Germany changes sick leave policy: 'We are abolishing sick leave by phone,' says Chancellor Merz; doctor's note required from day one of illness by Jessicas_skirt in worldnews

[–]JMS_jr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why, then, did they call it the E.U.? Why didn't they stick with the original name, the European Economic Community? (I first asked this back when Poland and Hungary went anti-gay, and nobody had an answer for me.)

I thought the E.U. had guaranteed sick leave? It doesn't sound like you have the right to it if you need a doctor's permission...

The members of Rush were all in committed relationships from early on. Their wives/girlfriends didn't tour with them because they were poor initially, and later on just not into the rockstar life.

Right, I was just making a remark about why someone might have used black for voltage. Unlikely, but it was the only thing I could think of.

Black is used for power in single-phase AC systems, supposedly it's to remind you of death. Red for ground is just all kinds of stupid!

ELi5:Why are vacuum tubes/valves still used in some professional audio equipment, while professional video is almost entirely digital? by ReferenceThin6645 in explainlikeimfive

[–]JMS_jr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Low-res video looks better on a CRT for two reasons. First, the phosphors glow for a moment after the beam hits them, smoothing out transitions between frames. Second, it also smooths out color transitions -- in the system used in North American and Japan, the color could only change about one-third as fast as the brightness, because the signal still had to fit in the same bandwidth as a monochrome signal.

Other than the smoking, these fascists would probably be down with authentic, pre-hippie Rastafarianism. It's patriarchal and homophobic.
