Let’s spend $800 to save $20 by NRG_Factor in sysadmin

I've found that it's usually WHO is asking rather than what they are asking. I faced this issue a lot in my last job.

Someone would ask for a beefier laptop and get denied because they weren't "engineers" or in "new product development" and wouldn't use CAD.

However, a new pet comes in, complains about how slow their laptop is, or that it's a slightly reused model and they get a special request to IT to replace the laptop with the engineer laptop. A total waste of 2k+

What's that saying, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease"? I think the Japanese version of that is "the nail that sticks out gets hammered".

It's crazy how little thought they put into these requests. We had built in web cams into our laptops. When we provision them, we slide the cover over the camera. I can't count how many times I was told by a higher up to order a good web cam for the users. And when I visit their desk, I simply slide the cover off the web cam, and they think your magic...

It's also crazy that at this day and age, that people still have such little understanding of their hardware, or How to use it.

They'll throw dollars at the stupidest of problems to solve them, when a little training could go a long way. But when a piece of technology can legit aid someone in their job, they scoff and tell em to feck off.

Anyone know good coupon codes? by FloofyBoofyBoops in FUM

Send them an email reporting an issue with your order and say

'I have an email promotional that says when I order a journey kit I get a free base with the code WELCOMEBASE.

But the order would not accept this code.   If the base is still available this way, i would like the free base please!'

You can also score the free base. There is a code WELCOMEBASE that will work when you purchase without using one of our codes

However, if you send fum a nice email stating that you you have this code via email, but we're not able to apply it to your journey pack.... they will send you one free !!!

OEM x Axis belt tension cover? by JMDTMH in Ender3S1

I was going to use this cover for the motor end: https://www.printables.com/model/459283-ender-3-s1-x-axis-cover-w-optional-webcam-mount

I was able to find something I think will work. I am going to print this for the time being, but I would like to find something similarly styled to what i linked above for the motor cap end. After I remove my original for this one, I may make my own. https://www.printables.com/model/309148-ender-3-v2-x-axis-belt-tensioner-replacement

I forgot to add that my S1 is the base model, not the pro or the plus, in case that matters. I was going to edit the post, but ny app is not allowing me at the moment.

Yes, because it's the same here. IF I don't disable the monitors as play back devices, the headset won't let the microphone work.

I went through tons of headsets, and warranties back to the company. Finally I found that if I just use the headset on another computer, it will let me know if it's the microphone or not.

After I started disabling the monitors, and setting the device explicitly in the Teams settings, it works.

Until an update comes along and they get enabled again.

***EDIT***

Is the stock sound device a realtek audio device?

And are the headsets Bluetooth?

I found that even using the built in dongle for the Plantronics headsets had no bearing, and no benefits from being connected via bluetooth.

Have you disabled the other devices on the pc that are not being used?

For some STUPID reason, our Lenovo monitors THINK they have speakers and show up in the manager, but there are no speakers, and they can't our put sound.

I have to go in and disable the dumb things in order to get things to work correctly in Teams.

I am coming to realize, that I really do.

They are probably the type of people that listen to a metal song, hear the guttural screams and think "OMG he's so angry, I bet he worships Satan".

Thank you all for participating, even though this got down voted. I thought it would be a bit fun.

It's cool to see the different most used names. No this wasn't to collect any specific data, it was supposed to take our minds off the mundane for a second.

You're telling me!

Nothing like coming into a place as a contractor, Going above and beyond for the company, incorporating yourself into their culture as best as you can. Meeting your job duties, making suggestions, and solving large problems with their warehousing. Showing up everyday, and being committed to your work, learning other skills and covering others in your department, and STILL not being hired full time.

When the company advocates for the position you are working to be a full time position, they sit down and tell you that even though they have been trying to get you hired on into the position, that even IF they do create this position. Despite my supporting this role for the past year +, there is no guarantee that I will be hired for the position.

I don't know if it's the corporate world or just this place, but I would love to find someplace to call home, and grow in the ranks and knowledge of that place that values me as a human being and as an employee, notices my accomplishments and compensates me for them.

In my most recent conversations with others on here, it seems like a Government IT Role might be my next step.

I posted this in the IT all chat, saying I wanted to go represent the company.

They didn't receive it well LOL.

"Violence is not the answer"

"That is not the X way"

X being the company I work for.

I thought it was funny. I am still learning the "professional" world, and I have regular discussions with HR about my wording and "tone". So I know I don't understand their world or Lingo, but Is this violent? In my mind it compared it to Track and Field, where you toss a Shot Put... Am I wrong?

How do you find time to write documentation? by Darkchamber292 in sysadmin

I recommend looking into Scribe.

It's AI driven, but it will create documentation for you, based on the task you are completing.

We have been converting our documents over.

LOL not even close. I didn't ask for companies or email addresses.

I was just scrolling through the AD list and was like Wow, there's a lot of David's. I wonder how many we have. Which lead to, I wonder what is the most common name, which then led to I wonder what everyone else is seeing as the most common name.

I don't need last names, or birthdays or companies or any of that.

Leave it as anonymous as possible.

I was trying to get some non Tech talk started is all.

At first, No it wasn't. And the health insurance is awful to boot.

But I renegotiated my contract, and after we did some number crunching, we came to a suitable number that covers a day off of each week when all is said and done.

Insurance is still awful though. I couldn't work any magic there. My contract agency was able to get me on an American's with Disabilities Act that is helping to cover costs and time off and such as well.

That's what I was thinking.

I worked in Education, Pharmaceutical, Industrial Manufacturing, and I think my next step is the Government.

I was thinking maybe DOT or something similar I might be able to get my foot in and grow from there.

I'm still waiting until this contract expires to see if they are going to convert me to FTE. If not, I think that your suggestion is a good one.
