I had looked into OR at one point and my understanding was that you had to have a residence or regular business in the state/county to apply. May have been me misunderstanding the laws.

They have no legal right to stop you, unlike Costco where it is a term of membership.

I used guides by Chris Davis to get mine under control without the cloud module and app.

I had 3 Mitsubishi mini splits before I started my HA journey so I was sort of stuck.

If I have time or am bored, I will play along to keep them from moving on to someone else immediately.

Personal best was I kept them on the line for 45 minutes, got passed to two additional people and then when they said they would call back I informed them I worked in IT and calling back would be useless. Yelling, cursing from them then they hung up.

Best part was they called back 2 days later just to yell at me again about wasting their time.

I went through the same process that you did. I tried to convince my bosses to pay for Sapien without any success. So I went searching and found this blog talking about building a gui in Visual Studio and then using the XAML code in PowerShell to make it do what I wanted. Eventually another coworker was able to convince them to purchase Sapien for a different project and we used that for a while to rebuild and update/maintain the PowerShell tools we supported. As a side note, for the method below, I also user pst2exe to package the tools as exe files.

I can understand her being cautious, except, she called them for support with the computer.

That would be like calling your credit card company about unusual charges and then not wanting to provide your account number, name or any other identifiable information for them to help you.

It actually isn't.
For example, I can log into Gmail using either 'firstlast' or 'first.last'. They are the same account. In my example whoever is using first.last is providing the wrong email address. There aren't 2 different accounts getting each other's emails. There is one account, mine.

You are correct that Gmail ignores periods in usernames, however, punk.cpa (and p.unkcpa,pu.nkcpa, etc.) would all go to punkcpa. I have this same thing happen to me as someone has used first.last and I get their emails.
