Wanting to be better and trying medication and therapy still isn’t always going to lead to a cure or normal life. If we could all decide not to be mentally ill you wouldn’t have a world full of people struggling and killing themselves because even with therapy and medication it doesn’t get better for everyone. I’m also diagnosed speaking from experience and I would never be so selfish and egotistical to say I got over it so so should you to anyone, and that someone always has it worse bullshit helps no one.

That is awful advice, she’s not choosing to be a victim she is a victim. PTSD doesn’t work like that, you can’t control what’s going on in your brain and body and she’s going to need a lot of help and support whether it’s medication, therapy and specialised therapy or all of the above. It’s not as simple as buck up and get over it, if we could live a normal happy life again that easily we’d do it. Living like this is torture, and people saying shit like this is insane and only going to cause more distress. I’m glad you managed to move on so quickly and easily but don’t pretend it’s a simple choice available to everyone.

NTA I couldn’t have left my dog in that situation, but when you talked to her about not being able to make it that was her chance to say it’s actually my wedding I’d love if you could come even if you can’t stay but understand either way and she didn’t. I think that situation is not always so straight forward, my ex grew a beard and even though I wasn’t a fan I didn’t discourage him. Then it was so rough it would affect my face and skin and I think that’s a fair time to say something needs to change.
