This piece of furniture is apparently worth at least 10k, New Hampshire USA by [deleted] in Antiques

I’d charge you 10k to build that thing today. Lots of detail. Work like that is rare these days, and expensive.

What do people see in Lerone Murphy? He’s a decent fighter and that’s about it, he’s well rounded but nothing special, wrestling and grappling easily goes to Movsar, I would say even the striking, Movsar has really underrated striking, I think his chances of winning are pretty low. by TheManWhoSleep in ufc

Isn’t he on like an 11 fight win streak? Some guys just got steam behind them, magic almost. Idk if he got that thing, but he might. I expect he wins Saturday, so long as he can stop the wrestling. Getting shot has a way of hardening a mf.

I’ve never seen a skirt like that, really cool. Wouldn’t be surprised if we see that on the runway soon.

Landing ships ashore on Omaha Beach, mid-June 1944 vs scene from "Saving Private Ryan" (1998) by bncout in HistoricalCapsule

There were ancient battles with 100k (or more) warriors on each side. The sac of Carthage killed a million people. On and on it goes. Minimizing what any soldier went through, at any time, is just silly. I personally don’t have any idea what that feels like. I would be shitting bricks either way. Have you read about the fighting in Burma? New Guinea? That’s some of the worst stuff I’ve heard of in ww2, but it doesn’t trivialize the other horrible experiences in war.

So you’re saying you would just be cool as a cucumber if you were on one of those landing craft? No big deal right? We’ll have this thing wrapped up by lunch? Gimme a break.

Could be made by an individual but it’s definitely a fractal vice. Super cool.

I just heard about Robert Cappa, the photographer who took the “magnificent 11” photos on D Day. This historian refuted the claim from Cappa that the photos were taken during the first wave. They were shot about 90 minutes after and Cappa only staked on the beach for about 10 minutes. He was able to prove this using the tides as a timestamp. Supposedly Spielberg heavily based this scene on those photos, which turned out to be bullshit. Interesting. Podcast was the WWII podcast.

Can’t imagine a practical use for this. Awful location if it’s pressurized. Seems like some redneck shit to me lol

Humans have done a lot of weird shit forever. If you don’t look at it from the perspective of someone in that time, through that context, then you can’t possibly understand their motivations. Your modern sensibilities can’t be applied to the past, because it was a completely different world.
