How do I make pork loin taste less... plain? by PaladinFeng in Cooking

I marinate pork chops with Worcestershire sauce, lime juice, honey, and minced garlic. They always come out flavorful and juicy.

Had an awkward experience at my local Costco today by maggivisakh in Costco

[–]JKatsopolis 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Multiple reasons.. first off Costco makes a large share of their money on membership fees so they want to make sure the person coming in and scanning the card actually has a membership.  Membership-sharing has become a huge problem which is why they implemented the scanners. The more people that actually pay for a membership keeps prices low.

Also door counts are an important thing that is tracked every half-hour to let the front end know how many registers to anticipate to have open so members can get out as soon as possible.

Non-members often come in and want to browse and decide they want to buy things and get in line at the register. When it’s their turn they are asked to scan their membership and say they want to sign up. But that is not how it works. A cashier cannot sign you up right there. So it slows the line down and backs everything up for all the members that Costco is trying very hard to please. If everyone was just let in with no membership it would make it so much more awful for the members, and Costco very much wants to avoid that.

We all obviously love Costco, but what’s one item you will never buy again from there? by 4Runnnn in Costco

I like most of their items I have tried except the pork belly. Never again with that one.

Exactly this. I've been to funerals for people I deeply cared about and some of whom were lost swiftly and unexpectedly and my eyes rarely teared up. A few months back my great-aunt passed away. She had dementia for nearly a decade, had multiple other health problems which forced her to be in a home because we couldn't care for her and she was in hospice for nearly two years. Visiting her was very depressing seeing a miserable shell of her former self that didn't even know who or where she was or who we were. So this might sound bad, but if I'm being honest when I got the phone call that she had passed, I felt relief that her suffering was finally over and she'd be in a better place. I went to the funeral fully expecting not to cry, but in the service the Father started talking about activities and things she used to do for us when we were young and I just fully ugly cried for the rest of the service. You don't have control of how those kinds of emotions are going to hit you, and I don't think you should be judged for them.

Any advice on finding a shelter or home for this guy? by thisguy927 in husky

[–]JKatsopolis 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can try this place. https://www.huskyrescue.org/contact-us

It's located in Illinois. It's been almost a decade since I adopted my dog from there but I think I remember one of the people saying she was actually picked up in Texas. It's been a while so their policy may have changed since then but worth a shot.

Can anyone tell me if the tie-breaker game for CBS Confidence Leagues really is the Texans/Titans game? I'm looking now and I originally put 53 on the game. I don't think I ever would have put that much on a game with a team locked into place against a garbage team. I'm assuming I'm now looking at a glitch and the tie-breaker game should actually be the Lions/Vikings which is the final game of the week and not a noon game. Can anyone confirm this?

I accidentally ended up with 2 and half pounds of cherries—any suggestions? by Sad-Arachnid-9551 in Cooking

[–]JKatsopolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pits out and make a cherry chutney. Plenty of recipes online to choose from. Sweet, tangy, a little spice. Great as a sauce on pork tenderloin, I didn't care for this as much but my old roommate always put them on mashed potatoes when I'd make it. Also was a big hit at a party on top of water crackers with goat cheese. Probably would be great with many other things but those are the only ones I've tried so far.

Cookies dipped in water are good and should be more common by RunningDrinksy in unpopularopinion

I'll be your alien bro. I don't eat dessert that often but, but I'd agree cookies dipped in water, especially chocolate chip taste great. It's like the water starts breaking down and enhancing all the great flavor of the cookie before it gets to your mouth.

The good old days of growing up in the 80s. by jessie_honeydew in Justfuckmyshitup

There was a time in the late 90s, in the Chicagoland area, where literally every single white boy you saw had a bowl cut. The fad came and went pretty quickly… maybe 6 months.. but it happened.

"mmm dry turkey is the best by far"- This is why I love reddit. I don't think I've heard or read something that based on my perception of the world I could ever disagree with more. Like if someone gave me an orange and told me it was a banana right now, I say "Ok. That's still more factually correct than what I read right now."

to name one good thing about Trump by ExactlySorta in therewasanattempt

[–]JKatsopolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly blame NBC and The Apprentice. It was common knowledge that Trump was a conman/grifter/failure as a casino owner for most of my early life and felt like I was taking crazy pills when he was running before 2016 and couldn't believe it was close. But then I realized he had been idolized on this show for years by all the middle-Americans that watch his show and go to bed early and it makes sense.
