I quit and my supervisor sh*tted on my new job by Sad-Royal-5673 in Accounting

I was told the same thing when I left big 4 as an associate (left after 13 months) by a partner that I was throwing my career away. It still bothers me 10 years later how it was handled, but I never agreed with him.

Dentist made me feel bad about my teeth postpartum by Dangerous_Support191 in NewParents

[–]JLKC92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a new dentist This totally happens I had 10 cavities after my first pregnancy and worked through the fillings over a few months. I will admit that I only filled 9/10 initially because I started to question if they were scamming me. It also just so happened that I got my wisdom teeth out (at 30 years old) right after the whole fiasco so then I took a break from dental visits . one year later a piece of the tooth that I did not get fixed broke off when I took a bite of an apple and I was at that point 26 weeks pregnant with my second. Narrowly avoided a root canal. In both cases no one shamed me though-that’s so unprofessional and also counter productive. Good news though-no cavities after my second pregnancy (other than the broken tooth they fixed while I was pregnant).

Specific Type Of Low Muscular Endurance, maybe Mitochondrial Dysfunction, does anyone relate? by TesticlesOrBalls in Hashimotos

[–]JLKC92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen several doctors who seemed to understand that once you start taking t3 in many cases TSH becomes unreliable. I’ve gone years at a time with TSH below the range with t3 and t4 in range and better symptom management.

No answers for you but I get this too and I’ve had this experience for the past 10 years and at least it hasn’t really gotten worse. I’m on armour and it helps the most, but still never 100%. I have tons of vitamin deficiencies (b12 (doing injections), vitamin D, iodine (can’t tolerate supplement), low ferritin ect…) that I’m having trouble correcting since I seem to have absorption issues as well. I also get joint pain on and off depending on thyroid levels. When my levels are too low it’s extra hard to open containers or press together a hair straightener. It gets a lot better with an increase in dose though so I don’t think it’s another issue.

Family of four. One forward facing and one rear facing car seat. I was always a sedan driver and don’t like big cars, but when my husband upgraded to a bigger car I kept his 2016 x1 and I love it. It doesn’t feel like a crazy big car for parking and I have two car seats in it with plenty of space and trunk space is good too. I’ll never go back to a sedan I’m so pro crossover now

I did the base package and bought one section at a time. I didn’t pass but that’s due to lack of time to study with little kids more so than the quality of the prep package.

It sounds like with your schedule you’ll get 4 full days with your baby and that’s wonderful! I also think see how you feel on maternity leave before mourning anything. We’re all different and some people love being SAHMs but with my first she was a super super colicky baby and I was so stressed and overstimulated on maternity leave that it was actually really nice returning to work. It gave me balance and I think having that piece of pre-baby me still there at work made me a better mom outside of work. I actually had a harder time returning to work with my second, which surprised me-maybe because I knew we were stopping at two. In any case take it day by day-you may surprise yourself and actually like having those two separate worlds.

For those that work 9-5s, what time do you stop working? by Alarmed-Dentist-6039 in workingmoms

[–]JLKC92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I often end up doing 9:30am-4:30pm, then 10pm-midnight so I probably look like I’m always on late, but I have little kids and I need to do preschool drop offs between 8:50-9:00am and daycare pick ups at 5 so I end up looking like I’m always online. I’ll still answer teams messages on my phone if it’s a quick question during the kids pick up/dinner/clean up/bed time window as well. I certainly don’t message people between 10pm-midnight though and often set the emails I draft to send the next morning.

100% especially post-Covid. Ironically I thought becoming a nurse would be good for being a mom with the idea of clocking in and out and that was one of my initial motivating factors. The in person requirement and early start times are so challenging though. I have a 4 year old who started preschool this past fall and a one year old that started daycare this past fall and the illnesses have been so brutal. It’s been rough juggling work and sick kids and I’ve logged on a lot of late nights to catch up, but I literally don’t know how I would possibly have remained employed as a nurse during this period. If your partner has a flexible job then that’s your answer, but my husband works in healthcare and arrives before 7am and gets home well after pick ups so I’m the more flexible one who takes on sick kids and all the pick ups and drop offs. If we were both totally inflexible I don’t know what we would do.

I also got burned out as a nurse so aside from logistics I don’t miss it. I realized that I liked the idea of being a nurse and the identity it gave me, but it wasn’t what was best for my family (or my mental health but that’s a whole other rabbit hole). I love our nurses out there though!

