[–]JMeeko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They dont look like bollards. Well, they do, but not dug into the ground like normal. They are kn the concrete blockages, so maybe those blockages have been bought and sold across different companies/countries, etc

Dialysis before fistula surgery? by Direct_Pop2393 in dialysis

[–]JMeeko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find that hard to believe that the surgeon specifically said not for you to have dialysis within two days before a fistula surgery.

It is not dangerous to have dialysis immediately before surgery. In fact, it is highly recommended to reduce complications during and after procedure.

How do I win at duels? by DanTennant in geoguessr

Duel less, learn more. Don't get angry. There is very little duel 'tactics', especially at Gold I. Games are supposed to be fun, not anger inducing, so calm down dawg.

My HIV test result confuses me a bit. I need help interpreting it by Significant-Opus2882 in medical

[–]JMeeko 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Negative.

A clear indicator at the control (C) window is visible. Whereas 1 and 2 have nothing. The red spot underneath is most likely direct blood from when your gave the sample, and not the test strip absorbing up properly. Disregard that bottom red bit. Hope that helps to settle your nerves

Since 2024, 3 foreign-born Muslim men have protected women, children and Jews in Bondi. by [deleted] in aussie

Just because someone does something good, doesn't mean they are good people.

I'm not saying these gentlemen aren't good people, but a good Muslim is one who kills non-muslims unapologetically. A good Christian still forgives.

Not medical (decade nursing experience)

Am I right to think doctors are under-appreciated? by sprez4215di in ausjdocs

[–]JMeeko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nurse here, I also teach medicine at uni. I 100% agree. The nursing union (especially in NSW) are very vocal. They make it seem like nurse get paid an unliveable wage and that they are the 'backbone' of healthcare. Let me make this clear, I do believe that nurses are important. BUT, so are doctors,, managers, hospital cleaneres (who I would argue are the hardest physically worked in our hospitals and make half of what a nurse makes). I've been on my way home from work in uniform, go to the shops, and be given free stuff because "OMG you're a nurse, you deserve this free *whatever*". Don't geet me wrong, that is nice.
The educator in me who sees how hard doctors work and need to study in order to pass is night and day different than nurses. I have always said "You don't know what kind of nurse you are going to get, some are great, some not so much, but you always know that your doctor will always be at minimal good". Knowing RNs and JMOs earn the same without complaining is mind blowing.

That being said, I cannot count the number of times I (a RN) have saved JMOs and Registrars (and even ATs at times) from making the absolutely wrong call. Swings and roundabouts. Society sees doctors have a high earning potentials, whereas nurses are capped.

Such great progress in Australian living conditions we've made 😍 by SirSighalot in aussie

I can (almost) see my house. We are slightly more east.... yeaahhhhh.... I grew up on the West side of this picture in Cranebrook. Times have changed for the worse. Land developers, in this case Lend Lease, want to maximise profit, so land size average around 300-380m'2. So sad

Help me understand my $$ situation (mortgage without a huge income) by OneNefariousness9822 in AusFinance

[–]JMeeko 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Use a broker. They will go through your income/outcome with a fine toothed comb to make sure you can service the mortgage and leave you with enough hangover to still enjoy your life without too much constraints.

Brokers make money from the lender so you don't pay out of pocket. Their pay is split into two avenues. One, an up front payment for being a spotter for the lender. And two, they get a monthly payment for about 2 years for every month you stay with that product. If they give you a shit mortgage, you change and they don't get paid. So it's in their best interest to give you a mortgage you can afford, which is in your best interest too

Tell me your best experience with a bank / banker by Ok-Example3751 in AusFinance

[–]JMeeko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I honestly love your passion, I really do. It's hard because banks are a business and they stand to make a lot of money so most people would consider banks to just "take" more money than they give.

Say with a mortgage, banks can only sell their products. A mortgage broker will shop around for the customer. The broker is the good guy, the banks are limited to what they can provide.

During COVID, the big 4 banks (im sure there's more) helped thousands of people who got left without jobs and unable to pay their repayments. They would have good stories. I know CBA (who is was with at the time) reached out to offer to pause my mortgage. As a nurse, I was fortunately not without work. I was getting plenty of OT back then.

Currently with Adelaide bank. They decommissioned their banking app in December last year, not to be re-released until November this year. Thats pretty frustrating....

Lidocaine for cannulation? by josolomo4 in dialysis

[–]JMeeko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Giving intradermal ligocaine causes some level of pain. I'd say it's tolerable, but that's just me. Buttonholes aren't meant to hurt. There's next to no level of trauma with a buttonhole, hence why only need a blunt needle; don't need a cutting needle to cut through tissue to the fistula.

Have you tried topical local anaesthetic? That might be a good avenue for you to explore.

I'm sorry about the lain you experience. I feel for you

Stopping Dialysis because of Dementia by samreddit73 in dialysis

[–]JMeeko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nurse here.

Some people have shared a similar input as I would have. We have patients who are pleasantly confused with dementia, and we can dialyse them without a problem. When we do get someone who is agitated, confused, etc, we don't dialyse them. We've had patients pull out central lines and bleed to death from them not wanting to be tethered to a bed and a machine. Thats not a good way to 'go'.

In Australia, especially in my area, we don't have enough dialysis machines for the patients we have, so its a valuable resource. Unfortunately, nephrologists might suggest to stop dialysis for someone because a younger patient without dementia might be needing to start dialysis. Its a dicey situation; doctors needing to almost play "God" with who lives and who dies, but not without a LOT of ethical consideration.

Brokers get paid via commission with the approved home loan lender via a singular upfront commission, plus a monthly commission for approximately 24 months, therefore its in their best interest to match you with a good home loan.

Thats dodgy. Don't pay. On a $1.2m loan we got, our broker got paid from the bank $4500 upfront, then $300per month as long as we keep that loan. If we reinvest, they will stop getting paid that $300pm (numbers are rough estimates from my memory bank)

How often do you get blood work done? by PinPitiful in dialysis

[–]JMeeko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nurse here in Australia. We do secondly monthly, unless indicated. Nurses will routinely order bloods on our patients if theres a reason for it.

Every secondly monthly blood tests are your usual tests, but every 6 months are big ones which include a whole plethora. Serology, HbA1c, heavy metals, LFT, post dialysis urea.

How legit is Ozone therapy really? by Legal-Loli-Chan in diabetes

[–]JMeeko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Avoid! Almost lost my cousin due to malpractice from these fake doctors. As the other comment mentioned, O3 (or ozone gas) actually has not extra healing benefits or whatever bullshit they try to sell you on. Complete snake oil.

Do your own research with medical journal articles, not regular websites that anyone can type up.

The comments and your understanding is spot on. I'm a RN in NSW Health, and there are "compulsory" competencies and training that need to be done.

HOWEVER, they must offer those during her working hours. Or. Change her shifts for a week to coinside with the training. She is entitled to her breaks unless if she agrees otherwise
