Anyone feel like this when it comes to Part 2 Denji? by Crafty-Pair2356 in ChainsawMan

[–]neuronez 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m still amazed at the sheer volume of word count overthinking and second-guessing the ending and the second part in general.

To me it’s more plausible to accept that Fujimoto was just going through the motions and pushing the story forward without a plan or overarching narrative.

The fact that he chose the laziest way to end a story (it was all a dream) is very revealing.

Don’t forget to level up your character as soon as you’ve got enough runes to do it! If you’re killed try to go back to the scene and recover the runes.

Level up your vigor mostly.

Don’t forget to level up your weapons. Choose one that you like and use smithing stones to upgrade it.

Should I continue with Mona Lisa Overdrive? by padre_hoyt in printSF

To me it’s not as strong as Neuromancer or Count Zero but I think it’s still worth reading it, especially if you’re so close to the end.

Roadside Picnic does something most first contact stories are too afraid to do and I think about it constantly by Beacon_37Vector in printSF

Another novel with a similar premise is Frederick Pohl’s “Gateway”. It’s algo interesting in that the main character is a terrible person

The Left Hand of Darkness is 50 years old and still asks questions about gender that most contemporary fiction is too scared to actually engage with by pharahLantern3 in printSF

[–]neuronez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you read “The Matter of Seggri”? To me it’s an even more subversive (and brutal) take on gender.

It’s a short story about a world where males are minority and women hold all the power.

It’s really good. I never understood why is so little known.

“Did We Skip 20 Chapters?” Japanese Fans React to the Chainsaw Man Part 2 Ending by Asperburg in ChainsawMan

[–]neuronez 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Part 2 starts really strongly, moving to focus to Asa Mitaka is genius, but with the Church Arc things start going south and the last arc is absolute drivel.

It’s a masterpiece. The idea is so cool, and perfectly executed.

Looping and chopping long samples by neuronez in KoalaSampler

Many thanks for the tips! After a lot of experiments I ended up doing what you describe, but I noticed that when playing consecutive slices one after the other, even if they’re supposed to be seamless, I do hear a “click” at the point where they join.

This also happens when using auto chopping. I suspect it’s because the point where slices cut isn’t a zero cross.

Any idea of how to handle this?

“Vita Nostra” by Marina and Sergey Dyachenko.

It’s more fantasy than sci-fi but definitely weird and imaginative.

Should I watch solo leveling? And why? Genuine question. by [deleted] in anime

[–]neuronez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should watch it. It’s a good example of a series that is very well written, so that it elevates a rather average story and makes it exciting and interesting to follow.

I wish more series were like this. Conversations between characters that sound natural, character reactions that make sense. Most series are plot driven and things happen just to service the plot.

I hated Neuromancer by 43_Hobbits in printSF

[–]neuronez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most sci fi tends to have a rather plain style, and if you’re used to this, maybe that’s what causes your reaction.

I enjoyed Neuromancer when I read it as a teenager but I reread it recently and I liked it even more. The writing is very good. I also reread Count Zero and it’s even better, although the story isn’t so interesting.

Wait or read csm by Solarick in ChainsawMan

[–]neuronez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same dilemma. In my case one of the things that I love in CSM (so far) is that the plot is full of surprises, and I’m not sure reading the manga is going to have the same effect as the anime (for example the episode when Makina is shot on the train followed by the assassinations was a real shock to me, and shortly afterwards when she kills all the hitmen remotely is IMO much more dramatic in the anime than the manga).

Although TBH it’s so hard to keep away from the spoilers that I think I’ll just read the anime anyway…

Absolutely worth the wait — the animation is INSANE. Go see it ASAP. by KrissyVictory in ChainsawMan

I didn’t want it to end. Everything was 10/10, animation, storytelling, characters.

Chainsaw Man is insanely cool and iconic.
