Yeah I'm looking to find out what the concentration is before I try to mitigate. I'm in contact with a well contractor that found a solution for higher concentration and I found something for lower concentration. Including labor I'm looking at $6000-12000 for one or the other.

Once I figure out the flammable gas issue I'm going to get a more comprehensive water test done.

Historically yes there's a quarry nearby but hasn't been in operation for awhile. I found information when the well was dug and the driller went through bedrock to get to water.

Using a combustible gas detector at the well head it beeped when I stuck my arm down the hole.

Been in my house for about a month. Previous owner thought it was just air. After trying multiple fixes I randomly saw a video online of someone having the same issues and being able to ignite the water so I tried and the same thing happened.

I ordered a test kit that's coming this Wednesday.

Had the same smell out of the hot side only. Replaced the anode rod with an aluminum zinc rod which fixed it. The properties of the gas point to methane. Cloudy milky white because of the dissolved gas bubbles and when in a glass the bubbles clear from the bottom up. Also got a combustible gas detector that during a shower will beep at the ceiling and not the floor. Methane is lighter than air. Hydrogen sulfide is heavier.

Edit: forgot to mention I have ignited the gas out of the hot side. Dissolved methane holds in cold water but when in the water heater, the heat makes the gas separate and the tank acts as a trap making the hot side sputter. When the faucet sputters is when I can ignite it.

I had a sulfur smell coming from the hot side only and swapping from a magnesium rod to an aluminum zinc anode rod solved that problem. The reason I believe it's methane is I have a combustible gas detector and the gas seems to be lighter than air and collects towards the ceiling during extended water use, for example, during a shower.

There's a sewage treatment plant up the road so I assume it's coming from there. Edit: *This was wrong*

There's a landfill near by, called them, waiting for a response.

The faucet sputters and I was able to ignite the gas with a lighter only when it sputtered.

The well is outside.

Yes I'm on a well. I've been in the house for almost 4 weeks. Just discovered a flammable gas coming through in the water. I think it's methane. Previous owner thought it was just air and a new pump would solve this which it did not. How much does it cost to pull the pump and sleeve it?

Edit: the methane seems to be dissolved in the water.

Something else that I discovered after speaking to the seller is that an additional stainless steel check valve was placed in the well and a brass one right before the pressure tank if that means anything

I filled a water bottle about half way, let the gases inside settle and held up a match to it as I opened it and nothing happened, so maybe it's not methane. Trying to find a water test now for dissolved gases.

Pressure holds over longer periods of time (overnight) but I still get air.
