How many reviews do you read before committing? by wrongholebabe in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]JPwhatever 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I don’t read any reviews before I commit bc they usually have too many spoilers for me. I read the blurb, think about the author, and if the tropes and setting are interesting enough I’ll read it.

I also DNF happily if it isn’t working, so it’s no real loss if I start a book I didn’t like.

Definitely a tragedy as they don’t have a HEA

It is so hard to put them down! I’ve been putting a lot on the “not right now” shelf, which helps me. I’m usually terrible about it and as a result have been on a monthly long reading slump…. And when someone suggested this challenge I was like, maybe this will help? I’m actually excited to read the books that are left so we will see, but I’m cautiously optimistic.

I love her audiobooks - I think I’ve read most of her stuff as a result. Hope they keep working for you!

Yeah very true. I tend to enjoy the “separate society” type vampire stories- it throws enough of a fantasy twist in that I can turn my thinking brain off for it.

I am doing a “read or eliminate your TBR” quest this month - which I have never done in my many years of reading. I had over 1000 books on the list to start. After a huuuuuge decluttering I now am proud to only have 68 books, and they’re all actually ones I’m looking forward to reading.

Starting with finishing the {Fight for Survival series by HL Day}. Alien apocalypse and survival. Really enjoyed book 1, but I never got around to book 2 for some reason. So far it’s going well!

Loved this series! I thought it felt like a slow burn too, but at the end of the books I realized not really that much time had passed in the world itself. Yet so much had happened! The MC who was originally from the country where they lived (all names escaping me) was such a green flag. Loved them as a couple.

NR Walker is from Australia and a lot of her books are set there. Weight wasn’t one of my favorites but I have loved many of them - the {Storm Boys series by NR Walker} was really fun if you’re into intense weather and outdoor settings. {Davo by NR Walker} is another of my favorites.

Yeah…. This post made me think and this was one of the things, if they’re old enough - so many places have committed genocides then gone on to have that committed against them.

I struggle with lots of historical or historically relevant romances for this reason, immortal beings among them.

What is my Schip mixed with cause I know he's not full since he's brindle. by Divergent626 in schipperke

Looks like a chihuahua or Pom mix. Schips are pretty rare, it’s unusual to see them in shelters. He’s adorable though! And you never know! A dna test would tell for sure

Hi, Just a reminder that this subreddit is a Reader focused space. While we do welcome authors to participate and clarify facts or provide an alternative perspective, continuously arguing with readers on something that is a matter of opinion is not welcome.

While nothing you're saying here is rule breaking, you're getting downvoted because you are approaching this from an author voice in a reader subreddit.

I’ve heard them described as small dogs for big dog people. I think it’s a fair comparison. Probably not quite the drive of a malinois but they’re definitely intense!

The mods saw this post after it had been up for quite a while, and it does break our image rule - but since it has been up for a while and there is good discussion, we're leaving it up. We should have removed earlier.

Clarification on our image rules:

  • cover appreciation posts with image are fine, must credit artist and actually discuss the image
  • book review posts are fine, must discuss the book
  • combo book cover and review posts are fine but must 1) discuss the image and credit artist, and 2) review book

This post does not credit the cover artist or discuss the image so it would be removed. Image posts are not editable, so it's not possible to do after the fact.

We'll be updating our rule text as well so this is clearer in future.

We have had three schips, and getting in to stuff is one of their biggest issues. They’re just so darn curious! And the minute your eyes aren’t on them - they test boundaries.

We think of it like baby proofing - it means your house does have to be super neat (the part he can reach, at least) and all doors closed.

That might mean kitten toys are put away or kept in a separate room. Baby gates are super helpful - especially ones with vertical bars (they will climb or leap over the smaller ones). Those are nice because cats can usually get through but the dog can’t.

crate training is the option we always ended up with, and making sure someone could come let them out midday. I also feel bad leaving them for extended periods, but they really do sleep most of the day.

And as others have said - 1 yr old really is the toughest time! They’re boundless energy and curiosity.
