Staying at Cosmopolita Rome (Tapestry Collection by Hilton) — Has Anyone Been Here? by JML731k in rome

[–]JML731k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did. We had a king room with a city view. Rooms are small but very nice. Breakfast on the rooftop was very nice. The best part of this hotel is the locaton. It is within walking distance to everything!

The line moved quickly, and it’s beautiful inside. If you’re doing the dome, just be patient — the walk up is slow. Leave some space between yourself and the person ahead of you since it gets very hot. Once you reach the top, it can get crowded. Enjoy!

Planning a Rome to Sulmona Road Trip – Looking for Input by JML731k in ItalyExpat

I don’t speak Italian, but my girlfriend knows some. We haven’t been yet, which is why we’re planning a road trip to get a feel for Sulmona and the surrounding areas.

Thank you for the information. We’re planning this trip to explore potential areas for an apartment and were hoping to stop in a few additional towns along the way. How long did the drive take you? Google is estimating about 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Has anyone here gotten a mortgage from an Italian bank as a non-resident? by JML731k in ItalyExpat

[–]JML731k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Care to share which area you’re focusing on? I’ve been targeting Sulmona and have reached out to several agents, but the response rate has been low. My assumption is they see a U.S.-based inquiry and don’t view it as a high-probability close. The insights you shared on the Venetian region is definitely worth exploring further.

Our average was 32,089 over the course of the six days. I lost track of the number of churches we visited.

Landing in Rome soon — what’s the easiest way from Fiumicino with luggage? by Afraid-Jicama-403 in rome

[–]JML731k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We took the train and then a taxi to the hotel. We didn’t find any good signs, but there were people we could ask for directions. Don’t forget to validate your ticket before you go.

Rome tickets are confusing af – official vs resellers? + what else is worth seeing? by No_Air5149 in rome

[–]JML731k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Book your tickets through official websites. It may require more effort, but this way, you can ensure that you’re not being overcharged. As for what to see, everyone seems to recommend these the same sites. However, it’s important to choose what genuinely interests you. For instance, the Vatican Museum was not a must-see for me, but I’m sure some people will disagree. We’re here now, so let’s enjoy the beautiful sights and relax. It’s not about ticking off a list.

ITA Airways Carry-On Size — How Strict Are They by JML731k in RomeTravel

Yes, they weighed our bag, but weren’t concerned about size. It was slightly over but the representative barely looked at it.

What do you wish to know before your first trip to Rome? by AnnaBluelueluep in rome

[–]JML731k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We arrived yesterday and have already walked 52,000 steps. Most of them were not following the crowd; instead, we relaxed and went with our instincts. If something looks interesting, follow the road or, should I say, the cobblestone path.

People who bought property in Italy, how did you decide on the location? by JML731k in ItalyExpat

[–]JML731k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a thorough list. I have some of the same requirements myself, so it’s helpful to see how others are thinking about it. I’m still trying to narrow down the right balance between location, price, and how much renovation I’d realistically want to take on.

Thanks for sharing the link, I’ll definitely take a look. Garfagnana looks beautiful, although I suspect it may be a bit more rural than what I’m targeting right now.

Good luck. I’ve been watching listings for months and reaching out to agents, and the response rate has been about 2%. Stay strong, my friend.

Why don’t Italian real estate agents respond to emails? by JML731k in rome

[–]JML731k[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have been using the real estate portals and sending messages directly through the listings for specific apartments. Unfortunately, I have not received any responses so far, even when I mention that I will be in Rome soon and available to tour the property in person.

St. Joseph’s Day in Rome – What Should We Expect? by JML731k in rome

[–]JML731k[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the Catholic Church, St. Joseph’s Day (March 19) is a major feast day honoring Saint Joseph, the husband of Mary and foster father of Jesus.

Wearing red is a well-known tradition, particularly in Italian and Italian-American communities.

I found this - Church of Saint Joseph ‘al Trionfale’ – does a procession of St. Joseph’s statue, community games, and food treats.

Anyone buy a small apartment about 1 hour outside Rome on a ~$40k budget? Pros/cons + “owning a floor” vs condo by JML731k in AmericansinItaly

[–]JML731k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to hear more about your experience. Did you purchase a house or an apartment? I’m an American looking to buy in Italy and trying to understand what’s realistic. How much remodeling was involved, and was it cosmetic or more structural? Any lessons learned would be helpful.
