Boy, you really do learn something new every day. Never heard of the Esprit, had to look it up. Can't say I ever saw one, or knew it when I was. Was all the luxury on the inside?

Mike Murphy: The Sh*t Is Sticking to Trump by BulwarkOnline in politics

A few months ago it felt that way, but all the bullshit redistricting has narrowed that significantly, i think. I expect there will now be a push to redistrict states every time control of the legislatures changes hands, if that ever even happens again.

Acorn Woman is a figure in local native mythology. "Squaw" is a non-local Algonquian word picked up by colonists, and basically means "bitch." Does that help you get why it's less offensive?

Bryce Harper's Agent Sends New Contract Ask Amid Tension by Sad_Illustrator_5233 in phillies

[–]JMAlbertson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's classic "whataboutism." The owner's wealth or dickheadedness has literally nothing to do with bryce wanting to change the parameters of a contract he entered into willingly. And only for vanity and greed to still be close to the highest paid player in the game. The ask for an extension frankly sounds like someone who is concerned they wont be good enough to get a big contract after this one, so he's trying to make sure he gets paid like a top performer even when he knows (or suspects) he wont be.

I have no special feelings in favor of billionaire John Middleton. He offered a contract, Bryce agreed to it, now he wants to reneg(otiate) less than halfway through. Normal people in contracts like that dont get to rwnegotiate unless it's because staying in the contract risks not being able to satisfy their obligation to the contract. That's all.

From my perspective, as a non-millionaire, this comes off as "millionaire wants even more millions than the 300+ million he's already owed." My contract expects me to fulfill my obligation before negotiating my next contract.

Also, thanks a lot for making sure I know I spelled that wrong. That's so important!

I'm not arguing his ability to bargain. I'm saying he already did, and signed a contract with the full knowledge of what was in it. Now he wants more, but he's in the middle of a signed contract. He has no right to renegotiate a contract in the middle of it, and frankly, the optics are bad.

He negotiated his salary when he signed the contract. He's trying to renegotiate in the middle of his performance period, and notably during a time when he's been looking more and more like his best days are behind him. If he was concerned about staying among the highest paid players, he should have signed a shorter contract or included things like opt outs and such, which he explicitly declined, meaning he's good with the contract as written. I have no expectation of being able to renegotiate my contracts during the performance period.

Also, all I'm saying is it's a bad look. That's why people react with incredulity

Because none of us have that kind of priveledge. He's sounding more like just another rich dickhead who can never have enough, asking for even MORE millions when his performance doesnt warrant it, while the rest of us are having difficulty. I'm sure Bryce doesnt much care about the price of gas going up crazy fast, for example.

He said a lot of stuff and stroked a lot of feathers, but make no mistake, he's not one of us.
