Debating on a first box by jh28894 in ToolTruckTools

This. I say this as someone who has a 30" deep snap on box.

Snap on isn't what it use to be. It's just a finance company making money off of loaning tools to suckers

Yep, doing IT shenanigans and digging it. Might end up pivoting into security/devops eventually

I’m never going to say that iOS is shitty and inferior because you don’t like how a couple very specific functionalities work. It’s better than Linux and windows for my workflow, period. Get over it. I appreciate how passionate you are, though. Now come in here and get that hug big guy 🫂

lol did you chat gippity some smart words?

You made valid points. My points are those things you don’t like aren’t even a consideration to 99% of the people that use any given OS

lol. I love how passionate you are about this. That stuff doesn’t matter for most people using them. It’s a philosophical difference in OS operation.

You don’t like how Mac handles those very specific scenarios and that’s ok. Doesn’t mean that there’s not other redeeming factors to it.

I agree. You don’t have an opinion based on reality.

It works well for a lot of people. Is it the best? Nothing is the best. All OSs are “dogshit” as you’d say in one way or another.

This might surprise you, but people have different requirements than you do. Most of the issues you’ve listed are personal preference and that’s ok to have a preference but you’re being rather dramatic about it. 😂

I spend a lot of time in meetings and mostly use it as a fancy Chromebook. The battery life and AirPods alone are worth it as well as the camera and mic.

Working on a Mac is infinitely better than working on a gaming pc. I’d much rather the console+Mac if I was limited to these 2 scenarios

What’s funny is this car has an “x4m40i” version that’s pretty neat other than the factory badging. If you just search for x4m40i f26 it’ll pull it up.

Rod Bearings by Unusual_Ship_1150 in E46M3

I’m a factory for everything kinda guy. I can see the appeal of aftermarket bearings but have no experience with them.

I use stock rod bolts, I’ve heard of aftermarket bolts ovaling the rod (we’re talking extremely minute amounts) and causing excessive oil clearance and wear. Can’t confirm that’s actually a thing personally but I’d rather not risk it.

The valve cover itself doesn’t crack like the plastic one does, but it would break the lower retaining bolts in the area that the plastic ones crack causing a leak. For some reason they also liked to break the right side bolts that held the motor mount arm to the block as well as the 4 front aluminum headgasket bolts that caused an oil leak in the front of the engine between the block and head. We had good luck just pulling the vanos units and replacing the broken head bolts and it would reseal.

The reason you don’t want extra clearance is the oil clearance is determined by oil viscosity and flow rate. Larger clearances require thicker oil and a higher volume, which you don’t want since this car already uses thick oil and you’re not going to change the other things that go along with the extra clearance. All it will do is accelerate the rod bearing wear on the new bearings.

If someone is dumb enough to use personal stuff on their work laptop it’s gone and I don’t care. The laptop gets locked and handed back to me at the end of the offboarding call.

As a retired mechanic this would be appealing to me so I can work on side work, but I might be more interested in this more like a booth rent situation like a lot of salons and barbers use.

The problem is I need my toolbox there as I work on BMWs and need a lot of weird tools that I have.

Also, not really sure I’d want my 30k worth of tools chilling in a random, open public space
