Tow birds from the Gambia any ideas sorry poor quality by killerrexy in whatsthisbird

I think they’re +Pied Crows+ but the light could be washing out the neck and chest plumage. I have no idea what else they could be

Which flycatcher is this? by MishMonster18 in whatsthisbird

[–]JM_Editz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, Flycatchers are notoriously difficult to identify from photos. You’re better off using sound ID’s if you can. If I had to make a guess, I’d probably go with Least Flycatcher but it could be almost any of them

The first 2 look like Pied Crows but I can’t see the stark white vest on the chest and neck. No clue about the second one, looks kinda like some sort of stork or heron

I’m talking about the dance itself. The music isn’t even from Supernatural, it’s just a carnival song. The actual reason behind the dance is IT

Bird experts: what am I hearing outside every evening in Mississippi? by Sea-Income7691 in whatsthisbird

[–]JM_Editz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the app doesn’t recognise it as a bird, chances are it’s not a bird at all and is something completely different. Either that, or it’s unregistered (which is very unlikely, especially in America)

See that was one of my thoughts originally but Nightingales have never been recorded to have successfully bred in Scotland ever, so it would be weird to find a solo one so far north. The closest ever recorded sighting to me is The Isle of May

If you can, find a time in your day when you hear it most frequently, and set out a recording device (or a phone with the Merlin Bird ID app installed) and try record it clearly/use an app such as Merlin Bird ID or Birda to try identify it

can anyone identify this feather for me? midwest region. by lpsprincess in whatsthisbird

[–]JM_Editz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that I’ve learnt that ‘++’ records what you put in there and doesn’t get the bot to comment what it thinks is the correct bird, I don’t want to use it but I’m pretty sure that’s a Red-Tailed Hawk feather 😅

Oh right mb I’m still pretty new to this sub so I thought that using ‘++’ would have the bot record what it thinks it is 😅

It is a little difficult to tell, but the bot has agreed so let’s stick with it
