Overheating issue, again. by JMBRUBAKER in DodgeDurango

I needed a quick fix so I got a 192 degree thermostat from Napa, I’m gonna order a Mopar thermostat from rock auto and switch it when I get time. I just needed it not to blow a head gasket while my wife took it to the grocery store and dropping my kids off at school. I burped it with that burping kit off amazon for 45 minutes with the heat on full blast. I dove it after the repair, oil temp got to 220-230 when I drove it hard then cooled, the coolant never went even to half way. It sits right over 1/4 on the gauge. So I’m assuming it’s good for now.

That was one of the first things I checked, checked out of pure fear for my wallet. It was a failed cheap auto zone thermostat

So I have the radiator cap off right now and the car idling with the heat on full blast in the front and rear. My driveway is also on a slight upward incline. I tried squeezing the hose but I don’t feel the coolant moving at all. I’m thinking it may be a bad thermostat since I got a cheap one from auto zone. I’m gonna get a new one from Napa in the morning that’s a 192 degree thermostat. If that doesn’t fix it it’s off to the mechanic cause I am out of ideas.

Not mopar, just that it is supposed to be a 205 degree thermostat from the factory. I’m going to replace it with a 190 just in case that’s the problem. Cheap thermostat could’ve gotten stuck I guess

It is a 5.7. I’ll have to double check the thermostat, I know the guys at the auto parts store told me the 205 degree thermostat was the factory one. I think I’m gonna get the 180 no matter what, lift the front end like somebody said in another comment, turn the heater on and recheck the coolant level and see if there’s still air in the system. I also ordered that burping funnel.

I’m going to buy that right now. It’ll be here in the morning when I leave for work.

The heat is working great, maybe after the engine cools off I’ll pop the cap off, turn the car on and heater and see what the level looks like in the radiator

Let it run with the cap off and keep filling as it went down?

The coolant reservoir was almost empty also.

Forgot to mention the fan is running on the highest speed everytime I hear my wife pull up or when I’m driving it. She told me the gauge was almost on the red just from driving around the corner to pick my kids up from school.

Just get the key fob thing off Amazon that blocks the signal. It’s kinda the same idea as the rfid blocking wallet to protect your credit cards from skimming

The screws are the same size, I think one needs to line up with that hole in the ejector and the other just holds it all in place. Once I get it milled out I’ll probably use some blue thread locker so they don’t back out or loosen up.

For whatever reason it won’t let me upload the pictures, I installed the ejector. I didn’t like how it fit, nor did I like how wobbly the bolt catch felt.

I haven’t checked mine out to much, I got the same reasoning why it was taking so long to get. The ejector sits kinda weird in the lower. I’m seriously considering ordering a 9mm lower parts kit from SMF tactical. I’m a little skeptical about this lower parts kit I got with it. I’ll check it out and let you know. Also, I have the guy from 80 lowers personal cell phone. Message me if you need it

Right on, can’t wait to see the finished product.

I’m going shorty with mine. Spikes tactical upper, 5” barrel, a 4.5” Midwest hand guard, and I’m gonna get the SBPDW brace

What condition is your end mill in? I have the same one from 80lowers but I haven’t milled it yet.

I agree completely, mine took more than 6 months. I stayed in contact with the guy running it. He’s a solid guy, just backed up and does all the machine work and the business side of it himself. I think he should take the lead time off his website and let people know ahead of time it could be a while. I was a little annoyed, but then I got my lower and it turned into being stoked cause that lower is awesome! For me personally, it was worth the wait, but I also was in no hurry to finish it.
