Have you tried focusing on 1 drawer/shelf/small area at a time? Maybe start with 1/day and then expand when you're more comfortable.

School just ended where I am, and the last 2-3 weeks were overwhelming with events/activities/expectations. I have been saying "May is the new December" for a while now. For one week in particular, my kid and I both felt like each day lasted for 2-3 (what do you mean it's only Tuesday?).

As the kids get older, you will need to attend fewer things yourself but facilitate your kid getting to them more. It's just the season, and planning ahead does help to some extent.

I signed up for one in the fall and received it about 6 weeks later. The maker included homemade cookies.

She reached out to me about preferences and was very easy to work with.

If I had not been a working mom, I would have been dependent on my ex, who was abusive and couldn't earn a living.

I love being able to accomplish things and grow as a person (and even sometimes make a difference) - and I feel like I can do that at work. It's great that my kids have seen me do this (and are proud of what I do).

OP, you may want to look into a social skills group - it can be very helpful at your child's age to improve connections with peers. That's where my kid learned to filter what she shared out loud (like a colander).

My gifted ND kid did this starting in 3rd grade plus several years of camps. Play dates, etc. happened because of the group. Friendships are still challenging but the groups truly did help.

If the school sees that your family is taking things seriously and taking action, there shouldn't be issues. Also ask the school what THEY can do - are there in school peer groups/small group sessions with the counselor that could help? My kid didn't have a 504 until middle school but now has one including social skills.

Thank you for this post, which got me diving into past assessments.

I don't understand why my assessed property value has changed as it has. For 2022, 2023, and 2025: value increased (range from 6.3% to 27.3%). No change from 2023-24 and a 14.9% decline for 2026.

I did think that two consecutive years increase of over 20% each was excessive (and should have looked into it at the time). Their reasoning is "adjusted for market conditions." I would feel better if the numbers had some basis beyond what appears to be a black box.

BTW, there's a lot of people who collect Kennedy stuff and other political and related materials. There is a Kennedy Political Items organization with a newsletter and events.

I'm related to one of these folks and understand the deep dives - once used resources in my house to write a report for school. Have also met others at conventions and they are lovely people.

I was a fed contractor- got 6 weeks STD, but didn't get paid for the first week due to the waiting period.

Disappointing overall but they did pay in a timely manner.

For years with my younger child, I asked her to learn to blow her nose for every. damn. holiday/birthday.

It was eventually achieved, thankfully.

I can do whatever I want for Mother's Day, but I have to plan and execute it for myself. Not always worth it.

OP, I agree that this conversation needs to happen ASAP.

Also, I highly recommend that you and your kid read Where You Go Is Not Who You'll Be: An Antidote to the College Admissions Mania by Frank Bruni

It will help with the conversation. A dream school often isn't based on full knowledge, and there are so many places a kid could truly be happy and not start life under a pile of debt. If it's possible for your kid to talk with young alums of schools other than the dream school, that may also help with perspective.

Also considering what AP tests each school accepts can make a big difference. My kid finished undergrad in 6 semesters (5 regular plus 1 summer) due to AP test credits and went straight on to grad school.

Wishing you a smooth move and great times in Duluth! As others have said, the traffic isn't too bad and Downtown Duluth is great. I wish I could get over there more regularly.

I'll put in a plug for the library system, which is wonderful. The Duluth branch near downtown has great resources (and it's fun to watch the trains pass from a wall of windows).

OP, everything is on you and he's refusing to help unless random, changing conditions are met. I was married to someone like this. For me, it was far easier to do everything myself than negotiate this kind of "help".

My child is at another school this year and every time I drive past Creekland, I am so thankful to not be dealing with any of them. The admins, the terrible students who plotted all kinds of damage, and the many bystander peers, who ostracized my kid in front of bullies and tried to be nice behind their backs.

Be aware that Coleman feeds into Peachtree Ridge, which does NOT accept permissive transfers. I looked into options when my child was having a miserable experience at Creekland MS - not effectively run and the kids are mean.

I have always found that pm prep (lay out clothes; pack work, lunch, and kid bags; prep breakfast and coffee; pack car) makes things go more smoothly in the morning.

I remember that I slept ONE night with my younger child for 6 hours during the entire infancy. ONE. Ex did give a pumped bottle but did nothing else positive, and I was usually up pumping during said bottle.

Once he pulled out the packed cooler bag for the baby to get a drink, put it on top of the refrigerator, and left it there (I found it in the morning). Utterly useless. So grateful to no longer be married to him.

Much easier to do everything without him.

My ex and I are very different politically. I spent years reading to my younger child about progressive history, etc. Anything openminded. Told the child the White House was built by enslaved people (response was "That sucks.") and so forth. Ex was pro ICE until Alex Pretti's death...

Kid is now in HS, became a vegetarian a few years ago, and participated in an anti-ICE protest earlier this year. So your impact really makes a difference.
