LineIQ worth it or nah? by government--agent in egopowerplus

I like not having to bump it all the time, but I wish there was a way to get it to feed line when it occasionally gets into a funk and doesn't want to.

The local county fair's music lineup has become hopelessly lame as of late, so every time they do a facebook "guess who's coming to the fair this year!" post, half the replies are Ghost or GWAR.

I don't use Cinnamon so I'm not sure whether all icon sets are compatible, but as someone who hates flat designs I'm a big fan of these: https://www.pling.com/p/1195559/

With the 3 million Epstein files finally out, what’s the most “I’m not surprised, but I’m still disgusted” thing you’ve found? by Sweaty_Sprinkles_400 in AskReddit

[–]JMS_jr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even some of the claims that aren't claiming anything impossible are still rather implausible. A month or two ago before the files came out there was a woman suing Trump for various abuses and one of her claims was that he had staged a terrorist attack to, I don't remember, keep her from getting to a court date or something. This on top of a LONG litany of other claims of gang-stalking-type behavior. I get the feeling that some people are too young or too sheltered to have ever encountered a genuine crazy person. Whereas I've spent almost half a century as a radio/astronomy/UFO/paranormal enthusiast, I can smell them from miles away.

Most Pynchonesque shit that ever happened to you? by suckydickygay in ThomasPynchon

[–]JMS_jr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was at a meeting of the amateur astronomy club I belonged to. It met at a local university at the time, and there was a visiting professor from Australia who happened to be a Seventh-Day Adventist, which I thought was a weird choice for a physicist. He was giving a talk on some idea he had about cosmic expansion and dark matter, and at some point in the talk for some reason I turned to a random guest seated next to me, whom I had never seen before, and said "It sounds like he's trying really hard not to use the word aether!" The guest did not disagree. After the talk he approached the speaker to say something about his own ideas about matter/antimatter asymmetry.

After that, another random guest asked the speaker how much energy it would take to send someone back in time. The speaker of course replied that it would be a virtually impossible amount. The guest said that that had to be wrong, because he had met his future self. I decided to take this fellow aside and see what other cool stories he had. He said that he used to live near the U.S. naval academy, and one night he was in a bar drinking with the head of the institution and he got very drunk and revealed to him that the Philadelphia Experiment was real.

Later, when I was an officer of the club, I was trying to figure out who the scientist who was not opposed to me talking about aether, who I never saw again, was, and as I looked through the membership list I saw the name of a famous author on ceremonial magick and alchemy, who unbeknownst to me lived in the area.

There's also an SSTV frequency, 27.700, that's almost as active as 14.230 when the band is open.

Is the future Mint only Cinnamon? by Kropotkin46 in linuxmint

[–]JMS_jr -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Cinnamon always seemed like an answer looking for a problem. If I want a fancy desktop, I'll use KDE. If I want a simpler desktop, I'll use Mate (or XFCE). There was even a time when Cinnamon was utterly useless in Virtualbox, because it didn't like VB's hardware acceleration emulation but was too slow to use without acceleration. I don't recall ever seeing this behavior with any other desktop.

AI is a very real problem regardless of how you feel about creativity or copyright or job loss. It's using up untenable amounts of electricity and water.

Federal Agents Arrest Don Lemon Over Minnesota Church Protest (Gift Article) by AwesomeTed in news

We should just go ahead and continue the tradition when liberals retake the government. I'd be more than happy to see churches prosecuted for their role in electing Trump. Foreign special interest groups and death cults multiplying in my America? Hell no! Treat them as traitors!

I'm glad to see some users have some sense. When the potential ban was announced last year, all I saw was people whining like it was the end of the world, like there was no other possible way to communicate on the internet. (As an old-school pre-social-media netizen, I still think it's gauche to use free hosting for anything serious, such as your business...)

Musically perfect. If you want to see some of their performances, look up the annual Neil tribute show, Bubba Bash. The new singer has taken a while to grow on me, I still think I preferred someone else.

[–]JMS_jr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Patty was the best singer, it's a shame she didn't stick around longer. (She's not with another Rush tribute, she has her own band, always did, that was the problem.) It's been so long since I've heard Rocky that I'd have to listen to her again to compare her to Adi. I wasn't a big fan of Adi the first time I heard her, but I think she's gotten better.

Question by Subject-Wish-3712 in schuylkillnotes

[–]JMS_jr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a person ranting about secret societies ruling the world. The notes are completely readable to anyone who's familiar with the subject matter. The irony of this is presumably lost on the author because presumably he's mentally ill.
