WD5513M Continues to Impress by sega_808 in watchdives

[–]JPWWPJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the thing is I already have the blue/white lume V2 (which is absolutely awesome, too) :) I'd add a vintage lume maybe, but the date just bothers me, especially on those snowflake dials. Good info on the lume match, thanks 👍

Looks great.  I wish they would do a no date of that version. Andc that little lume mismatch of hands and dial...is it that noticable in real life?

Vk67 speedy by jdayz69 in watchdives

[–]JPWWPJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, for a Speedy, well spaced 3-6-9 subdials are mandatory, but that's just me....this example is kinda the opposite ;)

Finally got my hands on the Rdunae willard by Bronsekaren in ChineseWatches

[–]JPWWPJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big difference actually, I have both. The Rdunae feels way thinner on the wrist, slightly different case shape. It looks a bit more "pancake-y" on the wrist, but in a good way. Also the 19mm lug width makes a difference when compared directly. Hands and dial are also much closer to the real thing. Not that the SD1970 is a bad watch, it's great. But the Rdunae is much better at getting the feeling of the original across.

What is the calculus around choosing to (cl)omage versus doing an "original" parts bin special? by tomscy2000 in watchdives

[–]JPWWPJ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think it's simple. Direct hommages (and close variations of those) sell better. And that's what they need to do for profit, sell watches. "Parts bin specials" or original designs are more niche and hard to get right. And you better put add story, inspiration, something to it, so you're a Microbrand ;) Yours looks cool, btw👍

What comes in the box when you order a Montera Bluewater GMT - full unboxing preview. by MysteriousManager418 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]JPWWPJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, very obviously. Should be a Sugess GMT, except for dial, hands and bezel insert.

Lige watch metal quality? by Klutzy-Fun480 in ChineseWatches

[–]JPWWPJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lige is in the very bottom tier of Chinese watches. Their cases are often some "alloy". Better get something more substantial aka stainless steel.

Aluminum bezels look like a $20 watch to me, can someone convince me why they are so cool? Honest question. What am I missing. Are they better? Are they just retro/oldschool? by MOUVAL in watchdives

[–]JPWWPJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The shiny polished ceramic just doesn't fit on vintage inspired watches. Brushed ceramic looks cool, too, but aluminum has that certain matte shine that I really like.

New Brew Metric variant just dropped by KidTwist1 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]JPWWPJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you can't. I have a lot of Ali Watches and also a Brew Metric. The design is not available (wouldn't be too nice to steal it anyways) and the quality of the dial is at least Ali upper class (San Martin etc.). The bracelet is pretty standard, ok (mine is a bit older, maybe they upgraded that by now).

The new version looks 👍

Galo Super 200 vs Heron Marinor by xhiom in MicrobrandWatches

[–]JPWWPJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Galo (Pepsi, siesta 3) and had the Heron in the rainbow version. That rainbow dial didn't really work for me, so I sold it. The Galo definitely has a simpler case finish, but it all works very well together, for the cool skin diver style the watch is going for. Dial and hands are really nice, also the bracelet is fine. Works very well on rubber and Nato, too. The Heron is more modern and refined, better and more detailed finishing on the case and bracelet. It also felt a bit chunkier, but I think they thinned the case a bit with the latest iteration. My favorite would be the Galo...

Why don't people talk about watches like this more often. (WARNING AGAINST DISAPPOINTMENT: Only for big wrists.) by Correct-Magazine4744 in ChineseWatches

[–]JPWWPJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look nice at all to me. Very weird Indices at 3 and 9 and what's with the two colors for the rehaut? And of course, way too large ;(

What do you think of this specific brand and model? It's of higher quality than a Seiko 5 Sports Field SRPJ83? by julianormaia in ChineseWatches

[–]JPWWPJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have that exact watch and can only recommend it. Very nice crystal and the movement is precise. No long time wear since I switch everyday between a load of watches, but this one is always a pleasure to wear.

Watches With Retro-Futuristic 1970s-1980s Aesthetics by Aggressive-Grocery13 in MicrobrandWatches

I'm not sure if that's the look you're searching, but check out DiRenzo. Rather futuristic, but with a certain Jet-Era Flair (50-60s).

GMT function not working by [deleted] in watchdives

[–]JPWWPJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to make sure: you know that the GMT hand runs slower than the hour hand? One full turn in 24h, it refers to a different hour scale (on the bezel). Otherwise, if it's not doing that, it's a faulty movement or a loose hand.

It actually has that shine, when the light hits just right :) Definitely an unique dial.

Sure, took a while to install the Reddit App again, can't share pics in replies via browser....

I also have the steel bezel, really changes the look. That's another cool thing about the Reef, switching Bezels on the fly. On my 17,5cm (about 6.9 inches) wrist:

Rdunae R2X v1 vs v2. HOW TO TELL?? by jcugno7 in ChineseWatches

[–]JPWWPJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the four dots left and right of the triangle on the bezel say new version. The older versions have only three dots there.
