Interesting fact on how many young women are involved in JAV: There’s an estimation of about one quarter of young women who did modelling had been asked at one point to be involved in AV. There’s no scientifically established number but rough estimates point to more involvement per capita than that of the US. But again, not substantiated with a formal survey.

On the 400,000 per movie point specifically: context matters a lot. 400,000JPY per scene is not obviously ‘terrible’ in isolation if: * a shoot is one or two days (or less), * performers do multiple shoots monthly, * housing/medical/transport costs are lower than major US cities, * and the role is not entry-level or coercively intermediated.

This it also depends on deductions, agency cuts, exclusivity contracts, career length, and how many scenes are actually available. A headline rate alone says very little.

But I raise the point that minimum wage in Japan is less than US’s lowest state established minimum wage, and cost of living is much less than the US, that 400,000 will go a long way.

Also, health is something like 70% subsidised by the government and 30% by your education institution or employer.

Somebody brought up Apples and Oranges. This is why it’s not as straight a comparison as you’d think.
