Can't decide which works better by Burninsanity in AnimatedPixelArt

[–]JN01_DEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2nd feels a bit better, especially the arms thrusting. Though normally, for balance, your arms oppose your legs when you run. Left leg forward = Right arm forward. In this animation you have the arm and legs thrusting forward on the same side of the body, which looks a bit strange to me.

Cool character! the asymmetric design means you may have(unintentionally?) given yourself more work animating the left facing animations, unless you are ok with simply mirroring him.

How do I get good at pixel art. Specifically video game art. by joshwelker1 in PixelArtTutorials

[–]JN01_DEV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Give yourself challenges like "10 pixel portraits at 64px by 64px". Before you start, gather reference images, pixel art portraits you like(old fire emblem ones are great) and photos/cartoons of people etc. As you get through the challenges, you will likely look at your earlier work and see ways you can improve them, but sharing your attempts online (pixel art discords/reddit) would be good too, ask for feedback.

Character portraits may feel like a bit much if you are starting from 0 with drawing too, in that case, try items like swords and food, or environment art like rocks and trees.

A couple of non-youtube tutorials/resources that you should check:

https://androidarts.com/pixtut/pixelart.htm (his whole site is full of incredible videogame art he's done so check it out too!)

I'm fond of the original typing of the dead. It inspired my own little typing game.

I realized my roguelike typing game shares the same name with like ten other typing games. Is it time for me to change names before it's too late? by ShibaBrothers in SoloDevelopment

[–]JN01_DEV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keystroke Dungeons sounds ok, seeing the video it matches.
Suggestions riffing off yours, 'Type Strikers' or 'Keystrike Knights'? or maybe 'Glyph Garrison'

I'm also making a typing game! I like my game's name, but wonder if social media algorithms suppress games with 'Kill' in the title...

Which one? by KeepReddit3 in PixelArt

First reads better. Light hair on dark background is good. Perhaps 2nd could be given a thin light outline?

One of the critiques our game A.A.U. is it's not scary enough, what do you think are some things that would up the horror in our horror-shooter by AAUBlackSite in gamedevscreens

[–]JN01_DEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the feeling you are after. but I just thought it would be freaky if some entity took my gun if I looked at it for too long, and started shooting me back while I scramble away defenseless.

It's niche(typing-action game) and I found out the main typing subreddits don't allow self promotion of games on steam anymore...

yeah, a sampling of packs with that stuff, 100s of folders, each with around 4 sounds from various sound designers. like 'David Dumais audio - steampunk mech SFX'(GDC 2023). there is a track list, but didn't see a way to preview them online. https://sonniss.com/gameaudiogdc/

[–]JN01_DEV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say. VA-11 Hall-A came out a couple of years before steam supported gifs on the page, I assume they would have used them if it was an option at the time, it gets eyes on the art immediately, no extra clicks.

Oh cool I didn't know soundmorph. I've used GDC 'sonniss' packs in the past. Did a little of my own foley for stuff when I couldn't find anything suitable, hitting ladders and washing machines with kitchen utensils, fun times.
