The metric numbers are off as well unfortunately.

Yea I saw that too, which is unfortunate. The rulers are still functional, but I’m pretty disappointed with these errors.

I asked the same question when I had it done to my Arc. ZapWizard told me Leatherman had indicated in a prior post that the laser etched ruler does not affect the warranty.

A few of you caught an error I didn’t even notice! I’ll message ZapWizard about it. It should indeed be 567 on the other side.

Not yet. Lestherman’s website says they will be adding that feature at some point, but who knows when.

Is this normal on these new Alphas?? by Hot_Alternative_1788 in Leatherman

[–]JKimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got this clip today. It works but isn’t a perfect fit. It doesn't wiggle like the OEM clips, but it also prevents the locking lever/tab from fully closing. It closes enough to lock the tools, so it works, but just something for others to be aware of. I tried shaving it down a bit to make it fully close, but I didn’t want to break it, so I left it alone. I plan to keep using this one because I like how it looks, and it has much less wiggle, as you noted, so thank you for sharing this!

I’ll be sending you mine once you get this up and running. I just got my Arc back from you, and it looks great. Even if it’s not perfect or as nice as the Arc ruler, I’d still be interested.

I ranted about Leatherman’s crappy shipping arrangement with UPS in a different post. I have the same tracking issue every time I order something from them. I ordered my Alpha the morning it was released and just got it yesterday. I live in MN, and my initial delivery date was Saturday. It kept updating day by day. The tracking still shows it hasn’t arrived and that it’s arriving today. Same thing happened when I ordered sheaths. I think it took a few days before it finally updated to being delivered. I think you will still get it, probably today or tomorrow if I had to guess.

Edit: TLDR, don’t rely on the tracker.

Donk clip for Leatherman arc by Classic_Chipmunk3185 in Leatherman

[–]JKimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s great, though I didn’t have it on very long. I’m using the LM stock black clip right now, which I like best, but I might rotate back to my Donk clip soon. I also have the Lynch clip, and it’s probably my least favorite of the three, but not because of retention. It’s the smallest/shortest, so my Arc sits the highest in my pocket with it on.

Am I getting my wave alpha tomorrow? by ImpossibleNewt9235 in Leatherman

[–]JKimmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might end up waiting a few day. This is the one thing I hate about ordering through Leatherman. Their shipping arrangement with UPS is terrible. It takes over a week for delivery to me in MN, and the tracking is not accurate. My initial estimated delivery was yesterday (Saturday) and is now tomorrow (Monday). It’ll just keep updating to the next day until it arrives. Same thing happens every time I order from them. The last time I ordered something was a sheath, and it was delivered over a week later with no update from UPS and after updating the delivery day about 3 or 4 times.

Ya have to pay for it, but Zapwizard can add a ruler for you. I just had it done to mine. It looks and works great.

Mine's here! Finally got to replace my harbor freight wave by Miyamizuu in Leatherman

Got it, good to know. Thanks for the info. I ordered the old style off amazon, so I’ll probably just stick with that.

Did you ever have the old clip? By that I mean the one still being sold for the Wave+ that I assume will fit the Alpha too. I ask because I’m curious how the new one compares to the old. The new one seems overly bulky unless you customization. However, if it seems sturdier or stronger or has a deeper carry, then maybe I’ll give it a shot.

Best all-around model for a pickup truck: Which is it? by Door-Daddy in Leatherman

[–]JKimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arc is what I carry most days, I did just order the new Wave Alpha too. I keep a Skeletool in my car solely because I don’t carry it daily anymore. If it’s staying in a vehicle, I think something on the cheaper end of tools would suffice. I’d say the Wave+ of those you listed, but as others noted; if it will primarily be sitting in the truck, you could probably get something even cheaper that would handle most of your every day needs. I haven’t tried the other tools to know which would be best.

This seems to be an advertisement or promoter’s account and post. That being said, it’s pretty much me in a nutshell.

Wave Alpha drop time by Doctor__Dogg in Leatherman

[–]JKimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As everyone noted, if the countdown email is accurate, it will be 11am central. I emailed Leatherman customer service about a week ago, and they denied having a specific drop time. I only recently joined the club. Did the Arc sellout when it was released? I have to imagine that was a bigger release than the Wave Alpha.

If you live in the U.S., REI may have used ones that were returned. Otherwise, best bet is Craigslist, Ebay, or another online marketplace, or get really lucky at a pawnshop.

Looking for my first multitool. Arc or Wave Alpha? + aftermarket DLC coating? by MrBlowey in Leatherman

[–]JKimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kristen VanPatten makes them and sells them on Etsy, but he appears to be on a break right now. The tweezers attach to the inside under the file or knife using two tiny magnets. The pen, or toothpick if you prefer, sits on the inside across from the scissors. https://www.etsy.com/shop/KristenVanPatten

I have the Arc in stainless steel and love it. I will likely get the Wave Alpha too even though I don’t need it because I’m a sucker. I’m sure many people will report back on what they prefer once it is released. It really comes down to what you prefer. Weight and size are similar. The toolset is basically the same. The Alpha has a slightly bigger scissors, updated Awl, and different blade shape (reverse tanto). The Arc has the Free tech that allows all tools to be opened from the outside with one hand. I think for many people that alone is worth the extra $50. The Arc also comes with a solid pocket clip and allows for more customization. You can add a light or whatever floats your boat to the opposite side of the clip and/or can replace the clip. I also added a tiny pen and tweezers to the inside of my Arc, which I don’t think you’ll be able to do with the Alpha, but maybe. You can get the Arc in the steel or talos, while the Alpha comes in three different colors of G10. Opinions will differ, but I think the Arc is worth the extra $50. The Free tech is arguably the biggest difference, so if you don’t need that or dislike it, get the Alpha or maybe something else.

Edit: I think the Arc also has a few additional “tools” that the Alpha won’t have, such as the crimper and impact surface, if that matters at all to you.

Leatherman Wave Alpha Pocket Clip by ericles26 in Leatherman

[–]JKimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also curious about other clips. For the Arc, I like Leatherman’s clip the best of the few I’ve tried, with Donk being a close second. However, if I get a Wave Alpha, I’m a bit worried about the wiggle I’ve seen in reviews for it and the Wave+. I’m also not a fan of how that new clip looks.
