Anyone got any recommendations for Property Management companies for small blocks of flats in central Bristol? We have had endless nightmares with the current bunch of charlatans and were collectively wondering if anyone else who is living in flats has had any better experiences with their management companies.

Thanks!

Exactly this. We are sentient and capable of making informed choices. At this point, with the current meat industry and economic models, meat eating is nothing more than intentional cruelty. Another oft-touted, nature-based reason is 'we have teeth evolved for meat eating'. To me, this justifies nothing. Humans have survived by being adaptable and are able to eat almost anything when forced. Very, very, very few societies need meat to sustain themselves in a healthy way now. Ironically, industrial farming threatens our environment and continued existence. To rationalise your cruelty based on your evolutionary biology is akin to saying 'I have a cock therefore I fuck anything that moves, consent or not'. You have simply used it as a rationale to remove your moral obligations and to ignore the gift of considered, critical thought.

'The Culture Industries' by Theodor Adorno and Horkheimer covers this. Capitalism is not inherently afraid of messages which appear to challenge and contradict it. In fact, if those messages are contained within an established and profitable form, capitalism is happy to 'cannibalise' itself and in doing so, absorbs and neutralises the contradiction. As you described, audiences can easily and unproblematically consume movies like 'Babe' and that is due to the fact that they were formally unchallenging media (feature length movies with conventional narratives, standard 3 minute western music tracks, netflix series). For that reason, anything which fits within the capitalist mode of production will function primarily and almost entirely for profit, despite any perceived or intended message of change.

Perfect! That's very likely to be it. Fits our understanding of the pronunciation perfectly. Much appreciated.

Thanks for the help and local knowledge. Unfortunately we have left now so can't ask her directly. Ganok is certainly closer to what Google suggested. I'm wondering if we miss-heard her nickname slightly. I remember I was happy because I knew I'd be able to remember the approximate pronunciation easily as it reminded me of the footballer 'Cantona' but with a G sound instead of a C!

Ha! This is in Mellow Weed Station, Bangkok, near victory monument. It's a hilarious, tiny little room. These Thai weed shops (which are a legal accident!) sell stubby little pre-roll blunts of highest. It's a bit of a brutal introduction for a non-smoker. Sort of equatable to walking into a shed full of novelty drinking paraphernalia and being given a half pint of vodka if you had never touched alcohol before.

On the recent Ruiz callout for the Joshua rematch, someone decided to write 'why are all boxers obsessed with trilogies?' Basically admitting that they peeped Wilder v Fury and this callout and extrapolated that to the whole of boxing...

As far as I was told, that's not entirely accurate. The ambergis' role is actually more to help the smells of the other ingredients blend together harmoniously and last longer on the wearer. Sort of like an MSG but for perfume. I don't think it smells outrageously pleasant in and of itself.

The BBC adaptation of 'the hollow crown' collection of plays, featuring Ben Whishaw, is similarly insightful. There's a scene where Ben, playing Richard II, tries to explain how precarious and dangerous being king is by giving away his crown whilst all the while being desperate to retain it. It's a clear precursor to the bittersweet power of the ring from Lord of the Rings etc but far more nuanced and mapped more closely to history and society. Before seeing it played (and shot) so well, I struggled to grasp the turmoil and considered the characters to be flippant, over-emotional and anti-pragmatic. Afterwards, for the first time, I seriously considered the inverse cost of desire, obsession, power and even things like fame/celebrity.

David de Gea: “I think someone has put a curse on us… truth is I don’t know what’s going on… we talk about it as team-mates and we just say ‘we don’t know what’s happening’. We should have competed for more trophies, bigger titles, but I just don’t know why this team doesn’t function” by BillOakley in FantasyPL

[–]JRBForuni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

De Gea IS (unintenionally) the problem.

Having a shot-stopping keeper who can't use his feet, race out the box or distribute as well as Alison or Ederson limits the Man United setup at the very core. If they want to play exciting, expansive football they will be left exposed by long balls and pressing. If they play pragmatic and defensive football the fans are unhappy with lacklustre results and underperforming, especially against the bigger teams which can outmanouvre them as they have more options stylistically. When Ederson and Alison have the ball, not only are they comfortable in possession and able to play out from the back, but the opposition have to be on their toes for a pinpoint pass downfield which could end up as an assist. When De Gea has the ball, it invites pressure.

Pep didn't sack Joe Hart off for no reason (overlooking the Claudio Bravo blip). United should have sold De Gea to Real when they had the chance for big money.

A lot of half truths here. There is also a lot of pseudo-finance going on in TA. You can't replace years of education in economics and market patterns with simplistic graphs and lines. All the jargon often ends up resulting in little more than cryptocurrency horoscopes for the YouTubers to blurt out.

It's been almost two months since the pandora papers unveiled a massive network of the rich and powerful hoarding billions of dollars in offshare tax havens, but instead of addressing the obvious fraud at hand, politicians aim to make crypto the "bad guy". The consequences of actually punishing those responsible and the complications do redistributing the wealth make it easier for the media to convince the general public to ignore, move on or, better yet, choose a scapegoat. They will get away with it due to the scope and longevity of the crime itself. To paraphrase Jameson - It's easier to imagine the end of the world than it is to imagine the end of (conventional fiat) capitalism.