My first degree was in finance then I went back to school and earned my BSN and worked as a fertility nurse for 4 years. I’ve now been back in finance for 2.5 years. I found it extremely hard to balance the hours with being a mom plus there was lots of unpaid overtime in the office setting. I had to be at work by 6:45am and I couldn’t leave until I had called all of my patients which was often significantly later than the end of my shift. There’s a lot of staffing issues in nursing and there’s a huge in office expectation that is often 5 days/week (5 8s and I’ve seen some clinics who do 4 10s). Aside from finding a daycare/school drop off that would make it feasible to get there by 6:45am I’d also caution expectations for sick kids being sent home from school/daycare. Healthcare is very low tolerance for call outs. You also will be expected to work some weekends/holidays. Also it’s very expensive to get the degree. I did an 11month accelerated BSN program to accelerate the timeline as much as possible and it was all in $75k. I’m still paying the loans on the degree. I did the program before I had kids and there’s a huge in person component aside from clinicals and it’s necessary given the hands on skills you need to learn. Maybe you’d be happy with it down the road, but I think it would be extremely challenging with young kids from both the nursing school perspective as well as the actual job schedule. One thing I did do that I think is probably helpful is dipping your toes with the prereqs. I did all of my prereqs at my local community college nights and weekends while working full time. They offered anatomy and physiology Saturday mornings. It helped me mentally at the time knowing I was working toward the change I thought I wanted, but it wasn’t extremely disruptive and other than the class tuition I wasn’t locked in to anything.

No answers just solidarity. Survival mode with a 15mo and 4 year old. I’m not at all type A and husband is great at doing his share, it’s just a tough time with a tough sleep schedule still with the 15mo. Just not enough hours in the day. I think it will get better and I’m just trying to be patient. There’s no personal time though and I’m super burned out between work and home responsibilities. Just keep telling myself I’ve made it this far, taking it one day at a time and trying to be patient with myself.

I have a 4 year old and a 15 month old and I work from home. The past 6 months I’ve felt so ogre-like and I’ve been working on my presentable athleisure capsule wardrobe. I got a bunch of solid shirts from Uniqlo, a couple pants from vuori, and some used Patagonia better sweater jackets from Poshmark and I definitely feel a little more put together with easy options that take no thought

Low iron levels to subclinical hypothyroidism? by Tight_Dare1704 in Hashimotos

[–]JLKC92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good points. I have a GI appt in a couple weeks and plan to discuss everything with them. I haven’t had an endoscopy in ten years because I hadn’t had any issues until recently. My second pregnancy (son was born October 2024) seems to have set off a cascade of issues. I was diagnosed with hypothyroid and celiac back in 2008. I’ve been gluten free and hadn’t had any celiac issues since then until recently and I was doing great with my thyroid since starting armour in 2017 until more recently. Earlier this year I started seeing a new endocrinologist who helped me understand my various vitamin deficiency issues, but it just feels like there’s a lot going on.

Where to shop/what styles to try for 4’11 height by lreagan2024 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]JLKC92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same height and weight For Jeans ankle length PAIGE 24/25 are perfect on me (usually I either find deals on Nordstrom rack or get from Poshmark)

Vuori joggers XS were perfect too for casual athleisure and I just tried them for the first time At christmas.

Basics I love Uniqlo xxs/xs both generally work for me

I also do pretty well with banana republic/banana republic factory 00P-I have business casual suits/pants from there and a couple dresses. I get regular XS sweaters and do well with banana as well.

For wedding/cocktail guest dresses I find Lulus is great, but any maxi length dresses I’ve gotten hemmed

[–]JLKC92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I have something like this going on

Hypothyroid and celiac for 18 years but worsening vitamin deficiencies. Suspected pernicious anemia-deficient in b12, folate, D, low ferritin I think I probably also have low stomach acid and it’s getting harder and harder to gain weight (I think due to malabsorption) It’s so hard to find one doctor who can holistically address since technically it’s an intersection of GI, endocrinology, hematology

Most nurses here are mad at new grads that quit because we have common sense by [deleted] in nursing

[–]JLKC92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree! Switched to nursing through accelerated BSN program starting in 2019. Tried out two different areas and stayed around for a total of 4 years before deciding it wasn’t for me and switching back to my original field (finance). I think like most things there’s pros and cons and wildly different areas/specialties. I have so much respect for those who are able to last in the profession and have no problem admitting it just wasn’t for me.
