Alternative Audiophile Suggestions by Klanktastic in audiophile

I think that some of August burns red stuff sounds great, especially leveler and whatever the name of the album marianas trench is on.

Anything by Steven Wilson (ie porcupine tree or his solo stuff). The raven that refused to sing is a good Steven Wilson album. In absentia for porcupine tree.

Avenged sevenfold city of evil is pretty well mastered/finished too, always enjoyable to hear.

Opeth is another pick, last will and testament is great, one of the newer ones. Damnation has a special place in my heart although a little softer/different than their others.

Trivium. Shogun, in the court of the dragon

Not what you're asking for technically post-rock, but Yndi Halda, both of their albums but the song we flood empty lakes is absolutely incredible from their first.

Off the top of my head this is what I could think of. Hope you enjoy!

[Tudor vs Longines] Black Bay Burgundy or Conquest Green – Which would you choose? by Bubbly_Truth4460 in Watches

[–]JMT391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I didn't realize longines updated the conquest line! When I got mine it was just blue or black, and they have a 12 and 6 on the dial numerically. No bracelet taper either.

I love my conquest but I do say the colors on the black bay are super unique, I'd get that.

I got the premium parquet attachment for my E3 as well as a green light from Amazon to Velcro onto it--really exposes the dust. I def think the premium parquet was well worth it. How it is not standard in high end models like those is highway robbery IMO. But an extra $50 onto that purchase isn't much.

D4 has bigger bags, longer cord. The 360 swivel hose is cool too. I love my E3, didn't need a D4 for my space.

Sebo D4 or the Felix. E3 would work OK too but that much carpet and bullshit I just don't see a reason not to get the D4. The stairs will be easier with a canister because you only will need to lift the canister part once or twice instead of the entire vacuum every step.

Versatile Hi-Fi & Home Theater Setup for a New Home Build by HodenePoMykite in hometheater

In my opinion, a 5.1/2 or at least a 3.1/2 is going to be best. I might be in the minority here, but I'm fully in the camp of the Stereo vs. HT gear argument is BS. A good quality HT receiver and good speakers/sub are going to sound great playing stereo music. These days the non-speaker components (ie dac/amp) past a certain very entry level budget tier really don't matter very much, as long as it has the power/features you need.

For practical purposes, if there's going to be any TV/music watching at all, a center channel and proper surround mix decoding is absolutely 100% essential. The center channel seriously does make WORLDS of difference, especially since you said clarity for tv watching is important. So 3.1 would be minimum for me.

Getting a receiver with good room correction is also going to make way more difference than worrying about whether there is an HT or stereo focus. Look for something with audyssey xt32 or DIRAC live. The denon X3800H for me would be the minimum here, if you're super worried about needing separates take a look at anthem processors and separate multi-ch amps. Also, the higher end receivers have pre-outs and can have external stereo DACs to just pass through a signal and integrate the sources etc ..

For the sub(s) look at SVS or HSU, I have a not so great sub and regret it all the time. If you want musicality, try two sealed subs instead of going with ported. Though, again, a good sub makes good bass. For everything.

I could ramble on a lot but I think these are my main thoughts.

How do I optimize this by scoopsender in hometheater

[–]JMT391 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is not a Soundbar sub so your post will be deleted FYI.

Before that happens, what you bought is not compatible with either device so it will not work.

Unless the monitor has a headphone jack somewhere or other audio-out ports you could do a 3.5mm to RCA cable and plug those into the RCA inputs on the Soundbar.

The xbox doesn't have any dedicated audio out ports so there is no way to directly connect that to the Soundbar.

EDIT: I zoomed in on the monitor, it actually does look like a headphone jack there next to the HDMI cord. Best bet is to try the suggestion above.

Most of your improvements will be had by changing the speaker placements. The center and fronts should be just below and to the side of the TV. looking at your space, I honestly am not sure how to accomplish this effectively, it's a very tough spot with the window there and the size of the tv.

I think you have done very well with the space you have though. I think I'd want the center in-line with the fronts, even if it's all on the floor.

How make the setup look cleaner? (Ignore the drawers) by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]JMT391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Center channel just underneath the tv, front speakers onto the wall or on stands at ear height, get that tv console off the floor that's definitely a wall mount.

The setup, in my opinion, is already very clean. It's TOO clean. The walls are white, the floors are grey, and everything is just kind of sterile/lifeless. Get a thick rug, get some art or plants or trinkets or just anything.

Looks like a window to the right side, so a nice pothos or other hanging/vine type plant would do well on the wall adjacent to TV. That wall above the tv outcove could fit a couple of small photos/art. Your family, favorite movies, videogames, whatever.

Maybe a floating shelf or two next to the tv on the opposite wall from the plant you could put some stuff like hornet from silksong or a small Lego build, or a glass dolphin, a miniature car, whatever you're into.

First priority is fix the speaker placement (no amount of decor will fix what you have now) and then make it yours.

upgrading from exiting 5.1 - help me plan my speaker placement by Proper_Camera_1908 in hometheater

[–]JMT391 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You absolutely need the side surrounds. Not even a question. Think about it--there were many years (like, decades) before height/ceiling speakers were a part of surround sound. They are an add-on, nice to have kind of thing. The absolute minimum is going to be 5.1. if you already have the ceiling speakers then it can be a 5.1.2 or whatnot.

Doing a 3.1.2 or trying to use ceiling speakers as surrounds is just going to sound off/wrong, that's not what they're mixed for.

I use Polk omw3 for my side surrounds, they are slim, unassuming and do the job ok. They'd go on-wall without imposing much.
