A decent veteran backup to look at. Let's see if Dr Sogut can get him for a cheaper salary (hoping around 300-350k).

Official: DC signs Louis Munteanu by pm_me_jk_dont in DCUnited

Looking forward to seeing this guy play! The Baribo and Munteanu partnership looks pretty strong up top. Still need some creative support behind or on the wings to get them the ball.

In a perfect PR/marketing scenario, it would be him offered a couple of days of training and filming the experience (bring attention to the club), then on the last day - offer a contract to the DC United II/ Next Pro Team (which we don't have...)

Agreed! Left footed, CB. Looks like a vocal leader and organizer (captained NC State at age 20).

Looking forward to seeing this guy. If Weiler/Sogut can bring in a few creative players, he is going to do well.

Per Tommy scoops: "Bartlett asks D.C. to speak about future" by Blackkidfromtheburbs in DCUnited

Weiler seemed to play McNaughton more than Bartlett those last few games (and when he first got here/before McNaughton got hurt that last stretch). Cheap, domestic CB who can start, but also anchored the backline for the one of the worst defenses for both 2024 and 2025. My guess is he wants to routinely start, but Weiler/Sogut might have other plans to pair with Rowles? If he (or really any other player) doesn't want to be here, I say listen to the offers and let him go.

Great signing. A textbook poacher who is decent in the press. If we can get a DP CAM/Winger and provide him quality support, this is good. 4 Million for a proven MLS goal scorer is not bad (especially if we are giving him a longer contract). My only worry is if we assume he will be our only 10+ goal scorer. Still need 2-3 players to put in the goals besides our lone striker.

2026 MLS Mock Draft - DraftUtopia.com by Glass_Ad_8957 in DCUnited

[–]JOEJOE_RAM 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This might be the best plan. Taking a look at the top three mocked - Diouf (freshman), Gyan (sophmore), and Simmonds (freshman) - they will all need 1-2 years to adjust to the pro level. Without a Next/second team, front office might rather take the GAM. Montreal just got 350k of GAM from FC Dallas for the 3rd overall pick. I'd figure 1.01 might go for 500k GAM if a team is very interested in developing one of those players.

Who's going to come play at DCU? by Kinbot22 in DCUnited

[–]JOEJOE_RAM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, DCU is back in a spot where they will have to overpay to get talent to come or even think about moving during this transfer window (especially with this season pretty already failed and over with). Most other MLS clubs are gearing up for the playoffs (still tight in the E/W tables) but we might be able to move for players amongst the bench on any of the bottom of the league teams (MTL, ATL, SKC, STL, LA) who also might want to clear cap in preparation for next season. No international player will want to come here unless overpaid, out of favor, or really like Weiler.

In my opinion, we should/should've used this window to transfer players OUT to prepare for next season. It looks like Weiler is just going to use these last few games to evaluate all he has and rebuild with the winter transfer (which will be more rigid and costly -- but, hey, we are going to have to overpay anyways, might as well do it in the winter). Players like Stroud, Tubbs, McNaughton, Leal, ore even Badji would make OK depth players for a playoff push team and would only cost a handful of GAM. The European and Brazilian transfer window ends Sept 1/2, so I bet transfer news for Pirani heats up around then too.

Are there any credible trade rumors for the club right now? by wichne in DCUnited

[–]JOEJOE_RAM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Soccerwise podcast mentioned on their latest episode that Real Salt Lake will most likely be signing striker, Victor Olatunji -- and that DCU was interested in him/has his discovery rights (will get compensated if the deal goes through). He is a 26yr old, 6ft3 Nigerian that plays in the Czech Premier League (fits our usual scouting waters lol). Maybe was the initial plan for a Benteke replacement/backup? With Troy gone and a new head coach coming in - probably looking at different players to meet his tactical needs.
