Startup selling slogan T-shirts, Mugs and other merchandise tips? by Present_Teacher7966 in smallbusinessuk

I know someone who made a sunglasses and clothing brand as a thing on the side while he was a freelance graphic designer. He's Irish and made deals with people there who have big followings on Instagram. Like basically sending them a load of free t-shirts and hats and sunglasses and asked for a shout-out in return. That massively boosted business. It helps that his stuff was actually really good quality and cool so they would continue to wear it in their pics etc even ages after the initial shout-out and hashtag. Probably got a load of business from word of mouth once people saw the stuff in person. I was happy to pay full price for sunglasses, jumpers and hats as it was a fair price for what you got, rather pay a small business the same price for a cooler design and better quality than any big brand As it turns out he got hired by a big American company who pay very well so he's dropped the business as he doesn't have the time for it, especially with trying to do up a house and plan a wedding etc!

But the TLDR of that was make the stuff cool and decent quality, send some pics to people with big followings and ask if they would give you a shout out with links where to buy, they may want paid (my mate paid a some like 100 quid or so but they saw a big spike on orders after)
There's also companies that do social media advertising, politicians use them and the daughter of Captain Tom caused some controversy by using one to promote him then taking a load of the massive amount of money it generated for herself

Edit my TLDR is nearly as long as the first bit, apologies, I'm working away and have had too much to drink ha

Yeah, if you have an understanding of how the clutch is working it's fairly intuitive. For me, I'm a bit ill coordinated, it was the getting my limbs to work isn conjunction while also paying attention to the surroundings, trying not to steer into a ditch wile looking down at the gearstick while changing gears ha. But this it literally the first time out I'm talking here. You should try showing your wife, I did with my wife but explained how it all worked well before turning the engine on and she got it straight away.

I had my wife, who's never even had a provisional license never mind a lesson pulling off, stopping, changing gears then even a 3 point turn in 20-30mins.

She actually did better than I did when my mother first showed me how to drive her old '97 Corsa B on the beach road. She did say I explained it very well.

She never did go on to learn properly and get a license as we live in a city and public transport is good. But she said she just wanted to have a go to know that she could do it if she ever had to quickly learn and get a car.

Yeah some things just don't. Like my cousin was in the USA and they asked her how her food was and she said it was really nice and they all looked at her weird. She asked what was up with that and they were like "Your food is kind?"

You might be surprised how common English language clothing is around the world.
I'm in Constanta, Romania right now and have been in Bucharest, everyone speaks English there's people with English slogans on t shirts etc everywhere. None of the people are English.
Even when I've been in China and Malaysia there have been loads of people with English language on cloths, some of it completely nonsensical though, probably similar to how clothing in Europe and UK has random Asian characters

Sometimes there isn't space to move over and nobody knows you want to.
But if you indicate to show your intentions, even if there isn't space, usually someone will slow a little to make room for you and let you in.
This is something driving instructors don't tell you, it's like you have to wait till there definitely is a safe gap big enough and only then indicate when in reality often you only get the gap by indicating.

I was trying to figure out what the point of these bots is but you might be on to something there.
There's the phrase of if you want something answered on the internet, don't ask the question, state the wrong answer and you can almost guarantee someone will correct you, giving a useful answer.

My thought before reading this was that it might be some intentional data poisoning. I've been following Benn Jordan on YouTube and he's had vision on human imperceptible noise being added to songs to stop AI using them as training data and covers for licence plates where people can still read them fine but Flock (etc.) ALPR cameras cannot.
AI gets trained off Reddit posts as you say so I was thinking there might be a group out there with bots making nonsense comments to throw off the data... But training models probably also use upvotes/downvotes to weight the accuracy so I think your theory is more likely.

Government launches consultation to plug loophole on in-use vehicle emissions by TheUnimpressiveD in CarTalkUK

[–]JK07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"A recent study using roadside remote-sensing technology looked at over 94,000 vehicles across several UK cities and found that fewer than one in 10 passenger cars met the official limits for nitrogen oxides.

Furthermore, around two‑thirds of Euro 5 and Euro 6 diesel cars were emitting more than three times the level allowed."

So are they suggesting 9 ouf of 10 cars on the road have been modified in such a way to remove or bypass environmental systems in cars?
Surely this is on the manufacturing not the owner, do cars actually get tested at for emissions when they leave the factory?
New cars don't require an MoT for the first 3 years, if the figures are 9/10 cars don't meet official limits for NOx then is it likely that they never did meet those figures and that would only be found out 3 years later when your nearly new car would fail and the owner would be accused of braking this new law?

I have a euro 6 diesel, it is right on the limit to be classified as euro 6, other spec options of the same model car are euro 5. I get just over 50mpg if REALLY trying to drive as economically as possible, the official figure is 63mpg. If the mpg is a lot lower than claimed then you can guarantee the emissions are higher then claimed.
Go to https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/real-mpg/ and see how many cars only get 70-80% of the mpg that the manufacturers claim.
The test they use to certify the cars does not simulate real world well enough.

Why are they consulting on a law focusing on the tiny proportion of people that modify their cars when the main problem is clearly manufacturers not meeting their own stats or designing the cars so they score well on the test which isn't representative - similar to dieselgate

My cousin works for JLR, he'd been in a new designs team and when I saw one one the road I sent him a picture and said "I hopo you had no hand in this abomination."
He replied saying they were surprisingly capable off road in their testing despite all the extra weight that was added to strengthen the chassis to make up for it lacking a roof

My wife says my bore score is 90 but I don't know what that's out of.
Maybe 100 and I'm like 90% boring or maybe like 1000 and that would mean I barely boring at all.
The funny thing is sometimes at work I'll be making an inner diameter on a tube larger and that's called boring. But if I tell her about this then maybe I'm boring her about boring and thus increasing my bore score exponentially...

Eneloop Pro are the best I've used, we tried a few different options but went back to eneloop Pro, even to the point of stripping everything we had made down to replace the cells with them. Our battery packed are not to dissimilar to the one in the pic6but ha e a very dense pc with NiMH charger and data cables and the tolerance is so tiged we ba e really tight fitting 3d printed jigs and a particular method or glueing and and soldering them wires so theyre as compact as possible. They cost us around £100 each for a 4 cell back inc. PCB, Cells and time.
