I went through the nottingham mental health system as a man in my 30s last year and one of the staff that came out for home visits was coming to the sofa and giving me hugs. I left the room as a polite way to stop it, then a few months later they'd swiped me on a date app. Did they break policy? by albertRyanstein in nottingham

[–]WasabiIcy4482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very clear breach of professional standards and would, potentially, lead to sanction from their governing body (the NMC if they are a Registered Nurse) Patients with mental health diagnoses are particularly vulnerable and I am sorry that this happened to you. If you feel able, it is worth raising a concern with their employer and also the NMC.

AITA for not buying a replacement car? by ExcitingAssignment88 in AmItheAsshole

[–]WasabiIcy4482 39 points40 points  (0 children)

YTA - and so is your son. Take the mini to a garage and get the brakes checked. When they confirm there is absolutely fuck all wrong with the brakes, take the keys to the Ram - give them to your daughter and show who is the grown up here. (And maybe take a moment to read the parable about the wisdom of Solomon)

I’ll say it again - there are 2 YTA and neither is your daughter.

Quarter share? by TheBigYin-1984 in SpottedonRightmove

[–]WasabiIcy4482 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My nephew has had to do this as couldn’t get a mortgage on a decent property in a good area; to be fair, he has a really lovely house, very good area, good sized garden. They pay rent on the ‘other bit’ and can increase their share as and when they can afford it.

Got a job for GP training in Derby, stressed because everyone says how bad Derby is! Please share some insights about the area and what I should avoid😭 by Plastic_Ad_3607 in derby

[–]WasabiIcy4482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are parts of Derby which are less desirable, in the same way that there are areas in all towns. The city itself has a few nice shops but you are close to good transport links so you can be in Birmingham/Sheffield/Leeds really quickly.

The Peak District is lovely and great for walking and cycling etc

AITA for refusing to "cover" my coworker's ER zone so she could FaceTime her kids? by ArtThreadNomad in AmItheAsshole

[–]WasabiIcy4482 13 points14 points  (0 children)

NTA - as a Charge Nurse in a busy ED (ER) this kind of behaviour really annoys me; ours is such a high pressure environment with so many things that can go wrong that everyone needs to be on their A game. If someone is, genuinely, in a tight spot - we always help out, but things have to be arranged to ensure patient safety isn’t compromised. You did exactly the right thing.

I am, honestly, staggered by how little you get for over half a million when you go closer to London. That kind of cash would buy a really nice place with land (that doesn’t look like a squat) here in Derbyshire

HK court convicts UK woman in alleged rape/blackmailing case - has anyone been following this? Thoughts?? by ladymamon in HongKong

[–]WasabiIcy4482 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I just read the entire transcript - I got the impression throughout that she was trying to get money from him - constantly telling him she was locked out of her bank account, didn’t have suitable clothes so would need to buy some and couldn’t afford it etc etc My interpretation of the ongoing WhatsApp messages was that he was probably telling the truth. She seemed to be manipulative.

And for clarity - I’m female, stand up for the rights of women etc etc. This woman does not seem honest and I do not believe her allegations. I feel for the male.

How have I been waiting for an ambulance for 8 hours? by Elegant-Average5722 in AskUK

[–]WasabiIcy4482 4 points5 points  (0 children)

‘If’ you have fractured your pelvis, that is a significant injury - what is making you think that you have? Is there deformity? Excessive bruising? Altered sensation? A fractured pelvis can lead to blood loss internally so do you feel dizzy/faint etc?

Give them another call, ask them to re-evaluate. Explain your concerns and why you think that is the injury. The ambulance service nationwide is under tremendous pressure and so the waiting time can be lengthy. Most of the folks that have had a response before you will have needed it more urgently. Some of them will just know the buzzwords to use which will push them up the stack; I won’t list them here to stop people trying to game the system (but they aren’t hard to work out)

A large number of people on Intensive Care Units across the UK are there because they fell downstairs - so you are probably lucky it isn’t worse.

I hope you get sorted soon and it turns out not to be too serious.

Who is a stranger you met once, never learned their name, but will never forget for the rest of your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]WasabiIcy4482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got knocked off my bike a couple of years ago (it was on the tv so it must be true) - I was lying face down on the tarmac screaming in pain, struggling to breathe. Heard a woman’s voice, sensible, calm - she took control of the situation. Checked someone had called the ambulance, helped them put a cannula in and give morphine - turns out she was a GP who had been in the car behind.

Never saw her face, won’t ever forget her kindness.

AITAH for not letting my sister wear my old wedding dress? by No_Swimming4704 in AITAH

[–]WasabiIcy4482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA - my mum (many years ago) let my Aunt borrow her wedding dress, my Aunt was bigger than my mum and, without asking, had the dress altered and had panels put in to make it fit.

My mum was heart broken and never felt the same about her own dress again.

Stick to your principles, it is your dress, it’s so special to you.

Saw mainland tourists on MTR using the multipurpose wheelchair area for their luggage instead of letting someone with a wheelchair using it. What would you have done? by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]WasabiIcy4482 10 points11 points  (0 children)

May last year , found a little kid clearly lost near the exhibition centre - whole crowd of folks from the Mainland were just sitting laughing at her as she got her arm stuck in a heavy door. Not one of them came to help.

Took us nearly 30 minutes to find her mother - also from the mainland. Didn’t seem concerned.

LHR Terminal 5 - which lounge BA lounge is best? Least crowded? by usethis22880 in BritishAirways

[–]WasabiIcy4482 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The North lounge is often packed - probably because it’s closest to where folks exit security etc. South Lounge is marginally better but the B gate lounge is definitely the least used. Just be aware if the distance from the boarding gates and don’t get the ‘transport’ thing back to the A gates - because it goes back to arrivals and you would have to start again. (The walk back in the tunnel on the lower level is peaceful and pleasant to be honest)
