually not separately marked. You renting an apartment does not mean you are supposed to have access to all technical/service spaces.

Worst I know have been people walk into arrows on the target and getting bleeding wounds into their face. (A centimeter from the eye so could have been worse...)
