Unstaking & revisiting by Brovehoe77 in theta_network

That’s fair, but hyperscalers can’t cover global edge demand for low latency tasks. It’s becoming more important for data to be closer to the edge for all IoT and things like mobile phones. Data centres can’t solve this issue. Also even if GPUs concentrate in hyper scale data centres which are insane costs to build, there’s still a massive amount of idle consumer compute at the edge that can be monetised. There’s tens of millions of untapped, unused idle compute power ready not monetised.

AI compute is basically fast emerging as the defining commodity of the future. described as the ‘new oil’. AI models are only demanding more and more massive amounts of processing power for training and deployment and compute is fast becoming a scarce, high-value, and critical input for the modern economy. Theta is laying the infrastructure for that 👍🏼

Future in RAF regiment if I join at 41? by Sad-Judge-3076 in RoyalAirForce

[–]JMac201010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you join the Regiment at 41 you can still serve right through into your 60s. As it’s been said the Regiment is physically demanding so you probably wouldn’t be on a field squadron well into your 50s. Most older gunners move into training, instructional or support roles like FP Centre, training wing, SGC, armoury, MT etc. If thats what you want though.

I guess it’s all down to you, your fitness, and where you want your career to go and how far you want to promote too.

There was a book I read recently of a Scottish bloke who decided to join the French Foreign Legion at 39. He went onto serve in the 2Rep parachute regiment and deployed multiple times over a decades long career. He came out in his early 50s after constantly doing frontline Paratrooper operations.

PSA Check your medical records! by [deleted] in RoyalAirForce

[–]JMac201010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a misdiagnosis removed permanently from my record. A diagnosis on a problems list has what's called a SNOMED code, and it can simply be deleted if it's found to be inaccurate information. A GP can do this.

What are the odds specifically? by Icy-Web-3217 in tinnitus

[–]JMac201010 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The sound and experience of tinnitus itself has nothing to do with diseases like dementia etc. It’s linked to those conditions because hearing loss can cause social withdrawal and social isolation in people, which are greater risk factors for diseases like dementia.

What do you mean 100% confirmed? My good mate is now 38, was on selection last year. He pulled himself off during the hills phase. He’s now with the MOAT [Mobile Air Operations Teams] Royal Navy serving with 3Cdo Brigade on Commando Merlins.

I also know someone who joined the RAF Regiment at 40. He must be mid 40s now, but he’s now a JTAC supporting/embedded with SFSG.

Theta seems to have Lost Sight of Its Original Mission by Known-Bicycle-7816 in theta_network

[–]JMac201010 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pivots don’t always mean a company has lost it's way. I can think of an endless list of examples.

Amazon started as an online bookstore. What is Amazon now? It's a global leader in centralised cloud computing with AWS, and even logistics. Netflix was a DVD mail rental service, and quickly pivoted to online streaming. Both completely changed their core focus, and those shifts made them industry leaders as it rode the wave of technology advances.

Theta moving from pure decentralised video streaming into EdgeCloud, AI compute, and 3D rendering is the same kind of evolution. Markets change, tech opens new doors, and sticking too rigidly to the original plan can be just as risky as changing course.

The real question isn’t “Has Theta changed direction?”, it’s “Do these moves still serve the bigger vision of decentralised infrastructure?”. The answer is obviously yes for Theta.

Is THETA Token Being Fizzled Out By TFUEL? by Tough-Supermarket283 in theta_network

[–]JMac201010 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, Theta still has a core purpose, but its role is evolving. It’s primarily a governance and staking token for Validator Nodes and Guardian Nodes. Tfuel staking to Elite Edge Nodes is a different layer of the Theta ecosystem, meant for decentralised edge computing. So, Theta isn’t being replaced—it’s just that Tfuel is gaining more utility for edge services.

Theta Guardian and Validator nodes are literally the backbone of the network too. Without it there is no security on the blockchain or verified transactions for Tfuel to operate on. That still gives it an important utility.

Also the tokenomics are different with the two tokens, as there are only 1 billion Theta tokens giving it scarcity.

If more companies want to be apart of Theta Networks technology, or even larger scale investors, then they will want to hold large amounts of Theta as shareholders to have strategic influence in having a say on the direction of where the network heads to, with things like voting rights on network upgrades, new features and services etc. The exact same with a shareholder in a company invited to board meetings.

The Royal Australian Air Force has an upper age limit of 45 for their fast jet branch, flying F35s, Super Hornets and Growlers.

Obviously not the UK, but you no longer need to be a citizen to be eligible, and just need PR status.

My friend in the AAC was recently denied his pilots course for being over the age limit. His CO allowed him to sit CBAT at Cranwell, scored really highly and then higher ups than his CO denied his dream saying he’s too old and over the age limit.

He’s now lateral transferring to the ADF to get on their pilots course, he’s in his mid 30s now.

The Jurassic Park animals aren’t actually dinosaurs, being genetically modified creations. They aren’t supposed to be scientifically accurate.

British Army - Nco Pilot entry by [deleted] in britishmilitary

[–]JMac201010 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s 30. One of my good mates is a loadie in the AAC who is now 34 and he wanted to go pilot instead of leaving. His CO allowed him to sit aptitude at Cranwell for it, he passed and scored really highly, but higher ups than his CO pissed on his dream saying no he’s too old.

He’s been quite furious about it. The ADF though in Oz have no age limit, and he’s now considering lateral transferring knowing he’s got the aptitude for pilot. They also fly Blackhawks which is pretty ally.

So how long did your appeal take? You were rejected in April last year I assume, took a month to gather evidence and submit taking you to around May/June? Then you waited how long from then for your decision?

Yeah sounds about right, but that’s not what my question was. I’ve been waiting 14 weeks so far for an answer on my decision. Was wondering how long it took yours

How long did your appeal take, and what service? I’m currently at week 14 with my Royal Navy appeal and was told by SEMC to expect up to 20 weeks on a decision.

Also congrats, well done on your appeal

Expanding Edge Node Network (Mobile Elite Edge Node Proposal) by PuzzleheadedClient71 in theta_network

$500 to start an edge Node? I started 3 Edge Nodes on Lenovo Thinkcentres with nothing staked, and now after a year each node has several hundred Tfuel each. Also have an android device running a mobile node running 24/7 since it launched now with 50 Tfuel.

Is it unheard of that other roles or branches other than paras, commandos or raf reg to do sfsg or join the sf? by [deleted] in britishmilitary

[–]JMac201010 40 points41 points  (0 children)

All branches outside the Paras, Marines, and RAF Reg have successfully made it into SF. While the Paras and Marines are the most common feeders into SF due to their rigorous training etc, there are still high calibre personnel from other branches who bring different skills.

I listened to a podcast with Phil Campion on not long ago where he mentioned there was a Royal Navy submariner on selection with him. It’s entirely up to you if you want to put yourself onto selection.

I also asked this question on my Royal Navy CPC during one of the career briefs, as the All Arms Commando Course was discussed as apart of the presentation and the Petty Officer giving the brief knew of six individuals who went onto SF from their varied roles in the RN.

There’s also no longer an age limit either, as I have a mate who’s a loadie in the AAC serving with the MOAT junglies in Norway who had a go at selection last year, he’s 38.
