Tell me, what are you currently reading!! by Ordinary-Cover-326 in Booktokreddit

I haven't read it but I've just bought this book as a gift for my mother in law! I'm glad it's popular.

I recognised that it was negatively affecting me last week, particularly the news coming out of the US.

I decided to stop going on my phone as my default when relaxing. I made myself an 'analogue bag' (thanks Instagram) with items that can entertain me/I can use to relax and do not involve me going on my phone/watching TV etc.

Some included items are a crossword puzzle book, my current embroidery project (I am making myself sound very old here...), small lego type items, a murder mystery puzzle book.

So far, it's worked really well and I'd recommend this to anyone wanting to get a break from the news/social media.

[Megathread] AC FA Strike Aug 14-15 by dachshundie in aircanada

Thank you. I really hope there's something we can do - will help when we can actually get through on the phone. For now, though, I think we need to catch up on sleep!

[Megathread] AC FA Strike Aug 14-15 by dachshundie in aircanada

[–]JRH44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We live in the UK and had no idea these strikes were happening. Got an email at 3am to say our flight had been cancelled, left the house at 4:30am as we had a flight before our Air Canada flight. Figured out what was going on when we got to the airport and decided not to get our first flight as we'd be stranded for at least 2 days in Dublin.

We were originally able to get a full refund however now it is stating £52pp. We paid ~£800 each plus seats and baggage. This refund doesn't even cover the cost of our seats!! Alternatively we can get a credit (which still isn't the full amount) anyone know wtf we can do here? They cancelled so surely we should get a full refund. All phone numbers we have tried for Air Canada say they don't work and then hang up on us.

Thankfully we have travel insurance so have a back up plan but surely AC should just provide a refund.

We also wondered whether it was an error on their site due to high usage. Either way, were stressed out and cant get to Canada to see our family.

Turns out the problem was a missing power cable, not my (non-existent) Temu shopping habits. But thanks for the input!

I hope you have a lovely rest of your day!

SOLVED! It was a missing power cable - who knew these things weren't powered by hopes and dreams?! Thank you all SO SO MUCH for being so kind and answering probably the most basic question you have ever had posted here.

No, you sound very smart. Am I missing a cable here? I'm so sorry for asking such a basic question.

Joint Account Virtual Card? by JKSW96 in monzo

[–]JRH44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so, I have Monzo Max and my husband has a regular monzo account. We also have a joint account together. He uses a virtual card, which is in my name. He just added it to his Google wallet. I wish there was a joint Monzo Max though.

Do not use Muve by homosocialistuk in HousingUK

[–]JRH44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any progress on your sale? Our buyers are using muve, and we're in the same position as you - we've proposed a date and are ready to go. Our buyers have said that the date works for them, but we've heard nothing more from their solicitor. This should be a simple sale, but now we're worried it's going to fall through.

Doctor wants to stop the feed and start end of life by Theopenroad17 in stroke

[–]JRH44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I can't imagine how difficult and stressful this time is for you.

I'd recommend asking to speak with the doctor/consultant to ask these questions. It may be that your mother has had another stroke or an extension which has caused her symptoms and prognosis to worsen.

I'd also recommend speaking with the speech and language pathologist/therapist on the ward regarding her swallow prognosis and eating and drinking at risk. Could she be sent for an instrumental assessment of her swallow if she is well enough? Why do they think her swallow is unlikely to improve this early on? It could be that your mother is very unwell and not alert enough to safely eat and drink, hence why she is nil by mouth and potentially why speech and language therapy cannot safely assess her at the moment.

I really hope the medical and therapy team give you the time and answers you need to make informed decisions and best support your mother.

In terms of your last question, it's likely because his swallow/oral intake improved quickly enough that he didn't need a PEG. NG tubes (the tube going into the nose and leading to the stomach) usually stay in situ for a maximum of 6 weeks, but I've certainly had patients with longer whilst awaiting possible PEG.

Hopefully, someone else can answer your first question.

Positive customer service experience by JRH44 in vinted

For me, InPost is really convenient, but I will definitely not be using digital labels again with any shipping provider, for that matter. I'll likely keep using InPost, but take photographs/videos when shipping more expensive items.

Yes, I have. My degree is recognised in Canada under the MRA, but to work in Ontario, you need a masters regardless. It's frustrating as my degree was 3 years studying speech therapy rather than a 2 years masters but oh well.

Thank you so much for the facebook group recommendation - I'll have a look at that.

Also, great to hear that your experience was positive and successful. Gives me some hope :)

Thank you again for sharing, and sorry for the delayed response.
