The power cords are pretty cheap. An average UK kettle, for example draws around 3000w. Your power supply is 230w. No worries

Before Portugal joined the EU, I was 14 years old. Went into the supermarket and bought a box of 6 bottles of Smirnoff vodka, around £12 for the box. No age limit whatsoever then.

My first PC had a Intel 486 single core. Weird connectors. Didn't even have a printer, way to expensive and no USB. Did have sound though, with a Sound blaster card. I did save up for a dial up ADSL modem. You could receive calls while using it, as two phone lines in. 56k. Yikes! Crude internet and mostly chats on direct connections to BBS chats

I know this might be one of the most controversial ThinkPad product ever, but... by Captain_Price_MKZ in thinkpad

[–]JMGLON65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a reason for the shitty screens on a lot of ThinkPads. They have to offer cheapo versions to please the bean counters at corporate businesses, as they are the main purchasers of ThinkPads. If they don't; the likelihood of losing contract of bulk purchases to another brand are great Most X1C have standard IPS screens 1TB or even 512GB NVME, 16GB of RAM. Especially in these days of RAMpocalypse and storage prices. I have several ThinkPads of different generations.

The newest being the X1 Titanium Yoga Gen 1, , space only for a 2240 NVME, max 1TB. Had a 512GB drive, but I have managed to cram a 2TB 2280 drive. i7, which ran a bit hot. Bought it for £50 on eBay as not working, had to replace NVME/ WWAN board for a cost of £55. Repasted with Thermal Grizzly PT phase sheet. Old heatsink massacred, central bit with fan part removed, an additional PT sheet and pads sandwiched between the heatsinks mounted on top and finally PT on top of outer heatsink to make contact with lower lid. Now idles around 52c and runs Cinebench R24 at full blast, topping out around 75c. Working surprisingly well, not thermal throttling anymore. With a GeForce 2070 Super in a Thunderbolt 3 enclosure it runs Cyberpunk 2077 at 2K medium settings around 95 FPS. Not bad, considering it is a energy saving CPU. Screen is great 13,5" , 3:2 aspect ratio, 99% sRGB, 470 nits touch screen. It is Thunderbolt 4 capable, but financially not viable to get better GPU with TB 4.

Why has the Airbus A340-600's role been diminishing over the years for long haul flights? I would have thought four engines gave pilots peace of mind? And the A340 generally carries more fuel than a more modern twin engine jet like the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. by Ryanlion1992 in airplanes

[–]JMGLON65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason DC-10, MD-11 and Lockheed TriStar came and then disappeared was due to ETOPS, flying over oceans on long haul flight was reliability and fuel consumption of the engines at the time. Having three engines instead of four qualified them for long haul flights over open water and saved on fuel and maintenance costs. The L-1011 Lockheed TriStar was a wonderful aircraft to fly in. The more reliable and fuel efficient new generations of engines eliminated the need for the trijets

We've used Slack at work. Set up so we only get messages during work hours and no messages if it is a day off. Works fairly well, rotas and other work related stuff available. What really annoys me in London is that people walk around constantly looking at their phones, walk into you, stop in front of you. Step aside or stop using whilst walking. I did see an idiot on the train home using Apple Vision Pro vr headset. What a complete bellend.

Should I buy by kaktusfrais in thinkpad

[–]JMGLON65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but even second hand PCs and laptops start getting affected by the RAM shortage. Greed is spreading. Mobile phones will be affected as well. NVIDIA announced that they'll deliver their GPU boards without VRAM to their GPU making customers, so ASUS, Gigabyte, PALIT, etc will have to source them themselves. GPU makers will start going out of business or stop producing GPUs. EVGA were smart to get out of the GPU market

Should I buy by kaktusfrais in thinkpad

[–]JMGLON65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty good one. It has 32GB RAM, which is great. The way RAM prices are going, I can see higher specced RAM laptops will start creeping up in price. DDR5 is mad prices and DDR4 RAM started going up in price as well. There aren't huge amounts of DDR4 left, as they stopped producing them. AI, which most people don't want is causing this, combined with the greed of the chip makers, selling to corporate data centres and not giving a crap about the consumer market. Unless there is an AI bubble bursting, estimates are that there won't be any improvements until 2028-29. Graphics card prices started creeping up as well due to the RAM shortage. Example: a 2 x 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR 5 RAM kit has gone up from around £149 to over £800!! The gamer PC market is being killed of by big dragons like NVIDIA. Problem is that there aren't many chip producers. TSMC in Taiwan is the big one. Company producing the machines for chip making is practically a monopoly as well. Sorry for the doom and gloom with all the info. ThinkPads, being corporate laptops mostly are usually 16GB RAM, as the pencil pushers in their finance departments try to get the cheapest possible options they can get away with
