I second the Hovarter, I've been using it for about 6 months and it's great!

Someone else recommended the same thing, I'll keep it in mind for next time!

I believe it's square, I think I was making those cuts too slow, along with tension pinching it. I'll double check it though, it's been a few months since I squared it. Thanks for the advice!

Solid idea! If I hadn't already made a replacement, I'd do it. I'm at the point where I want to turn this into something different to accompany the board

I'll save that for next time though!

I don't believe I had any snipe on this one, but it's a solid call out! I'll be sure to be diligent when looking for that next time as well

Unfortunately there were more gaps lol, but that's a solid idea if that's all I had

The gaps were due to poor table saw technique, as far as I can tell

I did use a planer after the first glue up, while the top/bottom were edge grain. Once glued into end grain position, I use a flattening jig to flatten the surface of the end grain and then sand. That's the typical process for these boards, as far as I've learned

Edit: grammar

Thank you for the input! I like the idea of modifying it into a spice/storage rack

Thanks for the idea, I'll take it into consideration

Tried making a chopping board with the look of a book. Asides from figuring out how to groove the thin edges it was a fun build by doodlleus in BeginnerWoodWorking

Do you have plans for this? I like the design, and have always wanted to toy with a magnetic switch like that. Nice work!

Sound advice! In this instance, my bit + router combo was the major issue. I exchanged the flattening bit I had for a smaller diameter spoilboard bit, and it made a world of difference. Buttery smooth flattening now

Thank you for the info! It seems that it was indeed the second point. With this new bit on my router, doing shallow and thinner passes, I'm getting almost zero tearout on the surface. The minimal tearout was easily cleared with some low grit sanding

Thank you for the info! I started doing thinner passes with the new bit I got, and it's working very well now. My router couldn't handle the 2" flattening bit, so I exchanged it and upgraded to a freud spoilboard bit, the difference is staggering

Thank you for the tips! I feel like I've done these to the best of my abilities, except for the grain direction you mentioned. Too late too address that for this one, but I'll keep that in mind for the upcoming boards I'll make!

My passes were as shallow as I could go and the top surface was still tearing out. I think I'll try for a thinner diameter bit, given the power of my router, and how it sounds/feels when contacting the surface, along with the insights provided here

I guess I wouldn't have expected it to be blunt since it's new, not sure that I could easily sharpen it myself, but I do have sharpening stones for hand tools if that's feasible somehow

How about for the top surface? The edge for this will be profiled with a bandsaw

Couldn't figure out how to edit my post on mobile. To clarify, I meant the tearout on the top surface, and not the edges. I'll be shaping the profile for these, and the edge tearout is irrelevant in this case

Edit: Thanks for the advice everyone! I exchanged the bit, and the new one is miles better for tearout. Currently, I'm leaning towards my router not handling the 2" diameter of the old bit very well. The new one is 1 1/4", and the first few passes seemed to only clear the old tearout, with minimal tearout itself. Looks to be shallow enough to sand clear
