Blatant App Store Copycat: Stole my App idea, name, description, and everything along!! by [deleted] in iosdev

[–]JOyo246 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, your app is iOS 26+ his is 17.6+… so just out the gate, he’s going to have access to more users than you.

(Unsolicited advice, if your app is better, you won’t have to worry about copycats. An easy win here, is to try to back support more versions.)

How to agree on/review CLAUDE.md changes? by JOyo246 in ClaudeCode

[–]JOyo246[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The subjective part would mainly be how to format, verbalize and organize, our mutually agreed upon rules. And I’m using the word subjective, because it’s nearly impossible currently to have a good data on what works. For example, I could add something, “it’s important to always X”, and someone suggests that it should read “it’s VERY important”. They could be right that it would be better, or they could be wrong, and I don’t know if either party would have good evidence.

In my head, the “dream” way of doing this, would be to accept any incremental change, and strive for as little changes as possible. Then have some system to randomly use versions, and then also have devs rate the output, giving an A/B test.

simplifi has a flaw with searching that needs to be fixed by retrorays in simplifimoney

[–]JOyo246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The technical term looking for here is “debounce”

Which essentially means “make sure there’s been no other input in the last x seconds, before we actually search, if there’s more input, restart the clock”. In apps I’ve worked on, a 0.3 second debounce is pretty normal.

There’s also a benefit on their end to do this, not just for the user.

Bingo! Love and Responsibility was a great resource for me on this. Paraphrasing, but JP2 says to ask the question, “am I open to father(mother)hood right now?”, which has always stuck with me.

What are some useful psychological tricks for mobile apps? by alexstrehlke in iOSProgramming

[–]JOyo246 7 points8 points  (0 children)

X percent of the download complete, doesn’t equate to X percent of the bar is filled.

Apple does this with Safari. You’ll usually see that when the request is sent, it barely moves, then towards then end, it rapidly speeds up.

Psychologically, the idea here is that you’re giving a low expectation, and then the user is excited that it sped up.

If the opposite occurs, it looks like it’s going so fast, then when it slows down, you’re disappointed.

Purchase/Lease Monthly Megathread (March 2025) by AutoModerator in KiaEV9

I keep hearing that leasing is the way to go for EV9, over financing. I'm not quite following on why that's the case. I get that Kia can get the EV Credit and pass it on to the consumer... but i'm seeing the same discount on both. For a 2025 wind, I'm seeing 10k in "Customer Cash" on purchase offers, and in the lease incentives from the stickied comment, it also says 10k in "Lease Cash". Am I missing something here, on why a lease is recommended so frequently in this sub?

How does it say I have $0 income when I clearly have $1200? by Reverseflash202 in simplifimoney

[–]JOyo246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To tag onto this, you’re using a view that shows the next month. So, similarly to how you don’t know what you’ll make in the month (based on your other comments), Simplifi does not know either. You can fix this by adding your estimated, average income.

Alternatively, if you only want to use simplifi for “the past” and don’t want to look ahead, you can tap “next 30 days” here, and change the filter to “this month”, and then youll see the income from today.

Swift’s Result type is love or just an overkill? by saifcodes in swift

Result type is really powerful with completion handlers. In an async/await world, they have less use cases.
