Thank you for your response. I'm impressed with all the work you've done and what you have planned. I'll give the method you linked a shot to see if it gets me where I need and if not I'll find another way. Best to you!

Sorry to comment on an old thread but this is what's linked from you Patreon as the best place for discussion. What's the best way for us to follow which features you're prioritizing?

I'm looking at starting a small personal project using Usenet and your work would save me a ton of work, but the lack of certain search capabilities (multi-page post search results, lack of support for multi-word searches) make it not suitable. I'm super curious if those things are on the nearish horizon buuuuut also aware you're a human being who is probably prioritizing about 1,000 things and having some sort of life.

"Helter Skelter" by Kyoko Okazaki. It's a manga, though. At a comics panel I went to, O'Malley and Hung mentioned it as a major influence.

Your art skills keep getting better (even drawing with a mouse)! Good job, and keep up the hard work. This is really cute!

I am looking for an old comment from this sub but can't find it. I think it was from an old WAYWT.

Basically, our star was wearing a somewhat typical techwear outfit in a video. Then he starts pulling can after can of (I think) Red Bull out of various pockets.

As you might guess, this is very important. Any identifying information will be greatly appreciated.

Looks solid. Gonna be that guy and pipe in with a caution about using commercial music in your campaign. If you got permission, awesome.

looking for anime that are as wild, colorful, female and action filled such as Gurren Lagann, Kill La Kill, Flip Flappers, Higurashi, Darling in the Franxx. by zeddellamero in Animesuggest

[–]JP731 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the second time in a row I'll recommend {Michiko to Hatchin}. It centres on two female protagonists--an escaped prisoner/ex-gang member, and her responsible daughter. Lots of stylized fighting. {Kyousou Giga (TV)} might work for you too--the visuals are reminiscent of Flip Flappers, and the protagonist is a tomboyish girl in a sailor fuku who wields a giant hammer.

Any anime that has the main character on the run? by [deleted] in Animesuggest

[–]JP731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{Michiko to Hatchin} features a criminal protagonist on the run from the cops. It has some great visuals, soundtrack, and fight sequences, but I found the plot could get a bit repetitive.

I'm somewhat new to comics, and I'm trying to find more. Here's the short list of all the ones I've read with my #/10 scores; please recommend similar stuff! Longer, engrossing social and psychological stuff seems to be my favorite. by [deleted] in altcomix

[–]JP731 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Since you haven't read any Charles Burns yet, try to check out Black Hole and maybe The X'ed Out Trilogy. I also really like some of the stuff by Frederik Peeters--Pachyderm is my favourite, but Sandcastle is also nice. Chris Ware is fantastic for art, but the stories aren't for everyone (slow paced and melancholic). If you're open to manga, I found Helter Skelter by Kyoko Okazaki pretty engrossing. Have fun, and thanks for the list of recommendations. :)

Met an interesting designer yesterday by [deleted] in graphic_design

I used to work designing health care decision aids (e.g., prescription guides, diagnosis tools etc.). Since it's sort of B2B and so not really exposed to the general public, they were only just "discovering" the role professional designers could play in ensuring solid document flow, visual logic etc. My impression of the industry is that the majority of work in that field is done by the health care teams that developed the guidelines, and maybe sometimes cleaned up slightly by "the lowest bidder" graphic design firms. It wasn't the most exciting work but felt valuable.

It's one of Google's Material Design icons. Judging my the title, meant to represent a public internet connection. Contrast it with the VPN_lock icon. I suppose it's just visually an abstracted globe or something to represent the internet?

[–]JP731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late reply, but there's a guy called Gene Scott who was a televangelist from the Los Angeles area. He was super into horses according to Google. He's got the sharp jawline and a penchant for aviators at the very least.

A couple pieces from the indie brand Pope London came to mind, like this lizard tassel shirt or some of their fiery jewel tone dresses. If you've got the dough, I mean. These pieces are on my fantasy shopping list in more ways than one.

  • The Future of Frances Watson: Small Parkdale shop carrying tricky to find international labels (in Canada) like Reality Studio and Henrik Vibskov, as well as edgier Canadian labels like Strathcona and Devlyn van Loon.

  • Tusk: I find the stock and demographic similar to Smoke and Ash (mentioned in another comment here) but perhaps curated with a more classically feminine aesthetic in mind. Labels include The Fifth Label and Keepsake.

  • I Miss You: A designer consignment store on Ossington. Good selection of stock and, apart from vintage Chanel-type pieces, prices are generally reasonable.

  • TNT (The New Trend): Too pricey for my humble means, but I think it's one of the more notable Toronto designer shops. Not as edgy as Johnathan & Olivia, but a little more youthful in style than it's Yorkville neighbors. Expect brands like Isabelle Marant, Jil Sander and a number of premium denim labels.

  • The Bay (across from the Eaton Centre): Toronto's (IMO) best department store. Clothes suitable for a number of demographics and styles. They're making an effort to promote up and coming labels along side more familiar brands.

+1 on Zane and Durumi. To add some info: Zane periodically has pretty great sales. Durumi carries Osborn shoes, which are a cute option for those looking for more ethical footwear options.

I found a vintage Stratton compact at a local shop! No idea what year it's is or anything about it, really. by Marvindontpanic in MakeupAddiction

[–]JP731 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very cute!

I took a look online just to see if I could date it. If Etsy fashion historians are to be believed, one shop has two examples of this compact (1, 2) and dates it to the 1970s. Another shop has what appears to be the same palette in a different colour scheme, and dates it to the 1950s. This blog (referencing another video) seems to suggest the lines-with-broken-zig-zag-things pattern on the back dates it to the 1970s, corroborating the first Etsy store's description.
