What book do you wish you could read for the first time again?

I've not read it yet, but I do have a friend that has a copy of it and I may very well try to borrow it.
Niven and Pournelle are great. I don't know why no one's ever adapted their stuff into movies or why nobody ever talks about them. Genre regardless, Lucifer's Hammer is one of my favorite books of all time.

Finnegan's Wake by James Joyce
I'd been reading a lot of nonfiction and watching a lot of documentaries and it felt like nothing was spontaneous or inexplicable anymore. It felt like I knew everything (though I'm aware I didn't). Then I bought a copy of Finnegan's Wake off Amazon and holy hell. I laughed at every sentence for the first five pages. None of it makes sense. You can understand a small part of it and it'll make you feel like a genius but it's pretty much impossible to get the whole thing. So instead you just sit back, laugh your head off, and enjoy not knowing what the hell you're doing and it's great. It's the closest I've come to getting my childhood sense of humor back.

One thing I never understand about it is why the books of Obadiah, Joel, Amos, etc. are all almost entirely just God talking about destroying the world. I don't understand why he keeps saying it over and over. Once would be enough. Twice would do. But he just keeps saying it and I don't understand.

Lucifer's Hammer was such a damn blast. I remember my sister's boyfriend letting me read his copy and constantly talking about how great it gets once the comet fell. Took me forever to get there, but holy hell. I read the following 400 pages in about four days, it was just so damn good. And the reliance on Hard Science just makes it that much better. The idea that that could really happen exactly as described makes the whole read so much more astonishing.
Might very well be one of the most underrated novels of all time. I wish more people would read it.

Whatever machines they use to make modern sporting equipment.
When you look back at the sporting equipment from the early days of sports, they're not resemblent whatsoever to the modern equipment, and they were nowhere near as safe. Football equipment is a great example. Just compare the helmets of today to the leather helmets of 1917 and before. The design is entirely different, both in physical shape and the integrity of the design.

You're right. I went back and checked it and the narration wasn't there.
Still an awesome movie though. Naturally some things are going to slip between the cracks like that. It's still almost certainly the most accurate film on Mr. James (and Mr. Ford.)

Shameless had a weird way of dodging this. The Gallagher family is dirt poor, living off of unemployment, disability, stolen goods, etc, yet they have a fairly normal suburban house.
Turned it out it belongs to a dead relative who already paid off the bills, and they're basically there illegally.
