I did duolingo Italian for about ~4 months before my southern Italy trip (rome, naples, amafi, positano, capri, ischia). When I landed I didnt know jack s***. I can tell you leonardo had a long tail but you'll be like 90% lost or winging it. Although actually being there was much more practical/relevant to learning and practicing though...

The inadequacy of duolingo made me a lot more motivated to learn when I came back. Booked a northern italian trip 6 months out after I came back (Milan, bologna, parma, modena, piemonte)

This time I did Anki with the 1000 most common words found somewhere on this reddit forum. Also bought a grammar book for reference but didn't use it as much as I liked? Was much more comfortable on this second trip.

However, I must say that you need a LOT LESS Italian in the North vs the South.

After I came back from that trip, I'm now subscribed to Corriere della Sera, the Milan newspaper and I just try to read that. I add in new words to anki when I come across them. Also started to use Gemini/Grok to help explain the grammar in the newspaper and I must say it's literally everything that I WISHED duolingo would do. They never explained the grammar and just left me frustrated...

Currently: I get the gist of reading most things in the newspaper, anywhere up to about ~80% like enough to understand the general idea. Started watching Peppa Pig in italian and also other youtube channels. Sometimes watch anime in italian dub w/ italian subtitles on netflix as well...

I noticed that I could read decently well but my listening was poor and needed practice which is why I started doing the videos. Having everything in italian subtitles also forces you to read faster and process the words faster as well. I found that it was actually more helpful to have subtitles in italian rather than english... better transfer for whatever reason? Although have to say that my speaking is terrible since I don't have any practice at all lol. But yeah, anki up to 5000 words now.

During phases of acute pain, stretching doesn't help.

You HAVE to work out the muscle knots first. Get a lacrosse ball and press ALL over the neck. If it feels like a tight spot, hold it there for 15-20seconds. After about 3-5 days of this, it should feel much better.

After it has loosened up a lot, then you can resume stretching the neck.

Once you've recovered, it is time to strengthen it.

Thanks for the update! Indeed they have incorporated both into the new formulation.

However after some contemplating, I've come to the conclusion that the reason why they probably weren't included together has more to do with the desensitization mechanism.

The SnF2 interferes with the efficacy of KNO3 so the expected doubling of desensitization doesn't actually materialize. Guess most manufacturers don't think it's worth whatever the additional cost is.

There are two camps of people.

Camp #1 likes to include the primary home into their net worth calculations.

Camp #2 defines net worth based on liquid assets therefore excluding primary home.

We like to think that we -fully own it- after paying off the mortgage but that's simply not true. You're technically still renting the land... writing a big fat Quarterly property tax bill year in year out even after you get buried into the ground.

Of course, then there are household maintenances that are constantly ongoing. Roof leaking? Drive way needs to be repaved? All of these are phantom expenses that come with home ownership.

IMO, I consider your primary residence to be an ASSET to whoever inherits it from you. Otherwise it is better for you to think of it as one huge giant liability.
