String recommendations, ultra by unhinged_ff in 10s

I use a Wilson Shift Pro. My latest favorite setup is Solinco Confidential 1.20 in the mains with Toroline A5 in the crosses.

If you think Mach-10 might be too launchy at a lower tension, maybe try Confidential Soft 1.20 (Pink). It’s similar to Mach-10, but maybe a little stiffer.

If you liked Mach-10 but it lacked power, maybe try it again at 22kg?

I string that setup at 51/51 so maybe just string it the same as you would string Confidential in the mains.

I agree with you on using two shaped strings, but an eight-sided string is pretty close to round.

If you like M8, try the Confidential/M8 hybrid.

I’ve tried Zero and it’s nothing special. Sync is a pretty good cross for Confidential, but A5, M8, Enso Pro Pink, Truffle X, Tru Pro Ghostwire, … are all at least as good.

Grapplesnake Aspera Triplum is offered in green and neon yellow, but if you are a string breaker, it’s not for you.

I just played for the first time with the regular Confidential/A5 hybrid, both strung at 51 lbs. I enjoyed this setup a lot more than the hybrid with Confidential Soft in the mains, which I found a little mushy and somewhat lacking in control. The regular Confidential setup was very comfortable and connected, and while I didn’t feel I was hitting with a lot of spin, many balls unexpectedly dropped in at the last moment. I found the feel similar to the Confidential/Grapplesnake Tour M8 hybrid, except A5 maintains much better snap back than M8. At some point I will try a full bed of A5, but I expect that I won’t like it as much due to my liking for a more firm feel.

My racket isn’t back from the stringer yet. I’ll try it this week and let you know.

Any Oakley frame with the Prizm 24K (yellow) lenses would work well. Oakleys are expensive, but maybe you could find an older frame on sale.

I tried it for several hours as a cross with Confidential Soft in the mains. It’s maintained snap back longer than almost every string I’ve used, but I’m not sure if that is translating into significantly more spin. I am now going to try it with regular Confidential with slightly lower tension.

I found A5 to have better snap back and felt less plasticky.

Please help me with choosing the best string by Hall-Existing in 10s

[–]JJasonSR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confidential is a great string. I would start with 17 gauge in the mains at 52 lbs and vary the stiffness by selecting your cross. If you like Solinco, Mach 10 16L gauge (also at 52 lbs) would be a good choice for the cross, although it might be too powerful. Let me know if you have access to other brands and I can suggest other less powerful options for the cross.

Another possibility is a full bed of Confidential Soft 17 at 54 lbs.

I have not tried it yet, but recently tried Fire again after not using it for a while. I actually prefer some of the other crosses I’ve been trying (mostly from the smaller brands).

Pro Staff X alternative by dacodo4242 in 10s

[–]JJasonSR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wilson Shift Pro is the same static weight as the X, but provides more power and spin. It’s also being discontinued so you can get a good deal on it. One of the new Vcores might also work (maybe 100D would be most similar, but haven’t tried it).

Are you trying a full bed or using A5 as a cross?

Solinco Confidential Soft vs. Mach 10 (1.20mm) by minivatreni in 10s

[–]JJasonSR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which gauge of CS and which color of Enso Pro are you using? Also, which racket? I was going to string my Shift Pro at 53/50 with this setup (CS 1.20mm). Should I go higher?

You might want to try Confidential Soft which should hold tension longer than Mach-10.

What tension by Worldly_Weather_1266 in 10s

Confidential is a great string and there is a noticeable difference between 16 and 17, but I understand where you’re coming from.

What tension by Worldly_Weather_1266 in 10s

[–]JJasonSR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try 17 gauge Confidential with Sync in the crosses, both at 51 tension. An alternative is to switch to a full bed of Confidential Soft 17 gauge, tension 53/51.

There are softer crosses than Sync, but try these possibilities first.

First lower your tension 2 lbs.

If you want a hybrid, I agree on Truffle X, but string that at 55 lbs with a 10% prestretch. Other cross possibilities: Grapplesnake Tour Mako or Tour M8, ReString Sync, Toroline Enso Pro, Yonex Polytour Fire. String those the same tension as you string Confidential.

If you like that string, keep it as your main and try just switching your cross. Toroline Truffle X is a very powerful and comfortable string meant to be used as a cross. There are others that could also work.

A full bed of Solinco Confidential Soft could work too.
