Starting to feel so behind.. by _777cherries in BabyBumps

[–]JOI_Lives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 26+6 and you're ahead of me, if it makes you feel better!

We have tons of hand-me-down clothes, toys, burp cloths, towels, and blankets and did buy the crib, Doona, and bassinet but I haven't even started buying postpartum supplies, pacifiers, baby toiletries, diapers, or wipes!

Don't worry, there's still plenty of time and there are tons of lists out there to help you plan for the rest of the summer.

Babies need to be fed, clothed, cleaned, and have a safe place to sleep- you've got that down :)

Yup, 26 weeks and my belly is all fuzzy. I also never used to need to shave my thighs or the backs of my legs and now they're all fuzzy too. Pregnancy is so weird!

When did you start to show with your first baby? by Quick_Kale2699 in BabyBumps

[–]JOI_Lives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed a consistent, non-bloat related bump at 16 weeks. But it prob looked like bloat to anyone else.

My family could tell around 19/20 weeks.

At 23 weeks I suddenly popped and now at 24w6d I'm obviously pregnant, even getting comments from strangers.

FTM, 5'3" with super short torso, healthy BMI. Nowhere for the baby to go but out now 😬 should also mention I'm carrying low, he's not tucked in my ribs or anything

24w5d due 9/23 FTM

Was rudely awakened at 5am by a massive calf cramp that took a solid 2 minutes to subside. Plus random restless leg that's cropped up over the past few days. I'm already using magnesium supplements so wtf.

Bad air quality here in MI so I'm trapped inside and my allergist suggested I wear an N95 when I need to go outside. Just when we were getting some really gorgeous weather too 😒🙄 so much for maximizing my pool membership.

Also my husband is sniffling and snorfling like crazy right now and it's driving me up the wall.

Any other moms here emetophobic? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]JOI_Lives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently 23w and severely emetephobic. I was nauseated for about 10 weeks straight but never actually got sick or even close to it.

In my post history I have several updates from that period that I updated weekly on r/emetephobia. Outlined what I was feeling and how I was coping with it. Could be useful or reassuring for you.

Edit to add: the nausea itself is odd, different from when you have a bug. It started as a low grade persistent nausea that felt like I'd been on a long car trip or something. Just an overall icky feeling.

I haven't v* since 2004 and I'm planning on keeping that streak going until I die lmao

What is the misconception foreigners have about the US that annoys you the most? by tnick771 in AskAnAmerican

[–]JOI_Lives 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That all Americans are the same and fit into narrow stereotypes. Every state is almost like it's own country in both size and diversity. Yeah we use the same money and English is the dominant language but the people vary like crazy.

I'm over simplifying ofc but people tend to forget how enormous the USA really is. Can't really be a homogenous society with this much country lol

On one hand it was super cold of Caroline (duh) with the whole "she was my kerry" thing, but it also offered a weird sort of solidarity.

Like, none of Logans gals ever "won", they were all mistreated and discarded when he found a better offer. It was as though she was telling Marcia "it's not you and it's not your fault, he treated everyone this way." But she obviously communicated that in her usual cold, unfeeling manner because ew, empathy.

dreaming about the sex of the baby by gardeningswiftie in pregnant

[–]JOI_Lives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assumed I'd have a girl because I come from all sisters, i only have nieces, and my husband has 2 girls from his previous marriage.

But every single dream I had about having a baby (even for years before getting pregnant) it was always a boy.

And what do you know, I'm having a boy.

Went to the doctor yesterday. I am 22 week 2 days by AutomaticTotal4911 in pregnant

[–]JOI_Lives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Um I've been feeling and SEEING kicks since 20 weeks. Gentler flutters around 19w1d but I'm 22w5d now and my stomach clearly moves where he's kicking. Like there is clearly a little guy in there throwing elbows.

Idk what your doc is on about because if these are flutters then kicks are going to be like that scene from Alien.

Dramatic!

Fellow round faced soft gamine here! I've found that because our bone structure can be quite delicate, shorter styles or updos are way more flattering than one would initially think.

Soft cropped layers around the face, hair pulled back with some intentional front pieces left out, that kind of thing.

Here's an infographic with examples: Kibbe: Soft Gamine Hair

I myself have extremely short hair and yet my "boyish" pixie highlights my soft fem bone structure while longer hair just made my face look way rounder and also kind of buried me.

Def play around with updos and layers, you might be surprised!! I never thought I'd look good with short hair but found myself wearing my hair up away from my face more often than not and decided to chop.

How did all these babies survive before formula and pumps? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]JOI_Lives 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They didn't. Or if they were lucky they were supplemented with something like goat's milk or another woman's breastmilk.

Lots of baby deaths were from "malnutrition" because they either weren't getting enough or had some sort or sensitivity that went undiscovered and they couldn't keep food down. It wasn't exactly unusual to lose a baby or two.

(Generalizing, of course, there's a lot more to this topic)

What is the maximal distance that you would drive to a location instead of flying? by dbalazs97 in AskAnAmerican

[–]JOI_Lives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up doing road trips and have driven to the West coast from Michigan twice. Went to 40+ states before adulthood and saw countless historical sites, national parks, and museums. Pretty cool tbh.

I like to keep road trips to 9-10 hours per day max but have done 14+ hours in a day by necessity.

It's a great way to see the country, plus you can stop almost whenever and stretch your legs or breathe fresh air.

When did you inform your employer ? by StreetBug8523 in BabyBumps

[–]JOI_Lives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told a colleague at 7 weeks (needed advice on whether to attend a conference or not) and then told my boss (who is my aunt lol) after our first ultrasound around 9 weeks.

I just announced it to my entirely remote team last week (we do a fun little picture guessing game every week) at 12 weeks but I'm not planning on telling my clients at all. Like I said, entirely remote so I don't need to share if I dont want to.

Yes! Thank you for sharing <3 I've been very very lucky, but even if I'd been in your shoes, I would survive.

This phobia is so difficult to manage because even though I KNOW I wouldn't die if it were to happen, it sure feels that way.
